BEWARE, you are paying top dollar for RECYCLED chocolate 1/8/2011

I am giving ZERO stars to Jacques Torres, as i have learned just how well he is laughing all the way to the bank !!! Went in there three days after Christmas in search of a discounted chocolate Santa Claus, only to learn that Jaques Torrres never has a sale. What do they do with all the unsold christmas chocolates, i inquired. The answer to that is, they melt them down and make different shaped chocolate. So next time you visit Jaques Torres with the intention to pay inflated prices for tiny amounts of chocolate, ask yourself this: How old is this chocolate really? How many times has it been melted down and reconstructed before being sold to me at an extortionate price? What am i putting in my mouth...? And WHY WOULD I PAY TOP DOLLAR FOR RECYCLED CHOCOLATE ?!?! Bon appetit SUCKERS !!!! more

Nothing special at exorbitant prices! 12/24/2007

What can I say, except I'm very disappointed. The much-anticipated arrival of Jacques Torres in my neighborhood led me to shop there for a few, last-minute, Christmas stocking stuffers. What a let-down! First and foremost, their prices are insane. $4 for a tiny chocolate Santa (many of which contained bubbles, scratches, and other flaws); $9 for 9 absurdly ordinary caramels -- Kraft, anyone? The total cost for 2 miniature chocolate Santas, 18 bite-size caramels, and a few chocolate-dipped graham crackers? Around $40. Needless to say, my eyes popped out of my head at the cash register. I left thinking, ""this better be some pretty damned good chocolate!"" In a word, NOPE! Average, average, average ... at best. Pros: Convenient Upper West Side location, aesthetically pleasing store Cons: Average quality at way, way, way too high a price more
