I have only been here for the lunch buffet, but I've never been disappointed. Neat atmosphere, close to Pitt's campus, and rather inexpensive. Anytime I'm in the mood for Indian f...

Great food, if you want to wait over 2 hours for it!

All you can eat! 3/30/2011

Ever wonder what all the strange dishes on the menu were at Indian restaurants? Worry no more, try them instead, during weekend or evening buffets. What's even better? All you can eat! So when you realize that your favorite is chicken tikka masala (or makhni, or vindaloo, or ...) don't be shy about second helpings. It's also nice to have a full bar and some interesting Indian beers to sample. I like the Kingfisher. Great bargain when you're hungry and need to spice it up a notch! more

Great happy hour prices 3/28/2011

This is by far my most favorite Indian place in the city. Great happy hour prices for 50% off chicken and veggie dishes around 4p-6p (or is it 3p-5p? Anyway, the owners are great and make you feel welcomed. They will remember you by name. Food is delicious!!!! more

This Place Is AMAZING 3/25/2011

India Garden is one of the best secrets in Oakland. The menu is extensive and the food is prepared fresh. This restaurant doesn't cut corners like some college town Indian restaurants do. I highly suggest ordering from the entree menu if you enjoy Indian food. The Chicken Chili is untraditional and a delicious treat. The Naan, Vegetarian, Chicken, and Tandoori plates are authentic and delicious. There is a 50% off entree special in the evenings for those on a budget. The buffet is cheap and good for college kids on a budget. My only complaint is that parking is difficult on the weekends, so plan ahead and prepare to walk from a block or two away but it is WELL worth it. This is a great place to take friends and family. more

enamored with Indian cuisine ever since. 3/23/2011

I've been here for the lunch buffet several times, and while I don't know from authentic when it comes to Indian food, I know that I loved it, and I've been enamored with Indian cuisine ever since. more

You can't go wrong 3/21/2011

You can't go wrong. They do have a buffett service on Sundays. I always wanted to try that - but never did. But this is a great place. The food is quality the drinks are great. The best part for me, is the nan bread. The onion - potato breads are my favorite by miles. I also like the setting of the place, its a great place to go during their "special" hours. more

I really enjoy the food 3/17/2011

I really enjoy the food at this place. Sure it's all North Indian which makes it a bit less broad in menu selections as Tamarind, but they do their food well. My regulars are palak paneer and biriyani. I didn't like their korma very much and that is generally a staple for me. The wait staff is prompt and only one that I know of doesn't speak english. They love me because I've actually been to India, I can eat with my hand, and I can pronounce things properly. heh I had one bad experience with takeout from here which is why I will not give them 5 stars. I got palak chicken and it made me sick. I had only a bite or two and I knew it wasn't right. I love that to date, only gori/goras have reviewed this place. hahaha We need a desi review here! Oh one last thing, for the desi crowd, most likely you will need to ask for a cup of their spice paste to make the food hotter. Even if you ask for spice level 10 you'll get pretty bland food. Flavorful but not spicy. more

really loved it 3/15/2011

I discovered India Garden two weeks ago and really loved it. Lots of my friends are from India and they took me to tons of Indian food places in Oakland and it definitely is better than all of them --- at Star of India, for example, the server was rude and the food was pricey. It wasn't as fun and it doesn't have a bar . India Garden has a fun environment and cheap food and they also have this awesome bar with the best drink prices I've seen around --- on Saturdays you can get Bodington's and Guinness for like $2.50! Not even local bars have that. Also there is half-priced food 10-1. more

get the Aloo Gobi 3/8/2011

We generally came to this place for late night half off which is typical in the Oakland area in Pittsburgh. The food was generally good (get the Aloo Gobi) more

I've gone on a lot of dates here 3/4/2011

Their Chicken Tikka Masala is amazing. I had my 20th birthday here. In fact, when I get home, I need to go to the India Garden. I usually get: Naan, Chicken Tikka Masala, and mango juice. Their buffets are great, too. I've gone on a lot of dates here. more

The atmosphere of the place is what is interesting 3/3/2011

The atmosphere of the place is what is interesting. While most Indian restaurants I have ever been to are pretty serene and relaxed, this one blares top upbeat dancy Bollywood hits complete with video on multiple flatscreen televisions. One night when a Steelers game was on, the Bollywood party came to a stop. I guess that is Pittsburgh for you. more

I was not disappointed 2/28/2011

I just moved to Pittsburgh and finding a quality Indian place for takeout was one of my priorities. I am always anxious about ordering takeout from a new place sight unseen, but the guy on the phone was helpful and had no problem with me ordering an hour in advance. When I arrived, my food was ready. The Chicken Tikka Masala is really all I cared about; I have high standards given the abundance of quality indian in the town where I went to college. Fortunately, I was not disappointed! The CTM was the perfect mix of spicy/tomato/creamy for my personal tastes, and the Aloo tikii were nice and crispy (I have had unfortunate experiences with soggy appetizers- gross). I am excited to go back :) more

Fantastic 2/25/2011

Excellent place and its cheap. At least nowhere close to what the a la carte menu tastes like. The butter chicken is fantastic. The garlic naan to die for! Go after 9.30 pm for half off. more

Always leave satisfied 2/24/2011

This is a tried and true Indian restaurant for me. I've been coming here for years and always leave satisfied (and usually too stuffed to move.) I especially love the half priced evening specials...I mean Half-Price, c'mon! And Sunday and Tuesday they have a dinner buffet. I really love this place. My favorite of theirs is the Shahi Mali Kofta (it is amazing!) I also love their Chicken Chili and Shahi Chicken Makhni. Please eat here - you will not leave disappointed. more

Impressed 2/23/2011

This was the first Indian restaurant I tried in Pittsburgh and I was impressed by the quality and quantity of food. I am an Indian and have eaten Indian food else where in the US (mostly midwest) and I was satisfied with the quality of food here. I ordered a vegeterian Thali, the amount of food given in a vegetarian Thali is a lot and I had a hard time finishing it. Overall the food is good. I felt that the service can be improved in terms of time it takes for them to serve. Music is too loud there (trust me it is not like this in India nor do we have TVs in restaurants in India) . The majority of the crowd here are students from CMU or PITT. They have happy hours where certain items on the menu are half the price, so you can try out several things for less. more

Their palak paneer is my favorite 2/18/2011

Their palak paneer is my favorite - creamy but not heavy. The chicken Tikka Masala had a great sauce but the order I had, the chicken was pretty dry. I also tried Dal Makhni Maharani - amazing lentil dish. Had a little kick to it and really clean tasting. The nan is also fantastic. more

impressed with this restaurant's food 2/14/2011

After living in the DC area for a few years with top notch Indian selections, I knew coming to a new city it would be hard to beat. However, I was quite impressed with this restaurant's food and come back pretty regularly. more
