Didn't do it for me too long waiting periods 2/15/2012

The long waiting periods in this store were just the beginning of the problems. I had the chicken shredded sandwich with alot of spices which also had hot pepper sauce. I don't think the sandwich was made properly because as I was trying to eat it food and spices were falling out. My insides felt burned with all those spices they put in didn't agree with me and neither did waiting 30 min for my order on a Monday afternoon. I wont be coming back. more

not happy with this spot 1/23/2012

Hanco's does OK with deliveries when it comes to inside service a real disappointment. I waited way too long for my order it was a simple pork sandwich. The bubble tea tasted really stale for me. The young lady behind the counter let me switch to Vietnamese coffee since I couldn't stand the tea which I was OK with, but the coffee wasn't fresh at all it was cold. I think it would be better to stick to delivery when I go to my friends place to hang out in the heights sorry about that. more

just another fast food joint with long waits 1/6/2012

I don't know what certain people see in this store? It is just another fast food joint, not only that there are long lines and the Vietnamese sandwich made me and my mom sick cant believe we walked from Carrol gardens just to try this place need I say more about the 45 min wait we had. more

Not what I expected. 12/16/2011

I tried to give this store a few chances to develop but didn't really fly at all. I had to wait on two different lines one for a number and the second for my food. I was starving by the time they finished everything. It is a very slow kind of service. It took an hour for everything to get done, tried calling for delivery the week afterwards the lines were tied up for 20 min sorry not coming back. more

intollerable fast food experience 12/12/2011

I never heard of a system where you have to wait on two lines one for a number and another for the food and you half to pay in advance. The lines were really long and the bubble tea tasted terrible. You figure they would move a little faster but not quite. I wouldn't recommend this store its runned badly. more

feel like a long wait at the doctors office 12/2/2011

I happen to agree with a few of the other reviewers. The wait during the lunch hour is ridicules. I only have an hour for my break and that's how long I waited for my order. There are at least 5 people behind the counter and it doesn't seem to help. They also messed up my order that really made me want to leave sorry wont be coming back. more

Intolerable prefer the 350 7Ave location anytime in Brooklyn 10/7/2011

This store turned out to be intolerable went to meet up with a friend for lunch at 1 this afternoon there were only 5 people in front of us, we waited 10 min to get a card and sit in a waiting room for over 30 min. I don't understand what happened. My understanding is when you open a second store in a new area your supposed to be on the alert. The pork sandwich tasted terrible couldn't finish it. I really couldn't stand the service here too slow would rather go to the park slope location instead on 7 ave much better service and food, got really annoyed took the train from sunset pk to try the second store out and it turned out to be a big travesty. more

I live on their food! 10/26/2009

My husband and I are totally addicted to the coconut bubble tea! I love the spicy shredded chicken sandwiches. I had pneumonia last year and had food delivered every 2 days, they were so good to me!! Now I am pregnant, they are often the only food I can stomach. Only improvement would be wheat bread, which I once asked the owner for, but he said it wasn't traditional - fair enough! As everything is made to order - which I completely prefer - it can take a while and the staff turnover is pretty high. They are ALWAYS packed too, never once been in when there were not people waiting, not matter what time of day. Congrats, awesome food. Pros: Coconut bubble tea Cons: White bread only more

not going anywhere for a while ? 3/9/2008

don't go here. i have been here several times and always waited for what seemed like forever. the last time i went in early afternoon, i waited 40 minutes for one sandwich and finally asked for my money back and left. Only one person makes ONE sandwich at a time. There must have been 6 or 7 people behind the counter and only one person makes sandwiches. I watched him make the same five sandwiches one at a time. if you have five separate orders for the same sandwich, why not make all five at once ? these people do not have a clue on how to manage and run a resturant. Oh and the Banh Mi is very medeocre. There is no reason to go here when all of the competition is better. Pros: there are none Cons: indiferent employees. hour wait for a sandwich more

an hour-long wait for one sandwich-DONT GO HERE! 8/2/2007

hanco's is a nightmare there are always 10-12 people behind the counter, but nobody seems to be working. you have to be really pushy just to get someone to take your order. otherwise they ignore you. i ordered ONE sandwich at 3:00 in the afternoon when it was dead quiet . 45 minutes later i'm still waiting! The only other customer had waited an hour. If you ask if it's ready, they just say "10 minutes". Finally after an hour the other customer and i asked for our money back and left, hungry as hell and having wasted an hour of our day! So i go to Nicky's which is 3 blocks a way- they are super nice, they had ONE person working, and they served the sandwich in 2 minutes. Also- they are a little cheaper and the bread is crispier. I will NEVER go back to Hanco's- it's always filled with people waiting for their food- nobody is ever eating. The other posts that say they are disorganized and slow are from A YEAR ago, so obviously it's not going to improve. Go to nicky's- it's the original anyway. hanco's belongs to an employee that defected. Pros: food is good, but soooo NOT worth an hour wait... Cons: always terrible service, hour-long wait for one little sandwich more

Absolutely Addictive 10/22/2006

It's true that they're not fast, but the kitchen is spotless, the room is comfortable, the service is nice, and the food (and coffee) is delicious, inexpensive, and well worth any wait. more

the best sandwich takes time 8/25/2006

super great! but... how many people does it take to make a Hanco's sandwich? i understand that they are made with TLC... but fast take out this is not. 10 to 20 minute wait for a sandwich... what are they doing back there? as soon as you start thinking this is ridiculous you get your sandwich, take the first bite... and all is forgiven! fresh french bread, fresh ingredients, just the right spice. perfect vietnamese sandwich. Pros: sandwich Cons: long wait more

Very slow fast food 7/16/2006

The sandwiches are really good: spicy, good quality meat, fresh baguettes, etc. These are just as delicious as Nicky's and other well-established banh mi shops in the city. The problem here is organization and speed of service. The other night I waited for over a half hour for a take-out order of 4 sandwiches. Someone else waited even longer for a smaller order. The food is worth it, but I suggest you order delivery, so that you don't have to read old issues of Robb Report while you wait forever in a small and hot room. Pros: food Cons: service more

Mmmm...Bahn Mi! 6/28/2006

Up there with the best bahn mi in the city. If you want the real deal, just ask for the #1 - be sure to ask for it spicy. This is one of the few places I've found that use proper french rolls. Sandwiches are about a buck more than at other places, but how can you really complain about a $4 sandwich. Another great sandwich can be found on 8th Ave and 43rd St. in Brooklyn. These places both beat any of the sandwiches I've had in chinatown in manhattan. Not that the manhattan ones are bad, these are just better. more

Awesome Drinks 6/21/2006

Some of the most unique and delicious drinks I've ever had. Definately try the fresh limeade and the Vietnamese eggcream. Pros: Food and drinks, value Cons: Place is tiny more

Recommended 4/16/2006

Hanco's sandwiches are fantastic! They just added a vegetarian version (Tofu sandwich) which is execellent! Also must try is their Bubble Teas which are their other specialty. Their Iced Vietnamese Coffee is Awesome too! Recommended if you are into sandwiches, Tea, and Coffee! Pros: Excellent food, Inexpensive, friendly people more

The Food 3/9/2006

Bedecked in pastel hues of orange and green, this tiny restaurant resembles an Easter egg turned inside out. The menu is miniscule too, focusing on bahn mi, the traditional Vietnamese sandwich. It's available in six interpretations, including the classic ground pork recipe, and also in pork chop, grilled pork and chicken, and even sardine versions. Summer rolls and a selection of salads are forthcoming. Teas and coffees come hot and cold, including six types of bubble tea.
