The Total Pumpkin Patch Experience 10/6/2006

Lakeview Farms in North Plains Oregon is a wonderful place to pick up a pumpkin, gourd or other Fall craft or home décor for sprucing up your house for entertaining. However, if it’s just pumpkins you want, your best bet is going to be Winco. But if you are looking for the total pumpkin patch experience, Lakeview Farms is definitely the place for you. If you have guests visiting from out of town, especially if they have kids, this place will be a total hit. Lakeview Farms is pretty big, and they have a small train to take you out to the pumpkins. The train runs every 5 minutes or so and is a very fun way to get out to the fields. While on the train you go through a “spooky” tunnel and otherwise get to enjoy the beauty of the Fall landscape. There are tons of pumpkins in all shapes and sizes. They even have a good selection of those pretty white pumpkins. When you are done selecting your pumpkin, you get to take a small barge back across the lake to the entrance. There are several fun surprises as you ride the boat. There are dummies dressed up as pirates and even a shark that comes right out of the water, bares its teeth and blows a gust of air as the boat goes by. I have to admit, why my son was about 4 years old, this totally freaked him out, but now it’s one of his favorite parts of his visit to Lakeview Farms. There is a small craft shop where you pay for your pumpkin. Prices are around $4 for a small pumpkin, $6 for a medium and $8 for a large. When you arrive at the Farm, you do have to pay for tickets for the train and boat, but that money taken off the pumpkin you buy. There are even a few farm animals like bunnies, chickens and some years, cows and pigs, for your little ones to look at. Each year lots of schools have field trips to Lakeview Farms and it seems that it’s always pretty busy. The weekend will have less school groups, but certainly more families. However, even with a lot of people, things run smoothly and the wide open spaces make things seem less crowded. more
