Greystone Inn & Conference Center

My four sisters and I have had annual retreats for nearly 20 years and the Greystone Inn is our favorite! The large, gracious rooms are elegant without being fussy, Leslie (owner/innkeeper) is the perfect blend of truly accommodating without being intrusive, and she provides breakfasts that we have to photograph before we eat! The food at the Greystone is superb and each morning is different. Some days we don't even eat lunch, we've had such a feast at breakfast. We feel like queens when we stay at the Greystone! more

This place is amazing. What a perfect fit for anyone bringing somebody from out of town to show them Durham. I stayed recently, had a meeting and a dead battery. The owner handed me her car keys at had my car fixed by the time I returned. I wanted special places to eat and I had print outs of the menus and reviews of the places, atmospheres, prices and dress. It was like having an personal escort without loosing my privacy. I even had glucose intolerent breakfasts. Durham at its finest. more

It was so quiet there - to be right in downtown. The innkeeping staff could not have been more helpful with recommendations reservations and even transportation. Beautifully done old home with amazing breakfasts. A place to really get a feel for Durham and the old south. Pros: Owners Dedicated to Durham and Guests Cons: Didn't want to leave more

I recently had a reception at Greystone and stayed overnight. As a previous poster mentioned, there is some noise from traffic, however not enough for a distraction. There where too many other things that kept my and my guest's attention...the great company of family & friends, a beautiful venue rich in history, not to mention the hospitality received and the ginormous (is that even a word???) gourmet breakfast served. The beautiful venue, the history and the hospitality we received makes any event or stay at Greystone well worth it! Pros: A beautiful venue, hospitality, comfortable sleeping rooms more

I had my wedding and reception at Greystone last year. I'd like to rate my experience with 2.5 stars out of 5. If I had to do it over, I'd probably pick a different place. Like a previous poster, I found the owner hard to communicate with. And I felt that when she did answer e-mails, she didn't address all the questions. Also, she told me that she would be at my wedding to assist with the flow of things and she would ""take care of me"". And when the day came, it turns out she left during the wedding/reception! The house and yard are pretty during the right time of year - our guests loved the house. However, I'd have to tell brides not to get married at Greystone - the street in front of the house is just too loud with passing cars and I know the most of our guests couldn't hear (even with our mics). The boom of music from passing cars is all we hear in our wedding video! The area of town is not nice - large abandoned buildings within walking distance. Our reception was indoor/outdoor and worked well (and people had fun) although I wouldn't have an event with more than 80 people. Also, music must stop at 10pm. I think it is too expensive for what it is. The fees don't include any rentals - tables, chairs, linins, etc --- you have to rent everything through other vendors. Overall, it's too much hassle. The owner's attention to details and our needs was really amazing. Always available but not intrusive. Hostesses were so nice and easy to work with. They made our weekend with their organic herbs added to an incredible breakfast. I would stay here anytime I could. The owner arranged our food, transportation and suggested activities for us and our friends. The feel of complete solitude so close to everything was amazing in this 1910 treasure of a house. The house is beautiful and the location is great but the owner and her assistant are possibly the most unprofessional unpleasant people in the world. I had my wedding there and from the beginning it was extremely hard to get a hold of them and everything you asked them something they acted as if you were bothering them. They do not return phone calls for weeks and said all they would do they day of is stay upstairs and call the cops if the wedding gets out of hand. There was no personal touch... The day before the wedding there were 2 huge holes on the deck and they did not want to fix them for my wedding they wanted to cover them with rugs. The flowers in the front of the house were dead and they did not want to replace them for the wedding even though we were getting married on the stairs. The wedding ended up beautiful due to the fact that we had a coordinator, a great caterer and a fabulous florist. After the event the owner would not give us our deposit back and cussed out my Dad. DO NOT HAVE YOUR EVENT OR WEDDING HERE unless you want months of unpleasant meetings and unneeded stress! more

We stayed here because our friends were having their wedding reception there. We flew in from chicago and stayed at the Inn for two nights. We absolutely loved our stay and their southern hospitality was very generous. The owners were very nice and our room was so relaxing. We had balcony access to the gorgeous grounds, I highly recommend the balcony. It was one of our favorite aspects of our room. The breakfast was also excellent. If we ever come back to this area, we would stay here again. Pros: Unique House and experience with amazing views Cons: a little on the expensive side but worth it more

What an amazing place. The unique history as it relates to Durham just added to the experience. The breakfast was awesome and the personalized touches to our stay made us feel like we were in our own home. I was fearful of the ""Bed and Breakfast "" conotation, but this is not your normal bed and breakfast. Private, quiet and lovely. Luxury Accomodations and a real find in Durham, North Carolina. We were among the first guests at Greystone B&B, and we felt so well taken care of. Kind of like having your own private mansion. We had beautiful formal dinners in the dining room, but were able to be casual as well. We had a private family wedding there, and it was the perfect place for that. There was a lot of flexibility for meals -- unusual for a B&B. more
