Completely Overrated 10/21/2010

There are numerous other hotels in the area that are worth your time and money. This place nitpicks everything and expects you to pay for it. $5 for a Vitamin Water? $6 for a bottle of water? You have to be kidding me. The kicker was when I received a bill of $1.50 for a phone call. $1.50!! Go somewhere else that will actually appreciate you during your stay in Chicago. more

Good hotel for conference 6/9/2009

We held a conference here and they were very accommodating, the meeting space we ample and we linked to an underground tunnel full of restaurant and shopped which our attendees loved. more

Prepare to be nickel and dimed 5/12/2009

For a hotel that seems to be going to great lengths to appear ""luxe,"" the Chicago Hilton scrimps on basic ammenities. Come prepared to pay at least an additional $25.00 for day if you want to be all fancy and have internet access. Count on $50.00 to use a treadmill. Don't count on having the correct number of beds on your room. Be prepared for slow elevators, and to have to transfer elevators if you're on the upper floors. Try not to think of how perhaps they could have forgone the TV's in the elevators and instead provided guests with, oh, I dunno, a decent fitness center and internet access. If that's what you're looking for, you should've stayed at a quality inn. Pros: Comfortable beds Cons: Poor value for the money more

Good food - bad customer service 3/13/2009

My coworkers and I stayed Sunday, March 8th - Thursday, March 12th for PITTCON. Upon arrival my co-worker and I were not treated nice by Shawn at the reception desk. We booked our rooms through a travel agent and the agent did not cancel the original reservation for Saturday. This is not Hilton's fault but Shawn treated my co-worker and I like it was all some evil plot against her. Not once did she smile at us and she acted as if the entire event was a burden. Luckily, her supervisor, Sylvia, was pleasant and understanding. I knew that I needed to take up the discrepancy with the travel agent but Shawn was intent on making the process painful. We were then charged a $25 (per room) ""reinstatement fee"" as well as a $20 (per room) early check in fee. Also, internet access is $19.99 per day. I've stayed in all types of hotels... and I've never been charged such a fee. $20 a day for internet is ridiculous. With that being said, Alicia took my breakfast order every evening before I went to bed and she was delightful. The breakfast was wonderful although, again, there was an odd fee. I understand gratuity but then a $5 delivery fee to your room? The cheesburger was EXCELLENT! The quality of the room is average. The total fees I paid, just for my room, for a 3 night stay is $115.00. We definitely will not use this hotel again for PITTCON. It's just not worth it. Pros: Good location for McCormick Place Convention Center Cons: Front Desk Receptionist and fees for EVERYTHING! more

Spacious rooms 11/24/2008

We stayed here on a recent trip to Chicago and took advantage of the nominal charge to upgrade to a suite. It was one of the largest rooms I've stayed in and the bed was ridiculously comfortable. more

Good location, but TERRIBLE service!! 6/21/2008

We stayed one night in June (before Taste of Chicago) as a relaxing retreat to the city. Being from the suburbs of Chicago, and having extensive travel experience, I felt the Hilton was a safe bet and reasonably priced for our one night stay. Pros: Location Cons: stuffy staff, dirty, overpriced more

Beautiful Hotel with high prices 6/5/2008

This really is a beautiful hotel. We have stayed in it several times while attending conferences. That is the catch, when it is on an expense account, it is great. But their prices are just out of line for out-of-pocket travelers (I think expense accounts are their market). It isn't the room rates that are so shocking, but rather the food, alcohol, extras. $4 for 8 ounces of milk (a small carton like you would get at a school cafeteria), $4 for a small bottle of soda (mini bottle). $15 for a appetizer of 3 medium shrimp. All fine if you dont have to pay for it (we didn't luckily), but insane if you have to. Otherwise, its a very nice hotel. The staff is so polite and helpful at every interaction. And the rooms are comfortable (although we only ended up with a view once, sadly). The food is just ok, honestly. Maybe a small step above standard hotel food. Overall its a really nice place to stay, as long as you can avoid having to pay for all the extras. Pros: Beautiful, comfortable, great staff!, wonderful views in some rooms Cons: cost for beverages/food/extras more

Historic Beauty! 11/16/2006

This hotel offers a great value for visitors. It is very charming and historic. Close to Millenium Park. Pros: Good value-very historic more

Excellent Hotel 7/12/2003

This hotel was outstanding. Every employee we encountered was extremely friendly and helpful. Very comfortable room, clean, cared for. The location for sightseeing is very good. I would stay there again in a second. Easy access for cabs, subway etc. Pros: Excellent service, clean, location Cons: Expensive restaurants more

My new favorite 6/4/2003

I dont know if I can say enough about how much fun we had at this hotel. It was a smaller sized room (king bed) but it had large windows, a view, a great bed, many payperview movies, great room service, a nice amout of storage for suitcases and cloths, overall a great room. The staff was absolutly the best. Everyone of them was friendly, helpful and seemed to be doing their best. I had an occasion to talk to a few of them and they had all reported working at the hilton for 10 to 20 years. I think that says alot about how the hilton must treat their employees. The area the hotel is in is wonderful. In walking distance to many wonderful places. But if you need a cab, all you need to do is walk out the front door and the doorman will get you one. Pros: Great Staff, Near food/shopping, Grand Style Cons: smoking in lobby, expensive more

Nice POlace on Michigan Ave 8/19/2002

A nice Hotel on Michigan Ave. Open Lobby and Plenty of food. Beautiful ballrooms and a nice group of people. I really enjoyed our time at the Chicago Hilton. Close to Grant park we could attend the festival and not have to walk far to rest up for a night out. Close to our favorite food place Trader Vic's. A Lovely place! Pros: clean, friendly, fun more

Quite simply, the best social and corporate ballroom space in town. more

1,000's of Women's needs met. 7/18/2002

I stayed at the Hilton during the Women of Faith conference July 12-13. Twelve of us stayed in 3 rooms and we couldn't have asked for better accommodations. The hotel was beautiful, the staff were pleasant and helpful and the valet timely. There were thousands of women at the hotel wanting their needs met at the same time and the Chicago Hilton met them. I've been to national conferences with a Direct Selling company and have seen the best and worst. The Chicago Hilton ranks with the best. Pros: Clean/comfortable, Attentive, Relaxing Cons: Ice out of order, expensive vending, no bathroom exhaust more

Beautiful! 7/14/2002

We stayed at the Chicago Hilton during the Taste of Chicago. What a beautiful hotel. We asked for and received a room with a view of the lake and park. Our room was spotless and everything readily available. We took advantage of their Bounceback Weekend offered which included the full breakfast each morning of our stay. It was delicious! We also took advantage of the free shuttle down Michigan Ave. The driver was very nice and eager to answer any and all questions. We will definitely stay here again. Pros: Reasonable rates, Close to everything, Simply stunning more

Nice 6/27/2002

Hilton sure does it right. I haven't stayed in any of the other area Hiltons, but the one on Michigan Ave. is great. Plenty to do in the area, shoppping, bars, museums, etc. The location makes it. You can expect typical Hilton top notch service and amenities. more
