Best

They have the best mexican food since the closing of chi-chi's. The california burrito and taco salad are great.

I'm going to start off by telling you that I do work at Jose & Tony's. And, I'm saddened by all the horrible things said about us. Most of the reviews are older and we definitely changed our service and appearance over the last three years.\r That being said, we have wonderful news. Jose & Tony's is featuring a whole new menu, with much much more of an authentic Mexican flavor. We hired a chef who is ''cooking"" a homemade menu with much fresher food. We have shredded pork, steak, Chorizo, shrimp, Chile Rellenos...the salsa, Pico de Gallo and guacamole are all made here! Plus, we still have are very popular wings and Margaritas.\r If you love us, stop in and try the new menu.\r If you hate us, please give us another chance.\r If you don't know us, come on by and try this NEW FANTASTIC MENU. more

Great wings! They have a good variety of flavors to choose from. I also enjoy the buffalo chicken wrap. They have a great wing and margarita special on Mondays. Can't beat it! And the bartender is very friendly. more

Dogsh!t might be tastier. For some 6/10/2012

Dogsh!t might be tastier. For some reason I recall that this place use to be better. How it continues to keep its doors open is beyond me! If you want to get something to drink, there are much better options around the area. If you want to get something to eat, I'm not sure there is a worse option in the entire city. DO NOT EAT HERE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!! AWFUL FOOD. I wouldn't feed this food to my worst enemy. I imagine this is what prison food tastes like. more

worst detestable walmart food...... 7/26/2011

i officially have had the worst food ever... jose and tony's more like sweaty disgusting fat body and bug sauce.. are shittin me, mexican food?.. a zagnut bar would be gourmet compared to your styrofoam plates and cheese whiz sauce. i loved the tuna clumped aka chicken tacos with hunts ketchup on it.. and did you ever hear of lipton taco rice it would be an upgrade compared to barf rice.. just stick with a bar its hard to mess up a corona. how does a deplorable business stay open in such pleasant community? i should have listened to my instincts when choco taco's are your dessert.. i'm opening a restaurant and serving fruity pebbles in a plastic bowl, pigs u should be ashamed for advertising that crumb bumb hole.......... more

What happened to this place? 4/18/2011

This place opened in the late 1960's and was one of the first mexican resturants in the city. I thought it was good back then, either I just didn't know any better back then or it has really gone down hill. It's a shame, the food is way below par. What you can buy in a super market and throw in a microwave is better. It's a shame that a Pittsburgh landmark is ruined. more

Diarrhea on a Plate 5/3/2010

Jose and Tony's is a decent place to grab a beer, just don't eat the food. I paid maybe 7 or 8 bucks only to receive a crusty, dry and burned ""enchilada"" on a styrofoam plate with plastic silverware. The guys in the kitchen literally slopped some crap on a plate that was sitting out all day, nuked it in the microwave, then called us to come get it at the counter, at which point they all went outside to smoke. Not only is the food awful, but so is the service. \r \r Do yourself a favor: heat up a Hot Pocket, punch yourself in the face, then throw $10 in the garbage- it'll save you the time and shame of eating at Jose and Tony's. Pros: none whatsoever. Cons: everything: no service, crappy food more

Are you people cracked out? 10/10/2009

I'm sorry.... I hardly EVER give bad reviews... BUT THIS PLACE DOES NOT HAVE AUTHENTIC MEXICAN FOOD! I had the WORST tacos EVER here... The wings were the only thing I could stomach! Everything was mushy and overcooked... If you want REAL authentic Mexican food go to Mexico City in Downtown! Pros: Wings... Maybe Cons: THE ""MEXICAN"" FOOD!!! more

Go to a real mexican restaurant! 6/23/2009

This place is absolutely aweful!! The food is dry and tastes like it was cooked in a microwave! This is no where near authentic mexican food. There are good Mexican Restaurants in Pittsburgh now, expand your horizons!!! Mexico City downtown is a great start! Pros: nothing Cons: terrible food, bad service more

Terrible and the beer couldn't make it better. 12/5/2008

I try not to read reviews prior to going to a restaurant and I did read some today and tried to stay positive. Unfortunately, those who gave it a poor rating were spot on. I thought I remember the food being good, this being over 10 years ago. The refried beans were worse than the stuff we have on occasion at home. Very disappointing for the prices charged for enchilada plate and burrito. Should've went to Atria's. Cons: thumbs down. more

