Great shopping experience 7/7/2011

Recently I had the opportunity to visit Kelly's Home Center for the first time. My neighbors recommended I visit them for my new appliances and TV. When I showed up I had a decent idea of what I wanted for a new washer and dryer and TV. I worked with two different salesmen (one in appliances and the other in electronics), on the appliance side of things they had what I wanted in stock and I had it installed the next day. The TV was the same story, they had what I wanted for a great price. I strongly recommend to my family and friends to shop at Kelly's because hands down they have the best service in town. I'll be back for sure. more

Good experience at Kelly's 1/14/2011

We went price hunting for the best price for a better than average dishwasher. I was happy with Lowes because they had 10% off and we would only have to wait a few days to have it delivered. We checked out Kelly's and they had a similar model at basically the same offer. The salesman gave us some good information and was very knowledgeable. He offered to let us to check the computer for other store prices, but we chose to run around and check out different stores to see the different models for ourself. We found a great buy at Sears..but it wouldn't be delivered for 5 days and the sales staff weren't as helpful...maybe it was a busy day. So we went back to Kelly's. They gave us the same price as Sears had, and we got the dishwasher that day! It was a good day and I feel we got the best price for a very good appliance. more

Be very careful when purchasing from Kelly's 11/14/2010

My husband and I purchased all of our kitchen appliances at Kelly's a year ago except for our fridge, so when asked if we wanted the warranty we said yes. Jeff Kelly (one of the owners) told us to get the warranty through Kelly's for our fridge even though we had purchased it at Sears. He talked us into adding it to the warranty and told us not to worry that he would just add it to the warranty with the other appliances and it would be much cheaper then Sears would charge. A year later when we called Warrantech (the company Kelly's uses) because of a faulty ice maker they said they had no record of a warranty for a fridge and that Kelly's sometimes ""forgot"" to fill out the paperwork required to start the warranty. When we talked to Kelly's about this they denied it and said that the fridge was fully covered. They then offered to take care of it. Almost 3 months later, and after calling Warrantech almost every day sometimes 3-5 times a day and never reaching a real person, Warrantech decided to deny our claim because we didn't purchase the fridge at Kelly's and they didn't have proof of purchase (even though we faxed and emailed the receipt to them multiple times). By that time our fridge had totally shut down (the fan burned up because of a broken door on the ice maker which in turn burned up the compressor) and a fridge full of spoiling food. The lady I left messages for Liz Diaz at Warrantech, was supposed to be the manager but never once called me back and neither did anyone else there. I did get emails that told me she was working on our claim but they got progressively more disrespectful and rude as more time went by. After a bit of arguing, Kelly's said they would refund our money for the fridge warranty but as you may know, you cannot purchase a warranty after a year has gone by on a broken fridge. We said that we wanted the fridge fixed so they bought an after market 1 year warranty through Sears and a 2 weeks later our fridge was finally fixed. When we asked Kelly's what we would do if our fridge broke again in the next four years we were told ""we think we have taken care of you to the best of our ability and have been very helpful."" Well...for us there is a big difference between a 5 year warranty and a 1 year warranty so NO they didn't take care of us. I called the owner and left a message to have him call me back about the situation, my husband and I went in to the store and spoke with the salesman and he said he would take care of it and get back to us, and I spoke numerous times with the lady who does the warranty work upstairs and she said she would speak to Jeff Kelly but didn't think they would do anything else. I never heard back from anyone...I guess they just figured the fridge was fixed so we should be happy. We are not happy. Watch out, the sales people know just what to say to make it seem like they care and they are listening but don't let them fool you...they don't. more

Kids Spring Break Cooking Camp not geared for Kids! 4/14/2008

I am a single mother who is trying to get by on a shoestring budget with one daughter out of state in college and another here at home with me in Salem and also I am the temporary guardian of another little 7 1/2 year old girl. I decided it would be a great experience for the girls to attend the cooking class, I figured it would be somewhat similiar to what I experienced as a young girl in home ec class. I have to say I was extremely dissapointed. I spent $158 - which is a whole lot for me....for the girls to go to a class that was all about preparing asian type food. I was shocked....the kids didn't even enjoy eating what they were, for the most part, ""watching"" as it was prepared. My girls were told they could not cook because the meal that was being prepared used an open flame and it was too dangerous. Well of course it is! I can appreciate at least their welfare was considered - but why weren't the items being prepared something more age appropriate? The food was not something kids typically would enjoy. ""Asian Baked Buns, Egg Drop Soup, Red Bean Ice Cream, Teriyaki Chicken, Vegetable Stir Fry, Coconut Rice Pudding, Pad Thai, Banana Fritters and Mango Smoothies"" The only two items that even come close to what I would consider ""maybees"" would be the Fritters and the smoothies. It was a big disappointment to not only them, but to me also - - I wanted this class to excite them about cooking - not be so complicated and about cooking foods they didn't even like..\r \r When I called asked her about the menu and the appropriatness of the menu items considering the ages of the children in the class Chef Donna stated that she did not have children of her own and quite possibly wasn't the one best suited to teach this class. \r \r I'd be interested in hearing back from someone there at Kelly's about this.\r \r I never received any reply from Kelly's! Very Disappointed.\r \r more

