Best

I just discovered Iolite Salon after my previous stylist moved out of state.I was particularly searching for someone who uses Wella color, as it works so ""wella"" in my hair! ;) ...

B E S T H A I R S T Y L I S T I N P O R T L A N D ! ! 7/9/2008

I am so lucky I found this page and read these reviews, because finding Brooklyn is the best thing that's ever happened to my hair! I had totally given up on my limp hair, let alone my damaged blonde color and decided I may as well give Brooklyn the chance to figure out my problems. And holy hair salon it's true: SHE'S AMAZING!! She (rightfully so) convinced me to cut a little length off my hair, and she gave me the CUTEST bounciest haircut. Then she weaved two colors through my hair not only making it gorgeous, but fixing the icky color jobs I've been getting elsewhere. I admit, I'm really picky and kind of horrible to deal with in the salon, and I have NEVER loved my hair like this before! Thank you citysearch for having Brooklyn here, and THANK YOU BROOKLYN for listening, your attention to detail and for making me beautiful!! Pros: Brooklyn's amazing work, my hot hair! more

Ask for Shelby! 6/30/2008

Shelby cut and color weaved my hair and did an outstanding job. I'm never certain exactly what I want done with my hair and she did a GREAT job making suggestions, listening to my input and giving me a great cut and color. I LOVE my new cut and color and will definitely be a repeat customer. I highly recommend Shelby. Pros: Shelby more

Brooklyn TRANSFORMED my hair!! 6/25/2008

Brooklyn SAVED my hair from absolute disaster! Last month I had made the mistake of attempting to save a dollar and lighten my own hair with box-color from the grocer. What I ended up with was a disaster. I was sick over it; my hair had turned brassy yellow! I was frantic and desperate. I was so upset, and had no idea what to do. So I asked my coworker (who always looks so polished) who could fix my obvious problem, and she sent me straight to Brooklyn. By the time I met Brooklyn at iolite, I was nearly crying. She calmly told me my options, and very professionally took me under her wing. She TRANSFORMED my hair, deep conditioned it and when I was done, she had literally changed my life! My hair was better than I could have ever imagined. She managed to remove the yellow, and match the colors in my hair to even out my skin tone. Brooklyn is truly a gifted and talented professional. I highly recommend her to anyone who wishes to look and be the best they can be. Brooklyn is an artist of the greatest capacity, and I will be her client for life! Pros: Saving my life more

I trust her with my JOB! 6/24/2008

I make my living on how I look, so obviously my hair has to be perfect no matter what. I'm photographed constantly, and my job depends on how well I keep up my appearance. I moved here from LA not too long ago, and I was in need of a new hairdresser immediately. I found Brooklyn here on Citysearch and went in to iolite to see her. Thank God I found her! My hairdresser in LA is so incredible, I was sure no one could measure up. But Brooklyn made me look better than he did! My color is RIGHT ON, it's perfect. Not only does it look perfect at home, but at work too. My hair is shiny and gorgeous, I can't believe I got so lucky to find Brooklyn.... if I could take her to work with me around the world, I WOULD. I'd recommend ANY Portland newcomers, color first-timers, or people who are tired of the same old hairdresser to see Brooklyn!! Pros: The best colorist I've ever had more

Shear Genius in Portland! 6/24/2008

I had never colored my hair until one day, I figured I'd try it. A friend referred me to Brooklyn, but I tried a different stylist instead. After wiping up my tears over my horrible hair color, I made an appointment with Brooklyn. She was SO kind to me and talked me through everything. After being traumatized, I was quite the challenge to comfort. Brooklyn explained everything to me about my hair and my options so I could try to relax a little more. Somehow, she made my color perfect, it was exactly what I set out for in the first place! She saved my hair, and my confidence in hair stylists! It's been over 2 years in Portland now and I STILL love my color every time. Pros: Brooklyn! more

