Best

The best ever mexican food- it's so authentic! Great spot, highly recommend it have the loborito and the nachos. Pros: none Cons: none

Worst

I wouldn't recommend the restaurant. The food is mediocre and the atmosphere isn't pleasant. The bar is better.

Superior Service, wowie margaritas 3/17/2006

The service was exceptionally good -- far superior to many places Companion and I have been to in the metro area. The strawberry margarita I had was excellent. Our entrees tasted very good - brought the extra part home. the pricing of the food and drinks is very affordable -- definitely mid-level budget. We saw some large groups of 8 to 10, including several children - we were not surprised because we had read the prior reviews here beforehand. The decor was festive and bright, even in the bar area, which of course made it inviting for families to come here -- and they are clearly aiming toward the family and groups market. Pros: Margaritas!, Superior Service, Inviting for families Cons: "Suburban" decor more

Very Disappointing 1/2/2006

Having just moved to this area and reading the reviews here, we were excited to try La Fonda. Service was slow, food was edible, just... We won't be back. more

An average Mexican restaurant. I can make better salsa and chips myself. The service should improve. more

Its the BEST Mexican Food ever ! 2/8/2005

I've lived all over the world and tried all kinds of mexican food and drinks -- LaFonda's by far has the best tasting food and love the large margaritas. Dont miss there signature dishes ""Loborito"" and the ""Burro Special"" (my favorite) .. Service is always great - prices are reasonable.. Please give them try -- you wont be disappointed. Pros: Great Food, Margaritas more

Something better than the fake wannabe Mexican food at last. Its not San Diego but We have some decent effort here to replicate some taste. I went on a Saturday evening around 6. The "on the rocks" margaritas do the trick. Cadillac rocks. The server was friendly did a great job keeping up with the growing crowd that filtered in about 730pm, got a little busy...no big, did I mention the nice 22oz margs. Tasty. Nice portions for a big hunger with decent flavor...blows Jose, Pablos and any other mega place Ive been in MN yet. Chile Rellano was good along with the tacos. Guac was decent. Chips need some help. Even had the game on! I had time to glance and still keep the misses happy! Good job and a nice change of pace. Fair price for a fair chow. Thanks La Fonda. Ill be back! Pros: Serving size, Margaritas, Fair Price more

Average 8/27/2002

Foods was average, service was average. Cost wasnt unreasonable, but probably more than it should have been. Great place to play pool or watch a game (downstairs)-not a good place to dine. more

Owner Message
  • La Fonda was originally established as "Holly Inn" in the spring of 1976.

(La Fonda de Acebo) Octaviano "Otis" Trujillo, one of the original owners, re-established La Fonda de Los Lobos in May of 1992. (The Inn of the Wolves) Otis was born in Taos, New Mexico where "Mama Feloniz" still resides at the tender age of 83 surrounded by two of her four children and still enjoys good health.

Inspired by his late father Ruben, Otis moved on to Denver, Colorado where he learned the restaurant industry and resided until the move to Minnesota.

The bulk of our foods and recipes originate from Mama Feloniz. Most of our ingredients are still shipped from New Mexico so that we can share with you the very tastes we have enjoyed for years.

  • In Short
You know you're at a Mexican restaurant by the red, yellow and green decor. Food portions are large--nachos grande, chile con queso, shrimp-and-rice burritos and La Fonda's...
