The office staff was rude and unhelpful. I had just moved to LA when I heard from my previous gyno that my pap was abnormal and I needed a colposcopy ASAP. I originally scheduled a colp with Dr. Gonzalez's office for the next week, but with my insurance running out (and I was paying for COBRA), they found time to schedule me the next day instead. However, I explained that I was still on my period, but that it was ending and there was just light spotting. Was that okay? The office said sure, light spotting would be fine. But once Dr. Gonzalez started the colp she said it was NOT okay because what's light spotting to me was still fairly heavy bleeding to her. She couldn't do the colp, and they scheduled me for another appointment.
Now, I don't have a job and I only kept my $500-a-month COBRA insurance because I was scared of what the abnormal pap could mean. I was furious that I just paid a $25 office co-pay for an office visit that turned out to be a waste of time. I asked if I had to pay another $25 next time since I didn't receive the service they had scheduled me for. The receptionist rudely said, ""You still got to see the doctor, right?"" ""Yes, but she didn't do the colp, and there's no way I would have come in had I known she couldn't do it."" She said, ""I told you only light spotting was okay."" I said, ""Yes, but you never said that what was light spotting to ME was NOT light spotting to the doctor."" She said only, ""You still have to pay,"" ending the conversation.
I feel the office staff should have known better, or at least acknowledged that I had a point. They should have known that a colp shouldn't be performed unless the period is absolutely over instead of wasting my time and money. And they shouldn't have made me feel like the whole thing was my fault when they themselves told me to go ahead and come in. Since I had to pay another $25 anyway, I went with another doctor.
Pros: She seemed knowledgeable
Cons: Her staff is horrible