Brooklyn is the greatest stylist in Portland! 6/24/2008

I just got my hair cut and colored at iolite by Brooklyn for the third time and have to get the word out that there is this wonderful stylist in downtown Portland. Since I moved to Portland a couple years ago, I had not been able to find anyone who could or would cut my hair in a fashion-forward style that looked attractive on me. Before finding Brooklyn, I would go home from a haircut, look in the mirror, and exclaim 'holy cr-p!"" These were senior stylists charging top dollar and my hair went from bad to worse, month after month, until I had a head of very fuzzy half-grown out hair. I was getting desperate, folks! On one of those desperate days, I found myself walking past the Iolite Salon in the Pearl remembering how I used to get the coolest, very precise, architectural haircuts in the 70's by a Vidal Sasoon-trained stylist in Seattle. I was wondering how to go about finding someone like that again, but in Portland. On a whim (sheer desperation really), I stopped, walked into the salon, and started talking nonstop about my terrible haircut to the first person I saw. Brooklyn took a real interest in what I was saying (I'm sure I seemed like a mad woman), really listened, and gave me confidence that she could remedy the situation over the next several haircuts while still letting the hair grow to a medium length. As we talked, it also came out that she had trained at Vidal Sasson in California. How is that for coincidence? The bottom line here is that the fuzz (from improper razor cuts on coarse, thick, curly hair) is almost all gone, the cut is groovy-cool, and the color (honey blond with highlights and lowlights) is amazing. My hair looks great, and I am so thankful to have found this exceptional stylist in Portland! Pros: beautiful color, finally getting the haircuts I love more

AWESOME MANS HAIRCUT 6/19/2008

Thank you for working me in so I can get my hair done for a dinner. I am a hispanic man and my hair is very hard to cut. No one yet has been able to do the job Shelby did. I always came out looking like a bowl was put on my head and now it has style and she thinned it out too. Thanks A lot Shelby! SWEEEET~!!! Pros: Shelby more

Great hair, good people, and surprisingly easy parking! 6/18/2008

I tried Iolite for the first time today - my first ""real"" haircut since having a baby just over a year ago! I saw Shelby - she was wonderful! Really easy to get along with, friendly and genuine. And my hair turned out great - the best bangs I've had in ages, my hair looks stylish now. My hair is long, with long layers, and now with long bangs that make me look more pulled together. The salon itself is light and bright, clean, and not crowded. Despite being in the Pearl, parking was easy - at noon I got a spot right in front of the salon, and there were plenty of other street spots available. more

Awesone Haircut and Color 6/16/2008

Great service once I entered the door! Shelby has been my hairstylist for ten years. I came in with five inches of growout and she listened,, was so patient and took so much time with me. I appreciated the great discount and the wonderful head massage. Parking is really easy to find. The receptionist is so awesome and welcoming. Iolite is upbeat and really bright! Pros: Shebly Cons: None to comment more

Run Don't Walk to Hair by Brooklyn in the Pearl 6/13/2008

Brooklyn makes me beautiful!! 5/29/2008

Brooklyn makes me beautiful!!! I walk into Iolite Salon looking like a tired hag and walk out appearing to likes of Jessica Simpson. I usually play it safe - of course, I sit in her chair for 15 minutes and talk about going brunette or taking it to a super-short bob, but I usually chicken out and stick with the All-American blonde, long and layered look. Brooklyn always does exactly what I want. I went to a guy once that argued with me about how my hair should be cut and in the end, he cut it how HE wanted - he was horrible! That never happens with Brooklyn, she may suggest ideas if I'm not sure what I want, and her ideas are always awesome, so I'm like, YES, do that! I did get a little adventurous once - I had Brooklyn cut an angled bob, longer in the front, with platinum blonde on the top and dark brown underneath. It looked so amazing. The angled cut was so good that it still looked great, even as my hair grew out long again. So, not only can Brooklyn make me into a beautiful, blonde bomber OR an edgy, angled minx, but she is cool as hell, too! You can sit and talk with her the entire time, but if you're having one of those days and you just want to sit quietly and get your hair done, then she will totally follow your lead. And she gives Aaaah-mazing head massages at the shampoo bowl - HELLO BIG TIP!!! Lastly, even though I'm a natural brunette but highlight the hell out of my hair to live as a blonde, my hair is still so HEALTHY! I don't know how Brooklyn does it? Beautiful color, precision cuts and healthy hair. Finally, my search for the perfect hairdresser is over! more

Brooklyn transformed my hair 5/13/2008

I was never very fond of my hair until I went to see Brooklyn. She suggested something completely different than I would have ever imagined trying (she wanted to take my long hair and turn it into a bob!). I took a leap of faith and I am so glad I did. My hair looks healthy, feels amazing, is easy to take care of and really complements my face. I will keep going back to Brooklyn, she knows what she is doing and has a great personality. Thanks to Brooklyn, I finally love my hair! Pros: Great advice given, friendly service Cons: none! more

