The Stuff
Iron City--pronounced "ahrn" in any bar where it costs less than $2--continues to refuel this still-hardworking town's working stiffs. Appropriate in nearly any situation, it's most at home at large gatherings of loud people wearing black and gold. Although it goes as naturally with kielbasa as heart disease, it is also something of an ice breaker and face-saver.
The Availability
Available nearly everywhere within 90 miles of Pittsburgh, with sightings in exotic locales such as Canada, New Jersey and Florida.
The History
Brewing beer since 1861, Pittsburgh Brewing Company was cobbled together by combining breweries from around the city. Iron City used to quench the thirsts of steelworkers, but now the beer is enjoyed by the Pittsburgh Kid, web start-up ingenues, mill hunks, returning expatriates and anyone else from "around here."
