Great Care & Service! 5/8/2011

Everyone was friendly, knowledgeable, and very caring to my two dogs. They were both neutered and I found the cost cheaper than I would have paid states side for the same procedure. They definitely care about the animals, and don't mind going the extra mile. I would definitely recommend them!! more

Seems good to me... 3/28/2011

I have been going to them for 3 years now. I'm in the military and had no choice but to come to Kodiak. So far I have no issues with this clinic or the staff. They have always been professional to me and have taken very good care of my pets. As far as price, I don't really pay much attention since I expect a huge bill as we are in KODIAK!! more

Monopoly in Kodiak 3/15/2011

After reading through the unsatifactory reviews for this office I have to agree that they are exactly right. There is a monopoly in this town and they know they own it. A non emergency visit will at LEAST cost you over $180.I took my dog in the other day for an infected sore she'd licked and came out paying $252. All she did was look at the puss under the microscope and prescribe antibiotics.I had already shaved it and cleaned it so there wasn't much for her to do. I have lived in many different states due to my husband's job and so I am not ignorant when it comes to prices and care. This office will rob you blind and unfortunately there is nothing you can do about it since they are the only vet office in town. The level of care is average at best and the prices are exhorbant. My friend was quoted $350 just to put her old dog to sleep. Talk about making an aweful thing worse! All I can say is I don't know how that Dr. sleeps at night. more

Scathing Review 2/20/2011

My pet has been in twice. Both visits Dr. Angie was insulting and she was rough with my pet. It sure looked as if she put a needle clear (in one side and out the other) through the small pet's bladder while she tried to get a urine sample. I've received top notch care for my pet in four other areas of country and all within the past 4 years Drs. Angie and Jeff charge an arm and a leg. Neither the cost of living on Kodiak nor the level of care they provide account for their high charges. My pet was treated by a veterinary neurologist on an inpatient basis for a head injury in 2003 for the same amount it cost here to have an abcess drained in 2007. For the reviewer who was impressed by Dr. Angie's offer to have results checked by a "specialist", anyone can access the consultations at the "specialized" veterinary teaching hospitals, WSU at Pullman for example. Here's a story: One visit I called and told her my dog was in pain and that it was inhumane for it not to be treated on an e more

I was pleasantly surprised 11/22/2010

I found out my 14 year old doxie had lymphoma the day I moved to Kodiak and I was terrified of not being able to get him the proper care he needed. When I got to Kodiak, I was pleased to find they offered very up to date care, including many different options for chemotherapy. I dealt primarily with Dr. Angie and found her to be so caring and she answered all of my questions and concerns. My dog was initially given 6-9 months (IF he was treated with chemo) to live and he is still kickin' 15 months later. Dr. Angie even sent his file to a renowned university veterinary program to get additional ideas for how to treat him since his case was not typical. \r I will say that they are expensive, but everything is here. An emergency call will cost 2 or 3 hundred dollars (I can't remember) just to get the vet to the office to see your pet on a Saturday or Sunday (they are closed on Saturday?!) However, after my dog got into the trash and was having severe digestive issues, I called the emergenc more

Pretty Good Vet Clinic 8/23/2010

Only went there twice when my cat got sick and both times they were very nice and considerate, had to use emergency call the second time. I do think it is hard to tell someone that their pet is beyond help but the doctor did and later even him and the staff sent a thoughtful sympathy card. The prices are definatly steep but what isnt on this island? \r I definatly recomend them even if it is the only vet clinic on the island. Sometimes you dont have the option as others mentioned to leave the island when something happens and you have an emergency on hand (mine had nerve problems all a sudden..he was older than 10yrs, owned him for 10yrs exactly but it was just all a sudden for him)\r I dont believe they are all about money because they would have come up with options for my baby just to make money off us before finally telling us there is nothing they could do...thats my two cents anyhow.\r Giving them four stars just because I only used them twice. more

Go off island if you can 8/1/2010

I'm with Joe on this one. The drs don't care anymore. If u go to manta.com you can see their estimated income. I think the johnson's just need to give it up and hand that biz over to someone who cares about the animals. The staff has changed recently and not for the better. They have atleast a couple good nurses. I'm not sure why they would have two rude people working in the front greeting people. I just want a dr who cares about my pets and their wellbeing. Not people who care about hitting that 1million dollar + mark at the end of the year.\r Ps if your going to write your own review make it a little less obvious more

No other choice!!!!!! 7/12/2010

The last review is froma person who is eather a near and dear friend to the DR's who work ther or the new front desk employee writing his own reveiw. The truth is the doctors and managers at kodiak vet clinic only care about MONEY!!!! My animals have been seen there before and i feel that along with the rest of the comments DR.Jeff and DR.Angie lack compassion and lust for money. Dont get me wrong you animals will get care no matter what. I could not put a price on my dogs and i would sell my soul to save them, but let me tell you to get care there you might have to sell your house to pay for it. The clinic is the only one on the island. I would have to recomend if going there to see DR. caldwell who is ther from time to time while the money hungry owners are of to africa or south america on month long vacations. I was in there on the 12 of july and the new front desk staff was terrible. The guy who works there was filling me full of hot air,and his twin had no ideah what was going more

World-Class Veterinary Care With Compassion 1/18/2010

08/04/10: \r \r Contrary to what Kevin or Joe may think, I'm just a humble healthcare professional, providing care for humans, and am in no way affiliated with Kodiak Veterinary Clinic although my several pets have greatly benefitted from the clinically outstanding and compassionate care they've received from Dr. Angie and Dr. Jeff. Please remember that excellent health care doesn't cost -- so much as it PAYS. And the endless whining about expense: On what are you basing your comparison? Some backwater horse doctor who charged a $15 flat fee and killed more patients that he saved? The large city from which I recently moved had numerous veterinarians, including a veterinary college, and the prices all around were much higher than Kodiak Veterinary. If you're comparing veterinary prices from 1970 and comparing that to what you pay in 2010 and calling it "outrageously expensive" well . . . make sure you're comparing 2010 apples to 2010 apples.\r \r Perhaps if you took into consideratio more

The worst! 12/30/2009

I have lived on the island for 12 years now and the vet clinic is worse than it has EVER been! The doctors simply do not care, they seem to be blinded by the business aspect of it all. They run a monopoly on the island here and they know it. Prices are ridiculously high and the care that my animals have gotten there has been subpar. The doctors appear to lack any sort of compassion. The only good thing is that they are often gone on vacation and the alternate veterinarian (Dr. Caldwell) is great. I would highly recommend getting anything other than routine checkups done off island, it will probably save you money too. Their decision making seems to be based largely off of what is most profitable to them. My dog had a torn toenail and I ended up paying near $500 for a surgery they claimed to be vital, I found out later after doing research online and talking with other veterinarians that she simply needed some antibiotics and a bandage. Avoid this place at all cost! more

Refused 1/5/2009

They flat out refused to see my dog when she was hurt. What does that say about there willingness to help animals in need? I now have to fly my dog out of town. BTW if this has happened to anyone else... there is a great vet in Homer... cost is half as much as in Kodiak. Its worth the ferry ride! www.homervet.com more
