The slopes of the Hubbard River provide a home for Granville State Forest?a dense forest with few visitors.
On the slopes above the river, the forest is largely mature hemlocks with almost no ground cover. The terrain is exceptionally steep and a little too challenging for many with dozens of ridges and ravines draining to the river.
There are two campgrounds with a total of 40 sites, three miles of hiking trails and a stream and small pond for swimming. Hunters may find deer, snowshoe hare, grouse and woodcock. Trout is stocked in season.
Snowmobiling is allowed on 11 miles of unplowed roads.
