Delicious, romantic, exotic 3/20/2010

This place was so quiet and hidden away. It is like it is in an old house, with multiple rooms. We discovered it from the Memphis Flyer coupon. The drinks were very strong, and the steaks were amazing. Restaurants like this are few and far between - I love it's ""old world"" atmosphere. I wish there were more hidden away restaurants like this in Memphis - it's atmosphere is rare. The music was beautiful - modern, but romantic and relaxing. I loved it and it has become a new favorite. Pros: Unique for memphis more

Excellent Restaurant 2/14/2009

My husband and I have been going to Jim's Place for 25 years. We started our first year of marriage when we lived in Memphis. Yes, it is slightly more expensive but the atmosphere and food are worth it for an occasional special treat or a special occasion. We are going there tonight for Valentine's Day. We now live out of town but still drive to Memphis just to eat there at least 3- times a year. I have tried several items on the menu and all have been delicious. We always get wonderful service and all the servers are very professional. We took some friends there last year on my birthday. They had never been there before and said it was the best restaurant they had ever been to. They asked to go again a few weeks later. I have read some review on here complaining about the different areas to sit. We have sat in every room there is. The so called hallway is a room with tables that are like a patio section. It is perfectly comfortable. What restaurant doesn't have someone walking by to seat another party. It is not a hallway it is a simply the first room you walk through. It has a nice view of the outdoor patio with lights in the trees. If you have not try it please give it a chance. I promise you will not be disappointed. We also have a friend who lives in Arkansas. We meet him in Memphis once a year to visit. We always go to Jim's Place for dinner. It is definitely worth the trip. I am looking forward to a wonderful romantic dinner tonight. more

Prejudice 11/11/2008

Me & my family(African Americans) Went to Jim's Place for my fiance's B-Day on Nov 11,2008. We could tell that the place was not crowded by the parking lot. When we entered the restaurant , we were asked by the host ""How many?"" I replied, ""5"" So he said hold on & walked off. Now at this time we are thinking"" I wonder what do we have to hold on for, there is'nt hardly anyone in here. Well maybe they are getting a table set up for us."" Anyways when the host came back we followed him to our table, which was in the hallway. I noticed there were only white people dining in the restaurant at the time and all of them continued to glance over at us the whole time we were there, as if we did'nt belong. So finally my father-in-law gets up and decides to take a look around the restaurant to see if there were any more available seats. We wanted to know why we were sat in the hallway of the restaurant where there was a lot of traffic back & fourth. So he finds a big dinning room were 3 other groups were dining and there were PLENTY of round tables in that room. So he asked our waitrest could we move to that room. She said ok, but we demanded to know why we had been placed in the hallway when there was all of these available seats in this big dinning room with everyone else. It made us feel unwelcomed and uncomfortable, and also we had been told that they had just ran out of 22' steak when we ordered. Now how is this possible they did'nt even have a full house. It was all lies. When my father-in-law spoke with the manager the manager said(and I quote) ""You'll could've asked to move"" Now what type of professionalism is that. We should have never been placed there in the first place. Warning to all African American people ""Do not eat at Jims Place"" We are not welcomed! more

PRICES DO NOT BELONG WITH THE FOOD. 2/2/2008

The food is no more than average with prices that do not belong !! Some of these reveiws seem to be from a completly differant restaurant. the service was good but no more than you would expect. I DO NOT recommend. more

We used to like going here.. Pros: interesting menu Cons: can't deliver more

WORST DINING EXPERIENCE EVER 11/10/2006

WHAT A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY, EVEN AFTER WE CALLED THE MANAGER THE STEAK STILL TASTED LIKE BURNT CARDBOARD AND IT WAS ORDERED MEDIUM RARE. WORST DINING EXPERIENCE EVER.... WOULD NOT EVER RECOMMEND NOR WILL I COME BACK. THE MANAGER EVEN AGREED THE STEAKS WERE TERRIBLE, BUT THAT DIDN'T KEEP THEM FROM CHARGING FOR IT. SERVICE WAS SO SO. IT WAS AROUND 7-7:30 PM AND THEY WERE ALREADY OUT OF BAKED POTATOES ON A FRIDAY NITE. Pros: ABSOULUTELY NOTHING Cons: EVERYTHING more

