Never a bad experience 6/7/2008

I cat get enough of this place! The food is fresh, flavorful and never bogged down with too much grease which often happens with noodle dishes and you end up not being able to taste the ingredients. The mushroom soup is one of my favorites and ability to choose your own 4 fresh, seasonal (and organic if you want) veggies is perfect. I have also found the service to be very attentive. Pros: fresh food, options of veggies, attentive service, great neighborhood Cons: the ambiance is a little lacking but nothing a little lighting redistribution couldn't help more

Tomato curry + me = yum!! 10/26/2007

I stopped in here for lunch with friends and has a great experience. At first I thought the food is a little pricey, until I tasted it, yum! It was worth every penny. I really liked the choose your own vegetables idea and with local, in-season veggies to choose from it was hard to narrow the choice down to four. I had the chicken tomato curry in sweet yam and the sauce was amazing. When I asked what was in it, the chef actually came out to our table to talk about it. I only wished I lived closer so I could go more often. Pros: Great food, friendly people Cons: too far from my house more

great Malay restaurant 9/29/2007

The owner of this restaurant is very passionate about making a difference. The waitstaff is very attentive to the needs of the customer. We love that the menu lets you pick your own veggie and protein. The food was healthy and delicious. The chef her understands that one doesnt need to compromise on health when eating out. We were very impressed by the personal attention we got from the owner who is very passionate about feeding quality food to the customers. Kinta is a great Malay restaurant worth trying for everyone. Pros: menu Cons: none more

Creative dishes, delightful cocktails, prompt friendly service 8/29/2007

This restaurant is all about YOU. The owners/chefs bring a Malaysian flair to the concept, "Have it your way." They take care to support the local farmers, and offer a daily-changing selection of market vegetables. Sure, it's vegan-friendly, but I bring my omnivorous friends here frequently and they always find something to eat. (VEGANS: Take note... this place is REALLY vegan-friendly!) Diners choose their entrees according to seasoning and basic ingredient, then customize it with a selection of 4 items. We have a nice choice of starches (2 rices, 2 noodles), a buffet of beautiful local produce, and a main ingredient selection of chicken, fish, shrimp or two kinds of tofu. I always get two kinds of tofu and two veggies, while my friends order chicken, fish or shrimp with three veggies. It all works out to be a delicious experience, as spicy hot or as subtle as your tastebuds dictate. The seasonings are bright and complex, and NEVER, never overpowered by spicy heat. They have a decent wine selection, some good beer, a wide variety of alluring cocktails, as well as an excellent selection of non-alcoholic beverages. Another plus: The art work is beautiful! I highly recommend KINTA. Pros: Excellent food, owner operated, not a chain, supports local farmers. Cons: Parking can be challenging, but so what? more

Great Noodle Soups 12/10/2006

I was here the other night and tried out their Tropical Malaysian Curry soup. One word: Amazing. I asked what was in the broth and was surprised to find out that it's all vegetable based. I'll have to come back and try out their other soup selections. They have some interesting cocktail selection. I also tried the Lycheeky cocktail, quite good. Service was prompt and friendly, no problems there. Pros: Good soups, pleasant ambiance Cons: parking more

subpar service, boring food 11/30/2006

Maybe we caught this place on an off day. It was completely empty when we dropped by for lunch shortly after it opened. The setting was attractive, but not particularly comfortable. The service was awkward---the waitress was obviously struggling with English, seemed to be cripplingly shy and spoke so fast, we had a hard time understanding the choose-your-own-ingredients concept being offered. We ordered two different items with our specifications and a glass of wine apiece. Then we waited. And waited. And waited. No wine, no utensils, no food. As we were the only two people in the place we were a bit puzzled by the delay. We noticed the waitress chatting to two passersby who were perusing the menu out front, but she resolutely refused to look in our direction. By this time, 10 to 15 minutes had passed with nary a glass of water to entertain us. Five minutes more and my husband?s meal arrived. Mine was nowhere to be seen. Neither was the wine forthcoming. I told my partner to go ahead and eat. 10 minutes later, and my meal appeared. Still no wine. I had to remind the waitress, and then we got the beverages about half way through the meal. Sigh. Service aside, the food was, eh, pretty much one note. At least my curry was--I was bored after three bites. My husband?s dish was a little more engaging. Long story short, I wasn?t encouraged by the food and the service was bad enough that I haven?t considered a return trip. Pros: Unusual concept in menu, interesting decorations Cons: Service, boring curry more

One of the best meals I've had in a long time! 11/26/2006

I had a wonderful meal at Kinta! There were four of us, and we each ordered a different soup for lunch. The flavor was out of this world! The portions were huge and the service very friendly and attentive. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. The dessert was delicious too! Kinta is a restaurant that I will be visiting again and again. I look forward to trying everything on the menu! Pros: Food, service, ambience more
