For more than twenty years, my husband and I have both been avid diners at Houston's restaurants. Spanning...

I recieved a gift card awhile back from my brother to go here, so my wife and I gave it a shot. Prior to going, I read all of the reviews. I made reservations due to the recommen...

Amazing service, great food, amazing service, excellent staff, amazing service and oh yeah did i mention amazing service! more

Great Restaurat 2/21/2008

I've been here many times and I have to say it is probably my favorite restaurant in LA. Great food and drinks(including some off the menu items), nice atmosphere and service as well. I even like the cole slaw, which I normally wouldn't touch at other restaurants. I do wish they took reservations, but it is definitely worth the wait. Pros: BBQ and red meat items more

delightlfully suprising. i never imagined... 1/15/2008

delightlfully suprising. i never imagined food so good coming out of a chain steakhouse. the thai steak... more

Surprisingly good 12/29/2007

I'm a little turned off by chain restaurants, but I must say, I was surprised with Houstons. The food was good, especially the sushi (which I was excited about). The mojitos were made well. The service was fantastic--the waitress even found an extra steak bone in the back for me to take home to my dog. I would definitely return to Houstons again! Pros: Service; food Cons: Crowded; long wait time more

Attention Fry-Haters, This Is EXCEPTIONAL! 11/6/2007

So Houston's has a reputation for great steak, & great anything else that came from an animal. I, however, found a surprise treat: their fries. Even for those who hate fries, Houston's will change your mind & make you a believer of these indulgent potato descendants. Pros: French fries Cons: Long wait, dress code (not mandatory, but it's better if you do get dressed up) more

houston, we have a problem, well not really 8/29/2007

good food, had to wait even tho we had a reservation . my hamburger was more flavorful than my girlfriends filet, which she also conceded. it needed a sauce or something, and I think they just grill it , as opposed to searing it then putting it in an oven. JJs had better filet, but everything else was really good. a Pros: parking is easy, service is whatevers more

Restaurant with an Attitude! 8/6/2007

Just called Houston's Pasadena for a reservation for this Friday. A snotty lady answered and said we do not take reservations for large parties (6 adults & 1 child?). She then continues to say ""We only take reservations between 11:00-12:00noon, and 2:00-4:00pm."" Excuse me! I will take my business to Ruth's Chris or Parkway Grill. No one should put up wtih such arrogrant attitude! Pros: Nice Decor Cons: Attitude!!! more

Expensive with Rush Service! 7/19/2007

I ate here 7-18-07. The hostess asked my friend to remove his baseball hat. This rule is so ridiculous, that I countered with "" I'm so glad you asked him to remove his cap, because he is a major hooligan which could cause you many problems"", or something like that. She laughed, probably because she realised how stupid the rule is. The food is quite expensive. I don't understand why the people keep coming. I went because I was being treated to dinner and my benefactor wanted to go here. Anyway, after I asked for some bread and we barely finished it, our waitress whisked away our bread plates and butter. You know they don't bring bread to your table unless you ask for it. It's a well kept secret. At the end of our meal the waitress also took our water away, even though I was still drinking. Do you think this was a gesture to get us to leave? Even if it were not, it was at the least poor service. more

Presentation!! 5/26/2007

Restaurants can be graded on a number of fronts: cleanliness, service, food, menu items, presentation of the food, price, to mention a few. Houston's food for the buck isn't too back. $13 for a deluxe cheeseburger is a bit steep, but is served with the ""shoestring"" potatoes which were served back in the early 50's. I can't rate other menu items as I just been there but once. Overall, I would rate it a A- on all graded fronts. Pros: Good food, presentation of the food. Cons: $$$ more

Used to be better 3/19/2007

I've been going to Houstons for 7 years now, and have always been very happy with my experience. Until today. Pros: french dip sandwich, soup Cons: price, attitude more

Pasadena location is heavy on sushi and asian dishes, low on the comfort food 3/13/2007

I ate at the Pasadena location after having not been there for a few years. I remembered the comfort food like pork chops, mashed potatoes and brownie ala mode. I was suprised to see mostly fish and asian food on the menu. The food was good, but out of place in Houstons. The brownie ala mode is still fabulous. Pros: Good Food Cons: Not what you expect from Houstons more

Old Faithful 1/26/2007

I have been going to this Houston's for years. I consider it my go to spot when I want something good to eat and great service. They even make brussell sprouts taste good. Try to make a reservation though because the line can get lonnnnnng. Pros: BBQ Ribs, Smoked Salmon, tart lemonade, good parking Cons: long wait without reservation more

Not bad for a chain restaurant? 1/16/2007

The food is consistently good. The service can be choppy; I have had good, and bad experiences in all Houston?s owned restaurant (Hillstone Restaurant group). The worst Huston?s as far as service is in Century City mall, Pasadena location is much nicer, Santa Monica and Manhattan Beach are OK. The atmosphere is nice, good date place. If you eat here you must like meat, the ribs are really good and the portions are huge. It is on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for. This is a safe place to go, you know exactly what you will be getting. Pros: Good Food Cons: Pricey more

Romantic dining 9/19/2006

I used to love their hawaiian rib-eye, but they don't have it anymore. Still, the food are great. The spinach dip appetizer are the best. Romantic environment. Pros: Food, ambiance, service Cons: Long waiting more

Always a pleasant dining experience... 8/9/2006

My family loves Houston's----can't go for longer than a month before I gotta have their Spinach Artichoke dip! The servers are always friendly and helpful--love their sushi Plate and the Rib Eye Steak sandwich. Desserts are just plain decadent! Pros: Friendly fast wait staff Cons: Parking can be difficult at times more

best service ...ever 7/28/2006

Jess... tall ...smart and perfect.. his energy is beyond the best...I will refer this place to everyone based on his service and vibe.. more

Great food 6/28/2006

I wasn't a huge fan of this palce the first few times around, but since most people like it I was dragged out against my will...and to my surprise I actually had a change of heart. The food is delicious and there is plenty of it. I always end up order multiple things. Everything is delicious, appetizers, entrees, drinks! Pros: Food and drinks. Cons: Long wait to get in at times. more

Best Kept Secret is the Veggie Burger!!!! 6/27/2006

Houston's is the only restaurant that satisfies my meat loving family and my vegetarian diet. Pros: Veggie Burger, Ambience, Great Bar Cons: long lines after 6:30, can get pricey for a large family more

Always Great, Never had to wait... 6/1/2006

I'm not sure when these other people are going, but we never had to wait... We've been for dinner, and lunch. The food is consistently great and we always look forward to returning. We love the ambience and room booths. It's a great place for a date, for a special meal, or a nice lunch. Highly recommended. Pros: The Food more

i love this place 5/1/2006

  • In Short
Burnished brass and stained wood complement roughly mortared brick and the occasional plant. Amid ubiquitous earth tones, corporate types and small parties (celebrating or simply living large) occupy deep booths done up in fine upholstery and lit from above by pin spotlights. Burgers, prime rib and steaks are the specialties of the house, but the menu also includes salmon, salads, pork chops and roasted chicken.
