We went with an Italian friend who had had a nice meal here before but unfortunately this was not the experience for the 5 of us when we returned with her. While the support staff...

Top neighborhood eatery 12/10/2004

One of the great neighborhood restaurants in L.A. Food's great (try the Ossobuco if you're into meat); amazingly, the pasta is always perfect. Full bar and a wine list full of surprises. Staff is attentive and sociable. Prices are reasonable. Parking is always tough on Main Street, but try the free private lot on the corner of Hill Street before you start cruising for a meter. Pros: Superb food, Attentive service, Great wine list more

One of my neighborhood favorites! 1/25/2004

La Vecchia is a trendy, upscale, see and be seen kind of place, minus the pretentious staff and insane prices. It's in a great area of Santa Monica (Main Street) where you can have dinner and then bar/club hop within walking distance. The food is very good, but my favorite thing about it is the welcoming atmosphere, which leaves something to be desired when dining in L.A. Most patrons dress in business casual to dressy, but if someone in your party is in jeans, no one will bat an eyelash. The only downsides to this restaurant are: the tables are close together (request one of the few, separated front window tables in advance if you have confidential information to discuss); and there is no valet or lot parking. However, you'll find metered lots if you circle around the block to Neilson Way. Street parking is free and unlimited after 10:00pm. Pros: Welcoming Atmosphere, Decent Prices, Fashionable Crowd Cons: Street Parking Only more

Good Stuff! (easy on the salt please!) 9/25/2002

Liking this place! The fresh bread and garlicky olive oil dip is very good. The service is also good here. However, on our last two visits, the pasta entrees have been too SALTY which is bumming me out becuase I like this restaruant! Ask them to make your pasta dish ""LOW SODIUM"" if possible because I think one of the cooks has an uncle in the SALT bizness. Overall, Vecchia is good is a good bet for good italian, with lots of choices. more

Affordable romantic 8/3/2002

The tables are quite small at La Vecchia, but that only adds to the charm. Snack on warm bread dipped in herb-and-garlic flecked olive oil while you peruse the menu. Musrhoom risotto is recommended, but the portion is enormous. Veal scallopini satisifies, but arrives with vegetables and roasted potatoes .... Many affordable wines by the glass, including commendable house offerings. La Vecchia is a romantic spot where the location and scene are half the draw. Pros: Affordable, Great maitre 'd Cons: So-so waitstaff more
