Gloria'z is a Great place 11/1/2010

This is a fun place for a group meeting - ask for the all you can eat taco and nacho bar!! It's a big hit with kids' sports teams. They also have great burgers and sandwiches. I've been there many times over this past year and have always had great service and food. Gloria is a wonderful supporter of the local schools, too which makes this a plus for the local fanilies. more

Fun neighborhood pub 5/24/2010

My husband and I have been going to Gloria'z since soon after they opened and we go once or twice a week. It's a great place to be with neighbors and meet new people, the food is delicious and the service warm and friendly. Dean and Gloria are great hosts and are there to greet guests all the time. I've read some reviews that are partial to the previous owners of the Old Mill Cafe and very unfair to Gloria'z. it's apparent to me that these mean responses were made by friends of said previous owners. To use the word ""hate"" is not only weird it's cruel!! If the Old Mill was such a great place why are they out of business?? Pros: homey and fun atmosphere great hosts more

Why? 4/23/2010

As a previous poster's title mentioned, ALL of the reviews save for mine and the two below are for The Old Mill Cafe, which is what this restaurant used to be called under different ownership. That means Gloria'z gets three 1 star votes. The Old Mill was tremendously fantastic (yes, that good) and this place is a serious let down in comparison to what it used to be. The owner doesn't care about you.. she'd rather watch the game. The service is mediocre at best. No smiles. Barely any chat.. a few nods when taking orders. It's like a bar full of sports zombies. Now, I know that could be construed as a good thing, being that it is now some type of sports bar, but wouldn't you expect to find some sort of LIFE in that? It's just dull.. and lifeless. As is the food. As are the people. As is the Wal-Mart little boys' aisle decor. Pros: I.. just.. *sigh* Cons: Bad atmosphere, bad service, bad food. :( more

Reviews are for the old place.. Old Mill Cafe 4/23/2010

This used to be the only place in the neighborhood to get good food. It was called the Old Mill Cafe and Bakery, then, owned by Bob and Debbie. They moved on (dammit!) and someone renamed it ""Gloria'z"" ... with a Z. Really. The food sucks, the atmosphere is horrible.. which is a shame for such a historical building. Worst transformation - and worst food - EVER. I hate you, new owner. Pros: none. Cons: Horrible food, 12-year-old sports curtains decorating .. more

New Owners Horrid Place! 11/5/2009

I'm surprised to see this still listed on citysearch... it has a new name and new owners. We went there for my birthday and were served raw, undercooked, and inedible food. It was AWFUL. The waitress didn't seem surprised or even very apologetic. She did not offer to take the food off our ticket - until I TOLD HER we were not paying for it. I can not emphasize enough how strongly I do NOT recommend this restaurant! Pros: none! Cons: inedible food! more

A Wonderful Surprise - Great Food and a Friendly Owner 8/1/2008

My friend and I are always on the look-out for a new place to enjoy our kind of comfort food. Sure, we like burgers and good sandwiches and the like and there are places to get those. But for a long time we've been looking for a good pastrami sandwich in the PDX area and we'd about given up when Kenny and Zuke's opened their place downtown. We've had the Pastrami there and it's usually pretty good but, in my opinion, is inconsistent in quality. Well, then my friend happened upon The Old Mill Cafe and went there and discovered the kind of Pastrami we really like. Lean, moist and super-flavorful. We also tried the Reuben (we each had half of each sandwich) and found it to be as good as could be although we both preferred the pastrami. It was, in a word, a taste treat. The day we were there, Bob, the owner, stopped by our table to chat. I had noticed Cincinnati Chili was on the menu and Bob and I shared our love for that dish which is tough to find in PDX. The special on the day we went was BBQ Ribs and my friend and I have already set up a time for a redux on The Old Mill. Although it's a drive for us to get there It's truly worth the cost of the fuel. You won't be disappointed. Pros: Terrific food, extensive menu, friendly service Cons: Off the beaten track more