Well trained, knowledgeable staff 4/7/2008

To the fellow who complained that Kelly's would not match an internet price... You've got to be kidding. In your business, would you. Anyone can make up a price and send it over the internet. Also, did you factor in shipping on your appliance. That should add about 150-200 bucks to the price. \r \r In my and also several friends experience, they have matched pricing from the big box stores. The extra you get at Kelly's is someone who actually knows what they are talking about when it comes to appliances. as compared to the big box stores that have ""kids"" selling after school and on weekends without any training other than here's a fridge, sell it.\r \r NOw Kelly's service dept. leaves a lot to be desired, so if you want a good repair service, my recommendation would be United Repair in Salem. they have been out to repair several things in our home and each time it has been repaired and stayed functioning without return calls. Pros: Trained, knowledgeable sales staff Cons: Nothing is ever in stock in my experience more

Good service ... but would not honor their price guarantee ... disappointed! 3/4/2008

(March 2008) While I was happy with the service we received, we had difficulty with the sales staff when we went in to get a price matched. I had a legitimate price quote from an internet company, but I was flatly told that it didn't apply to stores with which they they ""could not compete."" When I asked to see the policy in writing, they said it didn't exist and that ""guaranteed low price"" meant that they'd match prices when they felt like it. Evidently it's up to the sales guy whether or not you get your price discount. Now, I'm not one to hassle over $20 or even $50 on a $1000 purchase, but I felt that their representation of their price guarantee was misleading and it took something away from their reputation. I was disappointed and I'd rather do business with a company that has no ""price guarantee"" than with one which advertises a ""guarantee"" and did not honor it when presented with legitimate price quotes. more

Repairman saves Thanksgiving 12/3/2007

I want to share my experience with the repair service at Kelly's. The day before Thanksgiving, my Jenn-Air range quit working. I was in a panic. I had ten family members to cook for and no oven... Mark from ARH (the repair guy for Kelly's) came to save the day. The woman who took my call very nicely said that she was sorry but the repairman was booked up. She must have noticed the panic in my voice, because she took my number and said that she would see what she could do. Within a half an hour she called me back and said that Mark was willing to squeeze me in. Thank you Mark, Kelly's, and the nice woman on the phone, who saved my families Thanksgiving! more

Always beating the competition 6/17/2007

I recently made the decision to purchase a Traeger Home BBQ. Another store in Salem was running a sale of new models with close-out pricing. I called Kelly?s about whether they could match the deal and they told me to come by the store.\r \r Virtually every business these days offers to match and beat any other competitors price but then when you try to get them to honor that policy there always seems to be some ?catch? which either results in a claim that they are not comparing ?apple and apples? or some hard bargaining just to get them to honor their pledge. Not so with Kelly?s.\r \r When I arrived at the Kelly?s show-room I was promptly met by a salesman who simply looked at the ad and immediately matched every aspect of the competitors deal. Then he offered free delivery on the same day. I was in and out in minutes and 4 hours later I had my new grill all set up on my deck.\r \r That is the very reason why every appliance put in my home, and the homes of my friend?s, over the past 25 years, has been purchased at Kelly?s. There is simply no better store in Oregon for honest and friendly service with competitive pricing. Pros: They beat the competition without hassle. Same day delivery more

Worst Service Ever 4/17/2007

I made the mistake of buying my wife new refridgerator from Kelly's last May. I prefer local businesses to the big box stores. I've bought from Kelly's before 4 or 5 times. The sales experience was always good, price fair and delivered on time. I thought maybe I was a preferred costumer as I've spent a lot of money there. Well, silly me. Well, it stopped cooling in November, I called the service department and they came within a couple of days. Had to order a part, took two weeks to get the part and then a week to schedule an appointment. Almost three weeks. A little inconvenient? No problem, I've got a good ice chest, I like camping, I'm slightly above the poverty line, I can afford to lose all that food. Two weeks ago, it happened again. Stopped working while we were away, another large box of food to throw away. Called service, they came in a couple days. Surprise surprise, they don't have the part, have to order it. The part come in a week they schedule an appointment for Monday, that's two weeks from the first call. Took off work Monday morning, only to get a call that the service man was sick. Rescheduled for this Thursday. I'm not holding my breath, but I'll take off work again, I'm tired of the ice chest. They tell me they understand my frustration, but aren't doing anything about it. I'm no longer frustrated, I'm mad as hell. I'm on the verge of painting it Lemon Yellow delivering it back to their show room. I'll not shop there again and I'm telling all my friends and family. more

TERRIBLE repair staff 2/22/2007

Besides being totally urked that my fridge and freezer quit working, I am just INFURIATED at Kelly's staff right now. \r \r I called them this morning at 9am because this is where I bought all of my appliances from. My fridge and freezer went out and all of my food is thawed and going bad. So the lady I talked to this morning was actually nice but obviously didn't do her job. She said that a service man named Mark would call me around lunchtime when he figures out the rest of his day and he will be able to squeeze me in. I was very happy with that, so I went about my day, waiting around, blah blah... 4:00 rolls around and I decide to give them a call and see if Mark will still be able to fit me in today. This snotty girl is on the other end of the phone and can't find my information anywhere. And she doesn't do anything about it!! She's like, ""No, I don't see you anywhere, who did you talk to?"" I say I don't know, and she says ""so, you don't know who you talked to and I don't see you anywhere..."" And I'm thinking, well, can't you call Mark, or talk to whoever was there this morning! I mean, what, do you have too many employees to figure it out? You don't know who you work with? And she doesn't even TRY to reschedule me, she just didn't say ANYTHING and there was a dead silence, and I'm not wanting to scream at her, so I just said well, thanks a lot. She says ""uh huh""\r So, I hung up and called a different company. It's sad, I really liked that place, but they should hire people who know what they're doing. Pros: Nice people when they know they are selling you something Cons: Horrible Customer Service in their Repairs Department. The ""Appliance Hospital."" more
