Don't know if it's my favorite, but it's in the top two or three without a doubt. small, layed back, and something about the atmosphere that just makes me feel welcome. more

Neighborhood Bar 3/9/2006

This is a great neighborhood bar. Me and my buddies go here almost every week. The beer here is pretty decently priced. The music here is great, lots of funky stuff. Plus, they have got pool. Its a great place to either start or end your night and you won't be disappointed with the service, food, drinks, and atmosphere of this place. There's also a good crowd here, lots of frequenters and many newbies all the time too! more

What's not to love about velvet Elvis' 12/26/2005

This is a great little hole-in-the-wall off the beaten path! It's the perfect place to see real Wicker Park Hipsters in their natural setting. The staff is quite friendly. The atmosphere is completely unpretentious. The decor is tacky and amusing--it's great. It looks like it just accumulated over the years--not like someone purposely tried to make it look like that. It's kinda like your grandma's basement. The beers are a little bit cheaper than other, more pretentious bars. I recommend the PBR. more

    Only the occasional sliver of natural light manages to penetrate the dark interior of this treasure box of smoke-layered tchotchkes. A speakeasy during Prohibition days, the place has been kept alive by its neighborhood clientele--once Polish and now bohemian--who sit at the bar under prints of familiar paintings like Rembrandt's "Young Girl at an Open Half-Door" while drinking pints of Spaten and PBR.
