Mediterranean Pizza was awesome!! 11/29/2007

Hubby and I just came into town and needed some eats quick. The service was great and the pie was delicious! The side salad had nice veggies and great dressing. YUM! Pros: pizza, food, service, delivery Cons: a to-go place or lunch place more

Perfect for lunch! 10/5/2007

The salads at Italian Pie are amazing! I also recommend the sandwiches; they're big, so you might want to split one with a friend. I haven't tried any of the lavash wraps, but I plan on going to Italian Pie again soon! Pros: Great price; healthy and not so healthy options Cons: none more

Love "The Pie"! 7/16/2007

I think the actual name is "The Original Italian Pie" but locals just call it "The Pie." There's a bunch of them around town. When I worked in Metairie, our office used to have the one on Vets deliver lunch to our office at least once a week. It was awesome. You could get anything from salads to desserts delivered. I'm talking real food, not Papa Johns kinda fare. And a lot of variety so you don't get bored. I'm on the Northshore now. We have two over here and they're both great. Fast service, huge portions, and inexpensive. Highly recommend the Mediterranean Salad (yummy sundried tomato dressing), Eggplant Wrap (huge chunks of roasted garlic), or the Shrimp Florentine Calzone (creamy and delicious). As you can see, I'm a regular! Pros: Great value and flavor. Cons: I don't live in their delivery area! more

Maybe it was a bad night....but terrible 11/18/2006

For starters there were not many people in the place, maybe three other tables but it still took a while for any food to make its way out. Spinach and artichoke was hot on the top, cold on the inside...I think they took it out the fridge and just melted cheese on top. Don't expect them to make it to order, but do expect the whole thing to be hot. Chicken parm sandwich was a whole lot of bread. and that was about it. not much chicken...not much parm...cheese was barely melted....not much sauce. There just weren't any guts to it. My friend got the Italian sandwich...all peppers were raw, they should have cooked them at least a little. Waitresses were nice and refilled water frequently. Maybe it was just whoever was in the kitchen, but my dad could cook circles around that guy and my dad has messed up heating a can of spaghetti-o's...don't bother, there's better options in the immediate vicinity Pros: slow...poorly cooked...plenty of bread, not guts Cons: nice waitress...nice room more

thumbs up 11/8/2006

College students in NO lived off Italian Pie, especially in the Gentilly area. Their spinach and artichoke dip is the most commonly popular dish here, and the lasgna's a great. You get larger portions dining in though, but this is a must have on a cheap budget. more

Good for lunch, too 11/2/2003

Although they don't advertise them very well, Italian Pie has a nice variety of lunch specials. These lunch combos offer a nice inexpensive way to get to know the menu options. I usually stick with the salad and pizza specials, but looking forward to being able to expand my selections . . . and waistline. Pros: Good wait service, Food well-prepared Cons: Crowded more

Tourist's are welcome 4/25/2003

One of the best pizza shops I've ever visited. A place to try after you have had you fill of the French Quarter bars, if that is possible. Great crust and sauce. Try the shrimp and garlic pizza! Beer is cold and there is a good selection of draft brands. Salads fresh and crisp. Pros: Inexpensive, Fresh ingredients, Friendly staff Cons: Poor parking, small bathroom more

I think Italian Pie has the best pizza I've ever eaten. THey also have the wheat (sugarbuster) crust which I find is better than the white crust. It is definitely the best pizza around. Thanks, Smittybirds more

Best Italian in the area... 1/8/2003

At least in my opinion. The pizza is good, but I usually get the Spinach Lasagna. The garlic sauce they use in place of the usual tomato sauce is wonderful. Pros: Fast Service, Clean, Friendly more

The BEST ever 1/1/2003

We live in Ohio but, every trip to the New Orleans area requires at least 1 visit to the Italian Pie. Pros: Delicious, Delectable, Delightful more

yummy Mediterranean pizza! 1/1/2003

The garlic cheese bread was awesome, as well as the mediterreanean pizza. The calzones looked huge and delicious as well! The side salad with the shrimp fettucini wasn't too great, with a dressing full of onion powder and bitter romaine lettuce. more

Great flavor combos 7/26/2002

Excellent pizza, excellent delivery or dine-in. One of the best BBQ chicken pizzas in the world and pretty much anything you order will be tasty and timely, the two top qualities of pizza :-) more

MuchoGusto! 7/23/2002

The dishes @ Italian Pie are always exactly what I expect. The Meat Pie is my favorite when I desire a solid meal. The perfect blend of each meat topping coupled with the distinct flavor of true italian sauce and cheeses is absolutely delectable. For lighter meals, I look forward to the Spinach & Feta Pie; that flavor combo is refreshingly exotic, along with a cool salad. What can I say. And, on fun food days, I eagerly order up appetizers of the Italian Baked Wings and Spinach/Artichoke Dip. Italian Pie is topppppssss! Pros: Inexpensive, Delivery Available, Food Made to Order more

Pie So Good You Could Cry 7/20/2002

Oh goodness I can't even begin to count how much I go there. The food is just absolutely delicious. I also love the atmosphere. It almost brings back childhood memories of walking into my grandma's house, and the whole house would just have this amazing aroma. It always made you look forward to dinner a little more. I would definitely give Italian Pie two thumbs up. more

Best Pizza and More Right to Your Door! 7/19/2002

The Italian Pie, at any of its many locations, offers the best of Neopolitan and New York Style pizza anywhere in town! From the normal toppings of pepperoni and bacon to the not-so-normal like my favorite Spinach with feta pizza or the Cajun (with yummy shrimp), this pizza chain offers a wide variety to please anyone. This restaurant also offers sandwiches made with buttery homemade pizza dough like bread, HUGE salads for the health-conscious, other traditional Italian dishes and great desserts. Best of all -- THEY DELIVER! Who can argue with yummy gourmet quality pizza being delivered right to your front door at great prices. My recommendation is the spinach and shrimp calzone, which is large enough for two and delicious. Bon appetit! Pros: DELIVERY, Large variety, Wonderful Service Cons: No online ordering more

Don't bother 6/19/2002

The Italian Pie on Read Blvd is filthy, and service is slow even if you're the only ones there. If youhave to use the restroom....hold it. more

  • In Short
This airy Uptown room is split into two by a pair of huge columns, which are further offset by a border of plants and well-placed, slightly higher tables that add to a sense of bustle. Classic staples such as pizza and spaghetti and meatballs generally fare better than higher-bracket gourmet items. Highlights are the combination pizza (all the basics) or the self-explanatory Italian "all meat pie." The meatball calzones is a sturdy, if intimidating, choice. Garlic bread is a standout in any form: appetizer, side item or meal unto itself.
