If you wander to the north end of Millvale, you'll find this most precious of gifts: an honest to goodness french bakery worthy of Rue Cler.
There are no shortage of places in this country trying to peddle grotesque imitations of french pastry; Dunkin Donuts, Burger King, Starbucks, and Au Bon Pain will all gladly take your money in exchange for a truly sad configuration of flour and hydrogenated oil.
Not so at Jean-Marc Chatellier's where the complexity of the croissant's layered yeast-risen dough is mastered for carb-laden delight.
Of course there is more that is fabulous: brioche, pan chocolat, palmiers, and even croquemboche. I'm told his American pastries (including the occasional homer simpson donut) aren't bad, but I'd never know.
Now if he only served coffee!
