Horrible store, too expensive, unprofessional managers 11/9/2008

First of all, for a place of business, the parking is inadequate, poorly kept up, and doesn't establish a very favorable first impression. When I entered, the first thing that I experienced was the smell of mildew and mold. The store is filthy, water-stained, dark, and dingy. Not a good environment for retail. The aisles are too close together, and costumes are all over the floors. Dangerous to walk through even without ten other people in the aisle with you. Sometimes it was very hard to even see what I was looking at. As for selection, if you want to look like a tramp (and spend far too much in the process), they have plenty. Most of their costumes come up past mid-thigh and are very deeply cut in the front. If you're looking for a nice costume suitable for someone above the age of 23 who wants to look respectable (and not spend an arm and a leg), look somewhere else. Hokus Pokus blatantly caters to the drunken college students who cram into the bars downtown on Halloween.\r \r As far as people go, the associates were blatantly unhappy and stressed. I hardly saw one smile at all, and nobody said hello to me. I was surprised (after all, it's a holiday-themed store) until I saw an associate being torn apart on the floor in front of customers by her boss, and just for asking a simple question. Then the boss and his wife got into a yelling match, in front of customers and associates. These people plainly have no idea what ""professional conduct"" is. I couldn't wait to get out of there after I'd finally made my purchases after standing in a long, long line. I am never going back to this location, and I would urge both shoppers and job-seekers to beware! Pros: Great selection for a very small target group Cons: bad lighting, bad parking, filthy store, unprofessional conduct, poor atmosphere, poor attitudes, too adult for families more

Avoid shopping here - Very bad customer service 10/23/2008

Took my daughter to their store thinking I could find her a costume for Trick Treat and wanted to find out what their rentals are like since she has a 10th birthday coming up in December. When I walked into the store, the one person I could see working there walked away quickly and didn't even say hello. So I wandered around for a few minutes and tried to find my daughter a costume. Most of the costumes were either halfway out of their bags or looked like something a street person would wear. I only found one thing that I would allow my daughter to wear, but it was very expensive. I think it was about $35 or something like that? I tried to get someone to show me where the try on rooms were and it took me a few more minutes to find the employee who by this time was hiding in the back talking to some tall man. He was helpful in that he showed me where the room was. I asked if his female associate would be so kind as to help my daughter as I am her Dad and didn't want to embarrass her. When the female employee heard this, she rolled her eyes and then came over, almost yanked the costume out of my hand and went in with my daughter to help her try it on. My daughter ended up not liking the costume, which only made her more irritated. She shoved the costume back in the bag and then threw it behind the counter and didn't offer to help me find anything else. At that point, I could not find the man to ask him anything so I didn't get to inquire about the party rentals. I was very disappointed because I used to shop here all the time and they didn't used to treat people this way in the past. In fact, I remember a very kind elderly lady who was very sweet and she used to be in their store on the other side of town. My daughter remembers her too. This place has really changed for the worst and I won't be taking my business there again. Pros: Used to be a nice place to shop Cons: Bad Customer Service, Prices Very High more

Expensive, more adult oriented products, poor parking 10/10/2008

As compared to other halloween / costume stores in the area, their prices are considerably higher. They do have many costumes, but again they are expensive. For example, a costume that would normally sell for $20 at another store, they're trying to sell for $30. I noticed that many of the costumes were taken out of packages and handled by other people and that's not very sanitary. I would not reccomend taking small children in there as they have a lot of adult costumes. So if you are into that sort of thing you may find something to satisfy your tastes. The location of the store is poor as it's on a busy industrial section of town where traffic is heavy and parking is very bad. You can barely get in and out of the parking lot without almost getting into an accident with another car. Pros: Adult costumes Cons: Bad parking, high prices, not family friendly more
