My mistake apparently was buying a Chrysler Cirrus. Almost guaranteed transmission problems and yet no one seems to know how to fix it. I took my car to Jake's one summer after glowing reviews from fellow mechanics. They rebuilt the transmission to a tune of about $2,000 (typical in this area). Yet I had the same problems over and over, with my car leaving me stranded. I had their waiting room decor memorized! Finally, a mechanic there even drove my car home with him while I got a loaner car (that died on me too, yikes!) Ultimately, a computer error was found and I was left with doubts that my transmission ever needed to be rebuilt. But, that's not the end of the story. About 15 months later I had problems again, and it was rebuilt again. Out-of-warranty, but I had less than 12,000 miles on the transmission, and Jake's cut me a deal, knocking off about $1,000 of the rebuild.