Brooklyn is my hero! 5/4/2008

I found Brooklyn by stopping a woman on the street last week to ask where she got her hair done because it was GORGEOUS. She handed me Brooklyn's card and said how much she loved her, so I called that day. My hair was ruined by this guy in the Pearl and I thought I was surely doomed and out of luck in the hair department for a few months. It was brittle from bad color, wimpy looking and just plain awful. I asked him to PLEASE NOT RAZOR my hair, and he practically did the macarana with it on my hair. So I went to see Brooklyn, she was friendly and made me comfortable right away. She looked through my hair, gave me some options, and I decided to let go of a couple inches to get a shape that actually looked good on me. I won't go any further on my patchwork hair color which I also saw no hope for. But OH. MY. GOD. I look like a famous person now! Brooklyn gave me the hottest, cute haircut, my color is SHINY, and gorgeous, and the best part is, 30 minutes after I left the salon, someone stopped ME to ask where I get MY hair done!! How cool is that?! You can bet I gave those girls Brooklyn's card. I'm never leaving her!! Pros: Brooklyn! more

My hairdresser lets me relax! 3/28/2008

When I get my hair done, I like for it to be a soothing experience. Brooklyn always makes my hair beautiful, and I like to catch up with her and laugh a little, but I like to relax overall. I know she's taking care of me while I'm with her, so I'm never anxious about what I'll look like. Also, Brooklyn always allows me to have private, quiet time to read if I'm not in the mood to chat, and I love that. Of course, I love walking out of the salon with beautiful fresh hair color and confidence too! Pros: beautiful color, stylist isnt pushy on product, I get quiet time more

Truly the best colorist in Portland! 3/28/2008

Brooklyn is just the best. I have very long, straight hair and had never colored it before I met Brooklyn. I am a flight attendant, and a mother of three, so it's difficult for me to find, well, ME time! Brooklyn talked over my options with me, and we decided that a natural highlighted look would be best for me. Boy she was right! Brooklyn gave me GORGEOUS highlights. They didn't damage my long healthy hair, they grow out beautifully (I see her once every 12-14 weeks) and she touches them up PERFECTLY every time, so I don't get blonder and blonder each time my roots need to be colored. Brooklyn is kind, professional, fun, and SO well trained in what she does. She really puts the needed care and effort into my hair to keep it healthy and beautiful, and that's what was most important to me to begin with, and what makes her worth my money every time I see her. Pros: Attention to detail, well educated, My hair has never looked more beautiful more

My favorite stylist ever! 3/28/2008

Not only is Brooklyn an incredible person, she is an amazing colorist! I never enjoyed the whole hair process, but after I met Brooklyn, that changed. I came to Brooklyn with long, curly, orange... yes ORANGE hair after a bad experience elsewhere. Brooklyn transformed my messy hair into locks of beautiful, honey-colored highlights and I haven't left her side since! I look forward to seeing her shiny smile, hearing her great stories, and her cheery disposition. Every time I leave the salon, I feel and look so much better. Brooklyn has definitely changed my outlook on the entire ""hair experience"" and she definitely helped me manage my unmanageable hair! Pros: My hair is perfect and so is my hairdresser! more

Great color. Fun & caring stylist 3/19/2008

I moved here from Phoenix a few years ago and have been looking for a great stylist ever since?that is, until I met Brooklyn. She is very warm and caring and has the experience, the vision and the artistry! She especially delivers on the color. Every time I step out of her place I feel great and look 100% better than when I walked in, and to top it off I always get a ton of compliments on her work. Thank You Brooklyn...you rock! Cons: Parking more

Brooklyn is definitely one of Portland's best stylists! 3/13/2008

I have been to so many salons in Portland and have been left disappointed too many times. I was walking by iolite yesterday and stopped in to get a consultation, hoping to get some help and end my bad hair days. I was referred to Brooklyn and she was so nice! She made me very comfortable, and is so much fun to talk with. She gave me several ideas and she was actually able to fit me in. Half way through my haircut, I learned she was fully trained by Vidal Sassoon, and I got even more excited. My favorite haircuts in the past have been from sassoon stylists, and sure enough Brooklyn gave me the haircut I've been praying for. The funny thing is, she told me she specialized in color, and my haircut is perfect! I look younger, I feel like myself again, and I will definitely be back. Pros: Sassoon trained, walked in for appointment, LOVE MY HAIR! Cons: Parking more
