Our purpose is to make available, to each individual in the community, the information and treatment necessary for them to remain healthy. Our treatment decisions are made as if each were our own son or daughter. We are honest and fair and we keep our minds busy exploring every health option available to your son or daughter. Our goal is to help motivate and educate our patients, and the community, in support of preventative dentistry. Our practice has an understanding staff, modern equipment and techniques, 25 years experience, and the expertise to provide the very best care for your family.
Alameda Pediatric Dentistry is a pediatric dental office that has specialized in the treatment of young children and adolescents for over 25 years. Dr. Robert W. Oliver, began the practice in 1970. Dr. David Perry joined the office as a partner 3 years later and took over as the pr imary dentist after Dr. Oliver retired from the office in 1989. Our doctors and staff treat tooth decay in children using general anesthesia, conscious sedation and nitrous oxide with oxygen. They advocate using sealants to help prevent decay, encourage infant oral exams to catch and prevent baby bottle tooth decay and donate custom made mouth guards to local high school teams. Dr. Perry's mission is to ensure that the strong oral health habits learned in childhood will continue into their adult lives.
We know that many children are apprehensive about receiving dental care. Dr. Perry strives to make each child as comfortable and relaxed as possible while receiving care. First, we listen to your concerns, then we discuss different methods for making your child as comfortable as possible. Together, we lay out a treatment plan that will meet your child's needs.
We have several ways of accomplishing this.
Conscious Sedation Conscious sedation is an easy way of using a simple oral medication to relax your child without the loss of consciousness. Conscious sedation is performed using a single drug or a combination of oral sedatives and nitrous oxide/oxygen. Each dosage is individually tailored to your child's needs. Patients are selected based upon strict criteria, as each procedure and sedative agent has their own risks, benefits and limitations. General criteria include young age, extent of dental work required and inability to cooperate in a normal, chair side settin g.
Our sedation protocols are compliant with the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Strict pre-operative instructions are explained to the parents or guardians at the time the appointment is made.
General Anesthesia When conscious sedation fails or is considered inappropriate for the nature or amount of dental work, general anesthesia is recommended.
