My husband takes me to this resturaunt for our anniversary every year. Super elegant and fantastic cusine. Love the atmosphere and the one on one interaction from the waitstaff....

We went to the Haunted House after seeing it portrayed as the most romantic restaurant in OKC. Unfortunately, the premises needs a great deal of maintenance, and the interior has ...

Fun! 8/28/2009

The atmosphere and environment are great...the menu is just okay. The food is good, but nothing fancy. But the atmosphere & staff make up for the lacking food. The owner is also the hostess/cocktail waitress. She's a gem! This is a must-do for locals! more

Cheap food but expensive bill 6/20/2009

My wife and I decided to go because it sounded like a good place to explore. I should have gone to the grocery store instead. We spent $60+ for the equivalent of a $2 microwave dinner. They did not even give you bread. We got saltine crackers with butter! Pros: Very nice atmosphere; way back in the woods, name fits it. Cons: I don't think it is even haunted, just a lame story. more

Neat story-OVERLY priced! 3/23/2009

I was extremely disappointed with this restaurant. I was so excited to finally be able to experience it. The location was interesting as well as the story behind it. As for the food and drinks- i had the Filet Mignon and baked potatoe, the potatoe was burnt and the salad (which was extra) was more like a Bag o salad. Since it was my birthday they brought us a cupcake to share that was very bland and tasted old. For two people and 2 alcohoic beverages our tab was 115.00 (not including the tip). The only thing I can say was that our server was very pleasant other than that, my experience was very dissapointing. I would NOT recommend this place. Pros: service Cons: price, food, more

We had a wonderful experience at this nostalgic dinner house! 10/22/2008

Being an Oklahoma transplant has been a complete trip for me, but let me tell you of a unique dining experience! It was my birthday, and I had been whining about all of our evenings involving the same four eateries when WHAM!,........(2of our 4 have lived here for 35 years to life and one has been to this establishment before).......got the picture? What a wonderful surprise this birthday was! Not only did I get to go on line to try to solve a CSI unsolved but I also got to experience the kind of dinner house dining I worked as a student in California in the 70's, and let me tell you, if you want good food from tested recipes at todays prices, you can't go wrong....!!! And I say this mostly because orange roughy was not readily available when I waited tables and cooked for a living, but dinner houses were!!!!!!Quiet atmosphere, red naughahyde, whatever the chair that is actually comfortable enough to spend an evening was and the sheer attentiveness of a staff that really cares to make sure that if you want to enjoy your evening with this HOUSE they are there with you! The food is phenomenal, the service, great; the sauces;TIMELESS! Try to repeat these dishes at home and get them in this atmosphere!!! You won't!! We recomend this OKC Dinner house for it's tradition, good food, and great service!! If you want a great evening in a wonderously quiet atmosphere with the best that DINNER HOUSE can offer, TRY AND POST!!! We were back tonight! Three days later!! You will never find a better BRANDY ICE, and they have made them the same way for 44 years!! I for one LOVE THIS HOUSE!! more

Beware! This restaurant adds a service charge to every ticket for Prom night! 5/5/2008

My son, his girlfriend and another couple went here Saturday night before their Prom. When each couple received their check there was a $10 charge on the ticket, when my son asked what the charge was he was told it was a service charge because of the Prom. The waiter used the terminology ""service charge"" not gradituity, so my son and his friend left a tip. I called the restaurant to confirm if they were adding a service charge and she said they did, I asked her if it was on top of a gratituty and she said that the service charge was the same as a gratituty. I told her no one calls a gratituty a service charge and was told that's what it was. I suggested she should have informed the kids when they made the reservations since they were up front with her and told her they were coming before the Prom. She told me they do it because the kids don't leave enough in tips. That may be the case but most of these kids go to dinner with their parents and are well aware of what tipping is. If they were concerned about the staff not making enough they shouldn't accept reservations from these kids. The restaurant was well aware it was prom night. I feel as though the restaurant saw an opportunity to take advantage of these kids so they took it. Needless to say, the kids won't be returning before next years Prom and we will never eat their again. I would imagine my son won't forget this episode as an adult and will choose to patron a restaurant more friendly to establishing a long term relationship with him and his future family! more

