I just got my hair cut and colored at iolite by Brooklyn for the third time and have to get the word out that there is this wonderful stylist in downtown Portland. Since I moved to Portland a couple years ago, I had not been able to find anyone who could or would cut my hair in a fashion-forward style that looked attractive on me. Before finding Brooklyn, I would go home from a haircut, look in the mirror, and exclaim 'holy cr-p!"" These were senior stylists charging top dollar and my hair went from bad to worse, month after month, until I had a head of very fuzzy half-grown out hair. I was getting desperate, folks! On one of those desperate days, I found myself walking past the Iolite Salon in the Pearl remembering how I used to get the coolest, very precise, architectural haircuts in the 70's by a Vidal Sasoon-trained stylist in Seattle. I was wondering how to go about finding someone like that again, but in Portland. On a whim (sheer desperation really), I stopped, walked into the salon, and started talking nonstop about my terrible haircut to the first person I saw. Brooklyn took a real interest in what I was saying (I'm sure I seemed like a mad woman), really listened, and gave me confidence that she could remedy the situation over the next several haircuts while still letting the hair grow to a medium length. As we talked, it also came out that she had trained at Vidal Sasson in California. How is that for coincidence? The bottom line here is that the fuzz (from improper razor cuts on coarse, thick, curly hair) is almost all gone, the cut is groovy-cool, and the color (honey blond with highlights and lowlights) is amazing. My hair looks great, and I am so thankful to have found this exceptional stylist in Portland!
Pros: beautiful color, finally getting the haircuts I love
