I am a retired Foreign Service employee and was still going overseas on temporary duty after I retired. I was so lucky to find Granbar Kennels. My dogs have been boarding there for many years now - at times boarding for as long as three months at a time while I was overseas.Mrs. Giulini always kept in touch while i was out of the country to let me know how my pets were doing. They loved it there. and I would never board them anywhere elseGranbar is the epitomy of what a boarding kennel should be. Clean, airconditioned kennels, a loving staff - most of whom have been employed there for many years - lots and lots of love given to all the pets in their care, and I could not recommend it more highly. more

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we had to board our dog for over a year and we chose Granbar Kennels because of their excellent reputation and wonderful facility. When I picked her up this week she was in such wonderful condition, both physically and psychologically, I could not thank Granbar enough for the excellent care they had given my dog while we were away. Granbar was like a second home to her and I can whole heartedly recommend Granbar Kennels for all pet care. more

I went out of town for the weekend and had nowhere to leave my lab. A friend had recommended their services to me so I gave them a try. I loved the service I received. The staff was very friendly and my dog seemed to like them very much. That was suprising because he's usually difficult with strangers. My friend had told me that they seem to really love animals and would be able to handle him. I definately recommend. more

I travel a lot for my job and have found just the place to take my Boston terrier, Pepper... Pepper gets treated like a special guest, they even have turkey for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. There is also play time each day so your dog doesn't just sit and do nothing. The place is spotless, there is piped in ""classical music"" in the cat room and lots more goodies. If anyone reading this has a dog(s) or cat(s) don't hesitate to put them in the care of Gran-bar Kennels, it is sort of like a motel for animals, great. more

We've taken several dogs to this location for grooming and boarding. They do great with both services. If you board your pet here over a holiday weekend, they'll even offer to feed your furry family member a special holiday meal! more

They charge to pick up on Sunday. So, I guess no one is there with the dogs on Sunday. Im pretty sure they haven't changed anything since the late 70's. dirty! I should have known not to leave my dog at a place next to a house from a horror movie. The staff was rude. Its expensive compared to other very nice kennels. Pros: NONE Cons: not enough room to list all more

Glad I found Granbar. 5/13/2009

When I am out of town (which is quite often) I always take my dog, Pepper, to Granbar Kennels, which is virtually a "home away from home". Each animal is treated as if it is the only one there and immediately feels comfortable being there. This place is spotless, the employees are super helpful and knowledgeable. There is even piped in classical music throughout the kennel..No dog is left sitting aimlessly around all day - they have play time and large areas in which to exercise. Peggy Giulini, the owner, has years of judging and training experience and this shows in the way that her kennel is run. I am so happy that I found such a great place to leave my dog. Pros: Real pet lovers more

Best Kennels 5/13/2009

My pets have been going to Granbar Kennels for many years. I am a retired Foreign Service Officer and worked TDY's for several years after retiring. I was so happy to find Granbar. My dogs would often stay there for several months at a time while I was overseas. The owner, Mrs. Giulini was always wonderful to me and kept me informed by personal letter while I was overseas, as to how my dogs were doing. When I returned I found two happy, clean, well groomed poodles. I still go there very often and it is a wonderful "hotel" for pets. I know my pets will not be exposed to strange dogs while I am there, and I know that places where the dogs are all put in together - eventually there will be a dog fight. There is no worry about this at Granbar. The staff are excellent about giving personal attention to all the "guests" there, and the playtimes with the staff are fun for all. All you have to do is look at the faces of the pets shown on the website to see how happy the pets are to be there. Pros: everything Cons: none more

Huge Disappointment 11/17/2008

My 4 cats have always stayed at Granbar Kennels & have been happy until the last visit I tried numerous times to contact the owner with no success, so unfortunately, this review will be bad. I have brought comforters for my cats to lay on in the past and this time, I was notified at the drop off time that those were no longer allowed because quote: "They tear up her washers." (Funny. They don't tear up my household washer.) Well first and foremost, our comforters were never EVER cleaned when we have used Grandbar in the past. Because I knew this ahead of time, I brought an extra comforter for Grandbar to swap out because I knew that one of my cats would probably wet on it. My cats are very low maintenance and like to hide under the cover of something from home. One of the male felines is 12 years old and has a bad back, so I know he needs extra padding. The worker said she would put a few extra blankets in each cage. (We used 2) One for the boys and one for the girls. Of course, this never happened because when I picked them up, there was this tiny shred of thin material of ONE so-called "blanket" in each cage. Stupid me, I left an instruction sheet that said that one of my cats would wet, so they withheld water for the 4 nights my cats stayed there. She was urinating plasma when I got her home and all four cats went through 2 bowls of water immediately when they got home. My cats were terrified to say the least and because they had nothing to hide under and nothing to lay on, my 17 pound cat and 12 pound cat had to be peeled out of ONE 12 X 12 inch cubby hole box. YES! 29 pounds of cat total in ONE 12 X 12 cubby! I don't know what I paid for because we brought our own food and they put ONE CUP of litter in this tiny pan. Obviously, they didn't have anything to clean up because my cats didn't have any water! We will never recommend Grandbar ever again and we will never go back. Pros: They check for fleas. Cons: Insensitive and uncaring. more

home away from home 8/19/2008

I feel so comfortable leaving my dog at Granbar. Especially now that they have no charge for bringing your own food in pre-portioned baggies. This makes me feel safe. I have a strict diet for my dog, due to health problems, and they stay so aware of those things. I know my dog is getting my idea of amount of food and his meds, which they are extremly cautious about. For an additional charge (small, yet reasonable) the owner who lives on the property will come and give an 11pm med if needed. I never worry while he stays at Granbar. He is in loving hands there for being a kennel, realisticly. Because, no where is like his home. But that is his home away from home. Pros: These are pet people =) more

If You Do Not Care About Your Dog 9/5/2007

I would not take my dog, recommend Granbar, or let anyone friend or foes take their animal to this place. The dogs are kept in small to medium crates for what seems to be the duration of the day and I am sure the evening. If you would like for your dog to receive any type of exercise you must pay a fee for them to be taken out by themselves to play in a very small and confided space, this is what they refer to as the agility pen (what a joke)! I repeat they do not receive any exercise unless you pay for it, whereas other places it is simply included in the cost. Ironically enough the cost for Granbar and much nicer places are relatively the same. In regards to food you are fined for bringing in your own. Any vet will tell you this is detrimental to your pet's health and stomach; how can you be sure of what they are feeding them and how often. This is the most insane thing I have ever heard! The places where the dogs are kept are cramped, loud, and drafty. It is up to the staff to let them out for potty breaks, they may not come and go as they please. There are much better kennels you should look into before resorting to Granbar. Pets are meant to be family members, and I am hoping no one out there would subject a family member to this type of treatment. Pros: Cannot think of a single one! Cons: Too many to list, please see review! more
