I've been going to Dr. Ricke for several years for my botox. The man is a pro - he is extremely knowledgeable about botox and fillers, etc. - and he takes the time to study your face, determine what is needed, share his suggestions with you, get your feedback, and then proceed.He is patient and he listens. He's been in the field many years. You can tell his focus is on giving you what you want --- not trying to sell you more procedures.He also takes steps to minimize any pain from the needles - and is supremely gifted in injecting the botox. The first time I got botox was from another medical clinic (a dermatologists office). They charged more, didn't take the time to freeze the part of my forehead before injecting it, and overdid it - causing me to get a bizarre lump on my forehead that really frightened me! I also get microderm and pore cleaning services from Suzie Savage. She is terrific. Her machine is a medical grade or more powerful model than ones found in regular aesthetician's offices so you get a more effective treatment. My skin always feels and looks fantastic after a session with her. Plus, she is just a terrific gal - always a delight to see her. more

I saw their ad in the reader for Laser hair removal on SALE due the the lagging economy and, on a whim, gave a call. Ended up going in there and buying 10 sessions of hair removal for a little under $800.00, which should have my hair area completely gone, a great bargain if you consider the cost and pain of waxing regularly :P Most people need 5-6 but I have thick hair! You have to go back every 4-6 weeks for another treatment so this should be a yearlong process. I was told by some that it would be painful but it was nothing compared to a wax!! One treatment took less than 15 pain-free minutes. They offer a lot of other services here, another thing I discovered prompted by that Reader ad was Microdermabrasion and the subsequent pore-cleansing process. OMG! I am never getting a regular facial again, since all I really wanted from facials were the extractions which they usually would do MINIMALLY at other institutions. I am going to keep coming back to the Institute because for under $100.00 I can get the Microderm (which does not hurt at all...feels like a cat tongue licking your face all over)...and then she is able to take all of the gunk out of the pores, and it's AMAZING!!! Gets your pores so much cleaner than any facial ever will. My face and future hairlessness thank the Reader for my discovery of this Solana Beach Gem!! more

Over years of sun exposure and hormone changes due to pregnancies, the skin on my face had become blotchy with dark pigmentation over my upper lip (like a mustache) and other areas of my face. I was considering undergoing photo facial treatments which would have been very pricey and would have required several trips treatments. When I went in for a consultation at The Institute for Aesthetic Medicine, I was told that I would achieve the results I wanted with a chemical peel (which cost about a 3rd less). So I decided to try the Vitalize peel. They started off by cleaning my face and applying the chemical which was left on for about 15 minutes. It did sting but was tolerable since they put a fan on your face to help take the edge off. When the time was up, they finished off with a neutralizer and instructed me not to wash my face until the following morning. My face was a little red (kind of like a mild sunburn) for a day or two. Around day three my face began to peel. IT LITERALY LOOKED LIKE SHEDDING SNAKE SKIN!! All you can do is let nature take its course and let it fall off on its own, if you try to peel it off you might infect the new skin underneath, not to mention that it will just crust over and peel up again. The peeling starts around the mouth and works its way up and takes between 3- 4 more days to fall off completely. I SUGGEST YOU REMAIN HOMEBOUND DURRING THIS TIME!.I have gone back every year since and love the results. Not only did the blotches go away, but to my wonderful surprise it also got rid of my mild acne that seemed to NEVER want to go away. I definitely recommend the Vitalize peel to anyone who wants smoother skin texture. People swear my skin looks flawless : ) more
