Hawk Mountain Sanctuary Assn

Fall is here and it is the best time to go to Hawk Mountain, Pennsylvania and see the raptures. We go every October and take the hike to see the Hawks and other raptures fly in. It is such a great day. The conservatory keeps count daily of how many hawks and other raptures are spotted. They list each species and change the number as Spotting are reported. There are so many bird watchers and nature lovers at the site which is at the top of a mountain over looking a valley which is still virgin mountain side. The raptures come flying in and with all the open sky you really get a good look. The hike through the woods is exhilarating and beautiful. It rained one year and the forest is so dense we didn't get wet until we were near the perimeter of the forest. A good place to hike but be prepared for some strenuous terrain here. We were expecting something a little more "level" and found there were quite a few challenging rocky areas. We also did not realize that it is not free to hike here. You must first pay a small fee (thank goodness they take credit cards) for each person. The views are quite nice though and they have an overlook where you can go to see hawk sightings (hence the name). more
