Excellent 12/24/2010

We have been going to Hakata for many many years. And will be going tonight on Christmas Eve. The new chef has made many positive changes in the presentation and the food has always been fresh and tasty. more

Amazing! 11/7/2010

Strange combination, Sport's bar and Sushi but probably the best sushi I've ever had. They don't have all you can eat but the Sushi but prices are very resonable and the beer prices are great! For two of us to eat and drink until we were stuffed it was under $40.00! Plus the service is exceptional, super friendly! We came in about 9:30 and they closed at 10, they never once made us feel rushed or uncomfortable, we were getting ready to leave about 10:15 and they were still offering to make us more food! The sushi was probably the best I've ever had and I eat sushi a lot, huge portions of very fresh fish! Check it out you won't be dissapointed. more

Just last Wednesday, I took my entire family to Hakata Sushi, and it became an unexpected, wonderful night. As soon you enter into the restaurant, there is someone that greets you and your entire family, creating a very comfortable, and professional environment. more

Best Sushi Happy Hour! 12/19/2008

My boyfriend and I went to Hakata last night for late night sushi happy hour. We showed up when it started at 9 pm. It goes everyday from 4-7 and then from 9 to close. We had a great experience with both the food and the service while sitting at the bar. We enjoyed $2 Kirin draft beers and $5 large hot sake. The spicy tuna roll, real crab california roll, and albacore sashimi were amazing. The food is all priced around $4, $5, and $6. We had dumplings and calamari (which was cooked in tempura batter) and both were very good as well. The staff was friendly and you can' t beat the quality and price. We will be returning very soon! more

Best Sushi in Santa Monica! 12/15/2008

Yum! I tried Hakata for lunch last Thursday and it was awesome. Really nice service and fun ambiance. Recommend the rainbow roll! The fish tasted fresh and it was very tasty. Their bar also looks like fun for after work. Can't wait to return! Pros: Convenient Location more

Not worth it 11/10/2008

My parents used to love going to this place when they first got married, so I figured my boyfriend and I would try it out since we both love sushi. I was surprised by the mellow atmosphere of this ""sports bar."" We were seated promptly in the nearly empty restaurant, our drink orders were taken right away, although the waiter had to go check if they carried the type of beer I wanted, which they didn't. Our food order was taken, and they were more than happy to accomodate our request to substitute the spicy albacore roll for the california roll that came with the sushi combo entree we ordered. We also ordered seaweed salad and a side of inari. Miso soup and cucumber salad were brought right away, soon followed by thhe inari. The good service stopped there. It took more than 30 minutes for the sushi combo to arrive, even after we asked someone to check on it and were told that it was coming right up. And the waiter had forgotten to bring the seaweed salad. When we reminded him, he brought us what looked like a regular green salad with tomatoes and a little bit of seaweed on top. I told him that there had been a mistake, but was informed that that IS their seaweed salad. One good point is that it wasn't a problem to cancel it. I thought the quality of the sushi was just fine and a generous portion of fish atop the rice. But my boyfriend, who knows more about sushi than I do, thought the quality was all that great. We wrote a note on the receipt that we would not be repeat customers. Pros: relatively quiet for a sports bar Cons: slow service, less than superior sushi more

New Owner is Cheap! 7/24/2006

Hakata was just taken over by new owner. The best sushi chef was fired. Popular SoJU drink discontinued from menu. Certain types of fish discontinued because of price. It's too bad these local haunt is being taken apart. more
