I absolutely love this place! My dad and I have been coming here since I was about eleven years old, and I have continued to go here ever since. My dad has been to many different countries, and different parts of the United States for his job and he always orders sushi wherever he goes. He says that this is one of the best sushi places he has been to because all of the fish is very fresh and although the prices are not the best, they are definitely reasonable. There are always new and delicious items on the menu to try, and the specials are extremely good. Their rainbow roll and their crazy roll are very very good. I have been to more ""high-end"" restaurants with a worse quality of sushi. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who likes sushi or Japanese food in general. more

I've been to this restaurant several times both on my own and with friends, and the sushi has always been fresh, delicious, and relatively reasonably priced. The daily specials are fun and varied. Being Filipina-American, I was a little worried after reading the review regarding the offensive racial comments, but thankfully no funny business has showed up on my receipts. I hope they learned something from the poor review they got previously. I like to try as many sushi places around here as possible and keep coming back here. It's not a large sushi place, it's actually small and gets packed in the evenings. The ambiance is cozy. Their fish is fresh, nigiri and maki is good, sushi selection is good (no toro though!), service is good most of the time. They like to give special attention to repeat customers. Their rainbow rolls and spicy tuna rolls are excellent. They also have cooked food on the menu for non-sushi eaters. Their prices are about average to below average for sushi restaurants around here in Lake County, and much cheaper than ones in Chicago. Well worth the price! If you want to eat good sushi and don't expect to enter a very fancy/hip place like the ones you see in Chicago, you'll enjoy Hayashi. Pros: not expensive, good sushi, good variety more