Unique experience 2/22/2008

I really liked the fact that that The Haunted house is secluded, down a dark road and a very unique atmosphere. Plus we had great service. The salad we ordered, however, which does NOT come with the meal was awful. There was brown lettuce and soggy stale croutons. YUCK! I ordered the garlic shrimp pasta, which was wonderful, and my husband ordered a steak, which was not bad, but not the best. It was our anniversary and our waitress brought us a little cupcake to share for dessert. It was nice. I did overall enjoy the experience and would probably go back. Pros: Very cool spot, not like your usual ""chain"" restaurant, great service Cons: Some of the food is not worth the price more

What a charming evening 2/17/2008

I was surprised to see the negative reviews of this charming establishment. I would say that this place is not for you if you consider 45 minutes at Olive Garden,Red Lobster and other bigbox places fine dining. The place makes you feel as if you are a guest at an old English Manor. The service was excellent. The closeness of the tables was fun. We met a lovely couple and and had fun chatting. The food was great. The limited menu helps with quality control. The value was extrodianary. 73 bucks at Johnny Carinos or 98 at a one of a kind experince. Its a no brainer to us. more

Food was great...Ambiance needs much improvement... 6/28/2007

We went to the Haunted House after seeing it portrayed as the most romantic restaurant in OKC. Unfortunately, the premises needs a great deal of maintenance, and the interior has a strong, unpleasant musty odor. The chairs were repaired with plastic red tape. Our hostess quickly brushed a large black insect off the cloth tablecloth on our table. Not an auspicious start for our 26th anniversary dinner. Pros: Food was well prepared Cons: Musty smell, poorly maintained premises and furnishings, insect on table upon arrival more

hauntingly disappointing 4/2/2007

I was very excited to eat at a haunted house, but the experience was a bit of a let down. I must begin by saying the service was good, the cut of steak was lean, and the wild rice was great, but other than that, I am short on complements. When we entered, I immediately noticed an elderly crowd and most everybody was at a whisper. There were other open tables, but we were seated in a corner, right next to another couple. We tried to avoid overhearing each others conversation, but that was hopeless. Then a very, very loud child was seated at the other table nearest us and there went our night away from the kids. This restaurant was obviously meant to be romantic, but they've lost the romance. There was no wine list (not that I'm a connoisseur), but the wine was served by the glass (the apx $8 glass) and it wasn't very good. For the money, I expect a restaurant to have a little more atmosphere and not serve a basket of crackers as I begin the meal. Also, we called and left a message so that we could express our concern to the owner (to improve the experience for others), but we never got a call back. For a 2 person meal costing more than $100, we expect the whole experience to be high quality, not just the cut of steak. Pros: entersting story behind the restaurant Cons: price, ambiance, limited wine selection more

Romantic atmosphere 11/9/2006

This is a nice place for a special celebration. It's very, very secluded - call for directions. Haunted House is an old house, quite worn at the edges, small intimate rooms, white tablecloths, etc. They have a decent selection of good wine and very good steak. The menu is limited though. I highy recommend a dessert that consists of cake layered with apricot spread, cream, and almonds. I don't remember what it's called. Pros: Intimate atmosphere Cons: Uneven service (not rude, but slow at times) more

The Haunted House 4/4/2006

The Haunted House is tucked away near 63rd and MLK. When you call to make reservations they give you directions. Legend has it that there was some sort of death in the house years ago and the ghosts still haunt the house to this day. They have a little card that tells of the house's history, but the servers can tell you with a little more spunk. There are rooms in the house just like the original with bathrooms up the creaky staircase. The food is good, but a bit pricey. I always felt as though I was paying for the ambiance as much as anything. I do have to admit though, they did have a nice man that answered the phone years ago and greeted you at the door. He had that great Adam's family voice. His name was Art, but he has since passed away. He added some to the whole effect. more

Talk about classy! 11/11/2005

My husband takes me to this resturaunt for our anniversary every year. Super elegant and fantastic cusine. Love the atmosphere and the one on one interaction from the waitstaff. I would highly recommend this resturaunt for any special occasion. more

Neat atmosphere 10/28/2005

Just by the name I thought this was going to be a great experience. The food was marginal though. The atmosphere is very nice but I wished it had lived up to my expectations. They are a bit pricey too. more

Good Atmosphere But That Is It 9/8/2004

This place is very cute and romantic. Their food and service is not very good. The menu is tiny and the service was pretty bad. I would only go here for the atmosphere. Pros: Remote, Quaint, Romantic Cons: , Bad Food, Bad Service more
