Food was OK but the lady taking orders 5/2/2012

Food was OK but the lady taking orders was really rude. The customer before me was missed charged and short changed. She wouldn't fix the problem. Then our turn - ordered 3 pastor tacos on the menu for $8.95 comes with rise & beans. The 3 on a planter comes up... she yells at the cook - No Platter - 3 only. The kicker ... It's the same price. Our other order - also comes up wrong as does the next person in line. You have to be kidding. I've been going for years... prices are now too high for what you get and the service and wait is too long. This is a walk-up, fast mexican. I recommend that you go next door. I know I will, this was my last visit. more

OMG - Amazing 2/28/2011

I would give La Bonita ten stars if I could. This is hands town the best mexican food I've had in a restaurant setting ever! The BEST guacamole around. Nachos to die for (but share because they're huge). Get your burrito 'a la bonita' style...it means that they cover it in enchilada sauce, cheese, onions and cilantro (again...you can easily share of save half for lunch the next day). Another bonus is that the staff is exceptionally friendly; you get the warmest welcome here. more

Vegan Tamales? Sold! 1/29/2011

Soooooo hard to find a vegetarian tamale these days that isn't just stuffed full of cheese. This place has the *best* tamales! Not only are they stuffed with tasty peppers and veggies, they are VEGAN! I've never strayed from this dish when ordering from La Bonita.... it's too good! The guacamole is soooo yummy and fresh, the beans and rice are delicious and the prices are great! more

Oh so good!!! 6/10/2010

Oh my gosh, what a wonderful place! Tried La Bonita on a whim, and was so very pleased that we did! \r Delicious, freshly prepared food; the fish tacos (had the cod) and asada (steak) tacos were SO good! I honestly think their fish tacos rival those found in San Diego. Pros: Good food, nice portions, friendly staff Cons: On-street parking, but its Alberta - whattya expect? more

Mexican Food at It's Best! 2/3/2010

I love fish tacos and they are super good at La \r Bonita. So good in fact, I thought I would never eat anything else there-then I tried the fish burrito with cod! The best single burrito I've ever eaten!! There seems to be fish in every bite you take, the sour cream - like butter! Everything super fresh! Definitely a dish I'd like to have with me on a desert island - I think I could eat them everyday!! Service is great ! Everyone there is incredibly friendly. I love La Bonita!! Pros: Best Burrito I've ever eaten!! Cons: Can't think of any... more

Good sized portions 1/24/2010

Nice little place on Alberta. The food was on large plates and the plates were full! Always a plus! The large portions were good except the tacos were so full of veggies I couldn't eat them as tacos. I had to use my fork and knife to cut them apart. The food was also just warm and not hot. I liked the atmosphere but may not go back due to the food. Pros: Large portions more

fab Mole! 1/4/2009

Wow, great little spot hidden on the far end of Alberta. Fantastic mole, which is no small feat. Fast, cheap, fresh and delicious. Pros: tasty, fresh and cheap Cons: Got a ""huh?"" look when I asked if they had queso more

Seriously....La Bonita is the best. Gather 'round. 10/24/2008

Listen,\r \r La Bonita makes the best burritos in Portland, OR. Their cuisine's superiority doesn't manifest in their portion size (which is large), nor does it matter with their prices (which are very affordable). La Bonita makes the best burritos in Portland because their kitchen does what any exceptional kitchen does. They prepare dishes from scratch, they cook with a home-style, and their quality shows up every single time.\r \r If someone didn't enjoy their cuisine from La Bonita, I strongly suggest they either 1) Go back and try it again 2)Shut Up OR 3)Quit comparing magnificent affordable meals to an ""Albertsons Enchilada Dinner.""\r \r Man, They're nice folks, too. Pros: Fast, Tasty, Cheap, Authentic Cons: No Draft Beer more

Go for Brunch! 8/12/2008

Totally delicious and cheap brunch - huevos con chorizo is crazy delicious. Plus their Oaxaca cafe made with cinnamon and cane sugar is a delightful way to enjoy your morning coffee. And there is never a long line, unlike most other breakfast joints on Alberta. Tacos and burritos are great too. more

Good customer service 6/20/2008

We went to La Bonita to celebrate a co-workers birthday. Unfortunately, we had a hard time locating the restaurant because they didn't have the name on the building they were in. We had heard the food was excellent, but from my experience it was 'average'. It had decent flavor, but when I picked up the food, it was 'luke warm'. This is my first experience with La Bonita, and I would be willing to give it one more try when I'm in the area. Pros: Great service. Cons: Ambience is on the 'tacky' side, parking is hard to find. more

This place is for real !! 6/9/2008

Ok folks. I don't need to say much. This place is amazing. Great mexican food. Amazing, suculent steak, beans and rice and a great atmosphere. Easily the best burrito I've had in many years. ( And I'm from So. Cal and eat mexican food at least 3 times a week). I will be a devoted patron from this day forward. Pros: Amazing Food Cons: None! more

