Best around! 1/3/2011

My friends and I usually make a stop here in the before going shopping on Saturdays. It’s a very friendly place. I never had the dinner menu so I can’t comment on that but lunch and breakfast were both very good! I usually get the eggs and pancakes but tried the Egg/Biscuits and gravy plate last time I visited. It was delicious! The omelets are good too! The Greek salad was even better than I can make it! I would love to know the secret ingredient! We did get dessert once and I highly recommend the cheesecake! Best around! more

Canned hash 7/5/2006

We went to Jim's for breakfast the day after St. Patrick's Day. They were serving a special of corned beef hash and eggs. I ordered it thinking that when such an item is offered as a special at the time of year that corned beef goes on sale it would be the real thing. I was very disappointed to find that it came from a giant can- they just sliced off a round- complete with the ridges from the can on the sides. It tasted like canned dog food smells. How can you advertise Home Style Cooking and then serve canned hash? My dining partner had Eggs Benedict which was edible but not memorable. Beyond that the portions are large- but what good does that do you if you can't get the food down. more

Jim's Coffee Shop 4/13/2006

An Alameda institution, Jim's recently expanded and now the famous weekend lines are shorter. This is a true short-order restaurant. Locals mix with tourists over everything from waffles to beef dip sandwiches. Very child-friendly and very noisy. Kitchsy art and photographs of patrons line the walls. My children appreciate the lavish hands with the whipped cream. more

Great Breakfast place and Friendly People 8/19/2005

I started going to Jim's Coffee Shop because I heard a lot of great things about it. I have been going there quite a few times ever since. Not only does this restaurant serve large, generously sized breakfast plates, but their waiters and waitresses are the nicest people, always greeting their customers with warm smiles and providing speedy service. I would recommend that on weekends, get there early to beat the crowd, since the line usually gets pretty long at around 10-11 am. more
