computer error, customer suffers 2/21/2010

Last Tuesday I dined with a companion. She paid her half of the bill in cash, I paid with debit. When I checked my bank account, I had been charged twice, once for my half of the total bill (OK) and once for the entire total of the bill (not OK), so I paid three times for my dinner.\r I was told to bring in the receipt. I did the next morning. The general Manager took the receipt and said he would look into the problem.\r It is now Sunday, and my account has still not been credited, nor have I received a phone call with resolution or an apology.\r It's only $32.43, but wouldn't you think that Gustav's would want to keep a good customer happy and fix the problem?\r I don't understand the attitude.\r Pros: good food Cons: management? more

Fondue and Beer Onion Soup Great! Service....blah 2/6/2010

We've been going here on/off the last 4 - 5 years. I've tried everything and consistently find only the fondue and beer onion soup the best on the menu- that's my review of the food. The service is questionable. They consistently miss side dishes, utensils and drinks. In the last 2 months we've been there three times and each time a mishap occurs with the service. When you complain they swarm in to help but you feel awkward the rest of the evening- not an enjoyable dining experience. The Manager is a good guy who's very professional and handles complaints very well; however, something is wrong with who is managing the service and orders within the kitchen. Perhaps it's time to clean house @ Gustav's in Vancouver? Pros: Nice Manager, very professional guy Cons: Staff is terrible, feel sorry for the Manager more

Great German food 10/22/2009

I love the food and the service is always great at Gustav's in Vancouver. more

Sorry I went 4/5/2009

I've waited a long time to have some of the best fish and chips in town. I know, why go here for F&C's? Because they were the best. NOT NOW!! This was one of the worst meals that we have ever eaten in this area. Soggy, mushy, cold, beer battered halibut. Ratio 1:4 batter over amount of fish found in each piece. Fries were good and fondue excellent. Manager addressed me by mentioning that ""you know you could have ordered them made with panko instead of battered"". Now they frickin' tell me. No offer to correct or any sort of comp, or price reduction. VERY WEAK. Probably will only go back for happy hour. Never dinner again. Pros: Good Fondue, AWFUL MEAL Cons: Awful new fall menu more

Great German Food! 12/26/2008

This restaurant and the chain is a great place authentic German food. Consistently good customer service and only place to get Spaten Beer on tap. One comment, BRING BACK OPTIMATER CAKE! Pros: Great German Food Cons: Bring back Optimater cake - why was this great unique item removed from the menu? more

Happy hour!! 4/17/2008

I LOVE the happy hour here, especially the fondue!! It is amazing and their caesar salad is great too. Service is not always the best as they seem irritated when you order a coke instead of an alcoholic drink but its worth it for that great fondue! Love it. Pros: happy hour pricing Cons: service at those late hours more

USED To be amazing.. all downhill since Dec '05 8/30/2006

This used to be amazing food. I frequented this restaurant at a minimum of once a week! Then one day the staff seemed all new. My meal was dry and roll was literally SOLID! I gave it to the waitress who laughed and said ""This one must have been in the back!"". Hahaha... old bread is funny, I suppose. She got our drink order wrong twice and then gave us four drinks instead of two. She apologized and said that they were on the house if we wanted them. (How much soda pop can you drink?) We asked what was up with the food (it was off to say the least) and she said they had gotten a new chef. We left disappointed and were double billed for the entree we had split. They fixed the bill after approx. 15 minutes of complication and we took it as a sign not to go back. Unfortunately I hadn't learned my lesson... I went back to the restaurant twice in the last year and had very similar experiences... Bad. Expensive ""food. ($35 easy for a meal!) Don't waste your time or your money hoping they will improve! If youre still set on German food support the Gustavs in Clackamas, OR! Pros: Great food in '05! Cons: Loud, Busy, Food isn't prepared well more

EXCELLENT 8/16/2006

THE CORNED BEEF WITH MASH POTATOES WAS THE BEST! OUR WAITRESS WAS VERY KIND AND HELPFUL... \r I ALSO SUGGEST THE SHEPARD'S PIE...MMMMMM Pros: THE FOOD WAS SUPERB Cons: A LITTLE TOO NOISY more

Enjoyable and delectable 3/22/2006

We have been here 3 times and been very happy with everything. We have not been there during a busy time. We will go there again and again as long as it is good. more

Always Incredible! 3/12/2006

Service and Food always great! Cannot say enogh about the great beer and wine selection, as well as the fondue!!! Great place to bring the family. Pros: parking, good value more

Delicious Choices 1/2/2006

We've visited with our family many times and always love the food. The fondue appetizer is scrumptious with sausage, breads, and pretzels. I always love the Bavarian Farmer Schnitzel; the portabello mushroom, feta, & garlic potatoes are a great combination. My husband once thought his chicken was a bit dry but otherwise no complaints. Selections are often seasonal and local, if possible. Service is usually punctual and complete. Gets crowded by 5pm most nights. Pros: tasty & filling, reasonable prices, space for large group Cons: no reservations, occasional long wait more

Salty Food 11/21/2005

I love the atmosphere but the food was awful. We ordered the spartz with chicken, which was very salty that you couldn't eat it. The pork had cold apricot sauce and the mash potatoes were old, dry and salty. When we told the waitress, she stated she would tell the chef. What a waste of $35.00 for two entrees that were not edible. I submitted a comment card via the website. Got a couple of email but nothing noting what the problem was. You might want to ask for samples before ordering. Depending on how the kitchen feels that evening will determine the type of food you receive. I have no desire to return to this restaurant chain. more