Best burritos and tamalis in portland and beyond 5/11/2008

I am a vegatarian and mexican resturants that serve ""clean"" veg food are hard to come by, and this one is tops, they have all fresh ingrediants, their vegan tamalis are awsome, and their prices are very affordable.\r \r every item tastes home made, with fresh ingrediants (did I say that already) Pros: Awsome food, fresh ingrediants, nothing from a can or jar Cons: somtimes there are huge lines more

Best Mexican North of SF 3/6/2008

Love this place for its incredible food from the tamales to fish tacos to posole. The rice and beans are pretty amazing. I also love the friendly services and atmosphere. more

Best Mexican for under $10 in PDX 9/29/2007

La Bontia is pretty good. It's authentic and for what it is and considering this is Portland, where decent Mexican is hard to find, this is a good place. Magnitudes above places like Santa Fe Taqueria or Pepitos (sp). Give them a chance. Pros: cheap, tasty, good mex more

Tasty Tasty Mexican Food 9/18/2007

This has been a well kept secret, or so it seems. La Bonita is fantastic, fast, fresh, and inexpensive. Even though I live across town I try to make visits there often. Their veggie burrito is easily vegan and with the reasonable charge of 75 cents adding guacamole really rounds out the wonderful flavor. It has gotten busier in the last few years and I hope all the construction around the corner will be extra seating or a to-go window because this place is bound to explode. Pros: Food, Prices, Variety, Guacamole Cons: Hard to find seats during the lunch rush more

Best Breakfast Burrito 6/3/2007

The best breakfast burritos in Portland, maybe in the world. Hashbrowns in a burrito? It's a dream come true. I can't really tell you about anything else on the menu as I've only had about a dozen breakfast burritos. Umm.. the hot sauce is great too. Pros: food Cons: small place, get take out more

best mexican food in Portland! 5/31/2007

I've been looking for good Mexican food since I've moved here and this place is it! Awesome chicken mole and everything else is just as good. Best bean and cheese burrito in town. The atmosphere is funky and cool and the service is great. Prices are great, kids are welcome and you can stroll Alberta Street afterwards! Pros: mole, burritos, parking, service more

Muy Bueno 5/17/2007

I eat here at least four or five times a week and have for the last year or so. I have had pretty much everything on the menu so I fancy myself a bit of an expert on the subject. This is the best damn place to eat and it's reasonably priced. The staff is super nice and always friendly. If you wake up on a Saturday or Sunday morning and don't want to wait four hours for breakfast at Helser's or the Tin Shed you should go to La Bonita. Chilaquiles, Huevos Rancheros and Breakfast Burritos all rule. Chilaquiles first and foremost will make you forget about the other frustrating breakfast places you might have waited outside of. I can't say anything bad about La Bonita. Pros: Everything more

las carnitas me ponen loco 1/17/2007

So you want MX food. And you're on Alberta. And there are the big 3: La Bonita, La Sirenita and Don Pancho. While La Sirenita and Don Pancho are both great, LA BONITA IS THE BEST IN TOWN. Why? The carnitas. I've tried time and time again to find a better carnitas in Portland and the burbs (Gresham and Hillsboro do it up) than the offerings at my beloved La Bonita and I'm done wasting my time and money going to other spots: La Bonita is the absolute best. Try the sweet, tender chunks of La Bonita's home cooked carnitas. There's a reason why Cityseatch and Willamette Week readers consistently chose La Bonita in their Best Ofs; it's the combination of authentic flavors and dishes, great value and service. The Lopez family owns the biz and have been there before all the annoying hipsters with shiny white belts, dumb haircuts and creepy mustaches. The Lopez family does it right, time and time again. They're good people and their wonderful food feeds me at least once a week. OK, so on to la comida. Going out for MX food in the US people almost always go for the burrito, which is fine. At La Bonita they'll give you one of best burritos you've had. But try venturing out a bit. Their carnitas chimichanga is their famous burrito deep friend and topped with lettuce, pico de gallo, sour cream and home made guac. It's a wonderful, wonderful brick shaped monster of carnitas goodness. It's huge, too. I always ask for a few wedges of lime from the always kind cooks. And speaking of the cooks, they know what they're doing. Be nice and tip them, they deserve it. Best carnitas in town. I've had a lot of carnitas from a lot of different resturants and La Bonita's are th best. Also make sure and try their pozole soup (ft. yes, more carnitas and gorgeously sweet hominy), asada tacos, horchata drink and chile relleno. I know many people flip a coin when deciding between La Bonita and La Sirenita (one door to the west) but go with La Bonita. *la salsa roja es la mejor- pica pero no tanto! Pros: Sabor de las carnitas, ambiente, servicio, bien autentica para comida mexicana en los eeuu Cons: aquellos pinches hipsters more
