I always tell people that Hampshire College taught me how to quit. If you were in a class you didn't like, or it required too many books or papers, you could just drop out. When I entered in '98 (you see, at Hampshire classes are based on when you enter, because so few graduate in 4 years), you didn't have to take very many classes to graduate. You could cobble together independent studies and a real world job into enough to graduate. And if you really wanted to learn some fundamentals, like computer programming, you could take classed at Amherst, Smith, Mt. Holyoke, or UMass (two of those are all women's schools!). The best thing though is your Division III, or senior thesis project. You get to take a whole to work on a project of your own choice. I designed a boar game and got to graduate for it, but I skipped the graduation ceremony.