One of Memphis' 5 best restaurants 8/1/2006

Just ate there last week. The food was excellent, and the service better than that. All the seafood dishes are great. The ambiance is really nice. Very romantic place. Rather expensive by Memphis standards. Dinner for 2 (without drinks or wine) was $85 plus tip. Twenty-five dollar tip because the young waitress was terrific. Pros: Grouper Ponchartrain more

Okay, far from exceptional... 2/17/2006

I often go to Jim's for late lunches with coworkers - simply due to there not being any other decent establishments close to work. I usually get the Ribeye, but it's way overpriced for the quality of the cut and should be about $6 cheaper. I do have to say the blue cheese is some of the best I've ever had in Memphis. They do have great salads and bread. Also, they need to consider updating the restaurant's interior. It's no longer 1985. Plus, it seems the servers seem to resent you if you come in late after the noon rush. The service quality plummets if you dine after 1:00 or so. I don't give 20% to servers I only see once every 45 minutes. more

BEST IN TOWN!!! HANDS DOWN 1/23/2006

This is the most unique restaurant in memphis! no place in town can match the amience and food as well as jim's place..steak is unbelievable but the seafood is a delicious as well..if you get a chance you should try this restaurant and you will find out that you should make it an everyday occasion..lunch is extremely underpriced for all the food you get and dinner is very romantic Pros: Amience, Great for large group, Food more

EXCELLENT!!! 6/6/2005

This is by far the best steak in town. The seasonings on the filet make the thought of using any type of sauce rediculous, plus you can practically cut this steak with your fork. The seafood gumbo is also divine! So are the crab cakes from the appetizer menu. You have to be prepared to spend a little more, but it's well worth it. My hats off to this steak!!! more

Best Overall Dining Experience 6/5/2005

This is a special dining place for very special occassions. The steaks melt in your mouth and are simply excellent. Pros: atomsphere, food, service Cons: Pricey more

Overated 11/29/2004

We were impressed with the ambience - that's where it ends. My dish tasted like a seafood potpie, the ""broccoli casserole"" was nothing more than frozen broccoli pieces covered in cheese. The salad and bread were good, but at this cost I would have liked to enjoy my entree. Oh yeah, my husband did like the ribeye. We won't visit again as long as they use inferior products and expect superior prices. Pros: Ambience more

my favorite restaurant 6/11/2004

although i moved away from memphis a couple of years ago, this still remains my all-time favorite restaurant! i have been here several times, with many different groups of people and each of them have been so wonderful and special. i came here with my entire family the night i graduated from college and with my boyfriend on the 21st birthday. the food is wonderful, and the atmosphere is awesome--it changes depending on the time of year/day. be sure to go during the holidays! more

Make it special 12/15/2003

Jim's place is one of those ""special occasion"" places, mainly because an average person wouldn't be able to afford eating there more than 2 or 3 times a year. For a romantic, elegant dining experience though, it's worth every bit. As a matter of fact, my fiancee and I got engaged there. Her exact words were ""You couldn't have picked a better place."" Pros: food, service, ambience Cons: a little expensive more

WOW 2/4/2003

Jim's Place was a great surprise! Had read about it and finally had the chance to dine there! Greek salad was wonderful and my steak was perfect. There were 30 in our party and no big problems in getting the food out correctly and promptly! Menu was diverse so that everyone found something! Didn't try any of the appetizers, but, boy, did they sound good! more

Great Dining 1/6/2003

Attention Prime Rib Lovers 10/1/2002

I recently dined at Jim's for the first time and I was really impressed with the whole experience. I love prime rib and Jim's is now at the top of my list. The 16 oz. cut was prepared and cooked perfectly. Also, the atmosphere was very relaxing and the service was great. Try it yourself! more

The Place to Dine 9/28/2002

You will never be disappointed at Jim's Place East. This is one of the finest dining experiences I have ever had and the filet just melted in my mouth. more

Dining Experience of a Lifetime! 7/28/2002

I have never been disappointed after numerous visits. From the crab-meat stuffed broiled shrimp to the fantastic baklava, the atmosphere and the delicious food is very appealing. An unforgetable special place for anniversaries, birthdays, romantic evenings, or just a pleasant family night out. Pros: Great food, polite staff, fantastic atmosphere more
