The "New" Katy News comes to us once a week (usually on Fridays). I have to be honest and admit that in the past we just considered it a nuisance that would sit there cluttering our driveway until one day I decided to open it up and read it. I had no idea what I was missing!
We are fairly new to the area, and this has been a great resource to us. Each week there are usually coupons for local businesses and restaurants, which gives us an additional incentive to go out and try new places (and gives me more places to review here!). A lot of times, they have buy one get one free entree coupons for restaurants and % off coupons for businesses. There are also usually several different coupons for local salons, so if you're in need of a new look, check the paper out first. The coupons alone were enough incentive for me to start looking through the paper every week.
One week, I started reading through some of the articles and they are really pretty good. Almost every week, they feature events that are going on at the local library. I have found out about fun events going on at branches other than the one that we usually visit by reading this, and I even found out that our local branch has a book club. The paper also has reviews of local restaurants and businesses. A few weeks ago, I found out about a "Splashway Family Waterpark" that is about 90 minutes away. I would not have known about it otherwise, but it sounds like a great resource for families with young children! This week, one of the businesses they highighted was Katy Kips Gymnastics. I had heard of this place, but thought it was mainly for "older" kids. I have been looking for a place to enroll my daughter in a "mommy and me" class and they actually have them here and they appear to be a lot less expensive than some of the others that I have been looking into!
Next week when your Katy News shows up on your driveway, don't just throw it away. Take a few minutes to read through it. You might be surprised at what you find!