Microwaved gringo fare 11/19/2008

It's been a while since I've been there and for good reason. It's basically gringo fare that isn't really Mexican: you know, the kind that has bland ground beef with the orange cheese, refried beans from a can, and iceberg lettuce that has little to do with the cuisine from any of the many cooking regions of Mexico. Its advantages are that it is cheap, family friendly, and the beer is decently priced. Last time I was there they served most food in weird black plastic containers, but this may have changed. With a menu and ingredient edit, it could improve. I'm assuming the proprietor(s) serve this version of ""Mexican"" since that's what most Americans buy and think is Mexican, but if they did some research (there are books out there), they could improve the menu while still keeping it low-key, and actually increase sales... The neighborhood has some other restaurants within walking distance too, but none that are Mexican. more

Awful food 10/4/2008

I actually couldn't believe how bad the food was. I am not that picky, and I wasn't expecting that much since it's just a local bar. But honestly, my burrito was cold and gummy and disgusting. My husband's meal was just as bad. more

great mexican food 7/28/2008

They have the best mexican food since the closing of chi-chi's. The california burrito and taco salad are great. more

great food for a good price 6/19/2008

Jose and Tony's is a great neighborhood joint. I have been going there for over 10 years and never had bad food or service. You get quality food for a reasonable price. Pros: prices, service more

Bad service, Bad Food. 6/18/2008

I can?t believe that anybody could possibly write a positive review of this place that calls itself a Mexican Restaurant. I saw a review that said ?Fast Mexican Food for the Easily Satisfied?. I am evidently not easily satisfied!!! When I spend over $30 on a dinner I expect a little more than paper plates and plastic ware. \r The service was terrible. Me and my fiancee were told that our orders were ?Interesting? after we ordered a steak quesadilla and a burrito with extra cheese. After waiting for 20 minutes I realized that we were missing something that is in my experience pretty common in most Mexican Restaurants--Chips and Salsa. When I asked the girl at the ordering stall if we were to receive complimentary chips and salsa or if they were extra, she looked at me very confused like and asked do you mean with cheese? After brief silence, I told her that I just wanted the chips and salsa, and she acted very confused like, as to say why would you come to a Mexican Restaurant and order such a thing? Then she charged me $3 for bagged, stale chips and mediocre salsa. \r Then when we finally got our meal we were briefly amazed that they were on paper plates and that the quality of the food was slightly better than Taco Bell or QDoba. \r Very disappointing!!! \r more

Worst ever. 6/16/2008

This is the worst Mexican food I have ever eaten. I paid $6.00 for something I could have got at Taco Bell. Both the chicken and beef were overcooked (and by overcooked I mean sitting on a stove cooking for 12 hours), everything was DRENCHED in cheese and some disgusting sauce...and this place can't even spring for real plates or utensils...or even MENUS...I will never eat here again and seriously wish I could get my six bucks back. more

Food is great, service is okay 4/17/2008

The food here was always really good and there is a lot to choose from on the menu. The customer service is OKAY at best, in that I do not think the staff was overly friendly but my food was prepared quickly and was hot and delicious. If you are looking for great food at reasonable prices this would be a nice place to check out. more

GREAT WINGS! 3/2/2007

Jose and Tony's is a great neighborhood/bar eatery. Most of the entries have been about the mexican food..........which is good too........................but if you haven't tried their wings, you are definitely missing out!!!!! more

how did this place get an 8.8? 12/13/2006

When I first moved to Pittsburgh a year and a half ago from Los Angeles, one of my co-workers told me to try Jose and Tony's for some great Mexican food. I went not long after and was bitterly disappointed. I am all for hole-in-the-wall places; in fact, I often think they have better food. But the best way I can explain Jose & Tony's on the night I went was it was 2 white guys and a jar of cheese whiz. Maybe I am spoiled growing up in a predominently Mexican city where the food was amazing, but I haven't found anything comparible to me in this town and this place was the least satisfying of all. Very bland and uninteresting. I don't feel it should not be a top 10 Mexican restaurant in Pittsburgh (but perhaps that is because there are only about 10 Mexican restaurants in Pittsburgh to begin with!) Save your money and go to El Campesino, La Fiesta, or Old Mexico of Washington. They are vastly better options. more

GREAT Mexican food! 11/27/2005

This is a very relaxed atmosphere restaurant. I like the very extensive menu and the willingness of the staff to handle special requests. This is non-chain food at a good price. Very good. They have added a bar. PROS: Excellent food quality & value for price CONS: Limited on street parking more

Best Margarita in the Burg 5/5/2005

Jose and Tony's is a well known landmark in the Mt Lebanon/Dormont area. The atmosphere, food, and staff are great. The food is more of a Tex Mex and they also have other nonmexican entrees. Off to the bar you go to enjoy a wonderful margarita or one of there many mexican beers. I would have to say overall that everyone should experience Jose and Tony's aleast once in their life. I have been doing so for 20 years. Pros: nonsmoking avail., hours for food, big screen tv Cons: Restrooms(1), Parking more
