In Short
The windswept picturesque coast just south of San Francisco is a beautiful place for a town--Half Moon Bay--and the eponymous state beach that occupies the shore beneath the coast range mountains that tumble down to the see, interrupted every few miles by ocean-bound streams. Two miles of shoreline offers biking, hiking and horse trails; stables with rentals are nearby. The campsites are one-half mile from the beach.
