Poor Service! 11/27/2011

Went for brunch. Had made a reservation for 7 people and ended up being 5, and the host acted a little rude and put out. However, we were seated promptly when we came in. Service was terrible. It was a late brunch (1pm) and a lot of people had cleared out, but we still waited almost 50 minutes after we ordered for our food to come. And our waitress was nowhere in sight. Finally our food came, and one of the side dishes was cold and dry. The rest were still warm, which made me think that the waitress held on to our order for 40 minutes before giving it to the kitchen. No apologies were given to us. Food was OK, nothing spectacular. Will not be going back. more

Tasty, Romantic... and Affordable (if you do the Prix Fixe menu) 12/28/2007

A perennial favorite of mine. Great menu (changes periodically, much to my dismay when I find a favorite). I love the Prix Fixe... for $28 you get an appetizer, entree, and dessert. A good deal considering it costs about that much for a chain restaurant, and the food here beats that hands down. The bernaisse sauce on the Chicken Oscar w/Lump Crab meat is to die for. The Seafood Crepes are the best appetizer (though they're now an entree unless you go regular menu), flavorful with just a hint of spice and full of seafood, they're surprisingly delicate. They never disappoint. Overall, the staff is attentive and good. The food is usually excellent, but I will agree that it can vary at times (I've never been disappointed. It always varies between very good and stellar.) Very nice wine list, with a wide range to suit most tastes with good selections in every category. The desserts are also good, though some tend to be a little on the heavy side. I like the Creme Brulee, Hazelenut Obsession... grand marnier sauce really ties it together with chocolate mousse and ganache and hazelnut. Warning: there is no Prix Fixe in December. Also, there is a discount day for wine weekly. Servings are ample. Having just enough to satisfy... or perhaps one to two extra bites left. Porch can get chilly in winter months. Bring your significant other, it's a great date, and a lovely place to ""pop the question"" my husband was the 2nd generation in his family to do so there. And, of course, I said yes over a lovely bottle of Joh. Jos. Prum riesling and prix fixe dessert. (Hey, we're teachers... so we gotta cut corners sometimes... like that prix fixe. The cheap way to eat there, without feeling cheated at all. The menu selections are still luxurious, if somewhat paired back.) more

Although at times Kings Contrivance varies in quality depending upon the executive chef on staff, it is generally a restaurant with excellent food, a wine list that encompasses all tastes, and service which is generally very good. Pros: Good Food, Good Service, Good Wines Cons: , Prices could be lower, Pave Parking Lot more
