Fancy Restaurant with no real flavor 9/29/2005

Being Vietnamese, I was excited to try out this Vietnamese restaurant in Bethesda. Boy was I disappointed. The Shaky beef had more vegetables in it than Beef. Also note, Real shaky beef does not contain potatoes. I believe they tried to put potatoes in to make it look like a large portion of beef. Also, since it was a tiny location, i can't help but feel rushed by the staff, as they were trying to rush us out so they can bring in more business. I would have to say that if you want authentic Vietnamese food, The Green Papaya is not the place to go. more

so-so 9/8/2005

i really didnt like the food at the green papaya but the decor was amazing.i had a chicken dish and i didnt like it at all. it is in the heart of bethesda and right near everything so it is very convinient. the wait is never very long and i will definately go back to try another dish to see if it was only a bad dish that i got and not the whole menu. more

Excellent Vietnamese food 8/26/2005

The Green Papaya serves amazing Vietnamese food. The decor is great- behind the bar is a "waterfall" coming down the wall. The service is always fast and friendly. I recommend the carmelized duck and any of the noodle dishes. The soup is great too. The best part is the value- it's really inexpensive for a Bethesda restaurant. The ambiance is much nicer than Tara Thai or Austin Grill, but it's about the same price range. The restaurant is about 3 blocks from the Bethesda metro. The area has a lot of restaurants, bars, coffees shops, and a movie theater, so it's a nice place for a night out. more