Wonderful treasure of a cafe!!! 7/20/2008

There is only one word that can best describe The Old Mill Cafe, WOW!!! My husband and in laws dined here for the first time the other night after my brother and sister in law had come across it on google and from the appetizer to the dessert we were wowed more and more by every bite!! We started with bruschetta which well fed the six of us, we each tried a different main course and my turkey BLT which came on a toasted cheddar hoagie roll was by far a sandwich worth coming back for!! My husband tried the pastrami burger which was a half pound of heaven that we had to take home in a doggie bag due to the generous portion!! We also tried the pasta primavera, the chili, the spinach mimosa salad and the meatloaf and were more then satisfied. Also the dinner rolls which came before the meal could have been a meal in themselves. And then dessert came.....a chocolate brownie with a rich caramel filling, warmed and served with ice cream and topped with cherries was a perfect ending to the perfect dinner!!! We were so pleased with the food and service, as well as the view of Mt. Hood at sunset, that my husband and I returned the following night for coconut shrimp and fish and chips and once again were blown away by the taste and appeal of the food, the restaurant and the service. The owners came by both nights to give us a little background on the cafe and ask how our food was, we felt as if we were in the comforts of our own home and plan on returning as often as possible!!! Thank you Old mill Cafe for your delicious food and spectacular ambiance, we will be seeing you soon!!! Pros: All of the above Cons: none!!!!! more

Fresh and homemade comfort food 6/8/2008

We went to Old Mill Cafe for the 1st time the other night. It is right by our house. At first I was hesitant because of the decor (yes, I am a snob), but was quite surprised to find out that everything we ordered was homemade. Our salad was nice fresh greens and large for a side salad. We had a berry dressing and balsamic, both were delicious and fresh. I had a delicious fresh turkey sandwich on homemade wheat bread (backed fresh that morning). Yum. My other guest had, what he called, the second best hamburger he has ever tasted (that is saying a lot). It was on a homemade bun... and he couldn't finish his portion. The beer and wine were well below prices I have seen elsewhere. I must say, I was quite impressed by everything we had. We will be regulars. I most liked the freshness of everything we ate. My kind of food. Pros: Value, homemade, fresh ingredients Cons: Decor could be updated more

Great Food, Great Service!!!!!!!!!! I eat here alot!!!!!!!!!! 11/29/2007

I have been going to the Old Mill Cafe for approx. a year and I have to say that if you are looking for some of the best food in the Clackamas area you would be dumb not ot try this place out. Some of my favorites include the Manhatten, THE RUEBEN, and the Prime Rib sandwich, of course you have to have the tots!!!!! Their dinner specials that are on the board always make your mouth water just reading the descriptions. The drinks are good and if you love wine, they have an excellent selection. I have been reading the past reviews on this site and I think you have to try it for yourself. Give it one try, it might not be for everybody but for those who love good food, good pricing, great drinks and good service its the place to be. The wait staff their are all great looking girls, which of course adds to the ambiance, but they always have a smile on thier faces and are great at making you feel at home. There is one waitress their named Nicole, and if she wasn't already engaged I would ask her out in a second!!! What a lucky guy to have such a sweetheart. But back to the food....it can't be beat...the kitchen staff you can tell puts alot of effort in what they serve. Try this gem out of a place, I promise you will walk away full and happy that you came. I know that my family and I love coming here!!!!!!! Pros: Good food, nice staff, and great drinks Cons: parking more

Great customer service 8/20/2007

My daughter introduced me to The Old Mill Cafe. She and her family go there frequently and love it. My experience was wonderful -- good food, prompt and friendly service, homey and family friendly atmosphere. I will recommend it to all of my friends. more

Best diverse menu on the planet 7/16/2007

Wow. Talk about a great selection of meals, some of which you can't find anywhere else in Portland. I especially like the ""chile and spaghetti"" dish for lunch (I forget what it's called) and found the dinner selections outstanding in both flaver and value. Attentive and friendly service. And the owners are a delight. Obviously, the ownership, chef and staff pour their hearts and souls into providing a great dining experience (it really shows). We've enjoyed a romantic dinner for two in the formal dining area and also have enjoyed eating in the bar area to chat with our friends and other customers. High quality dining experience in a neighborhood setting. Hard to find and harder to beat. Pros: Service and Food Quality Cons: Bar area a little noisy more

Wonderful Food and Service 6/6/2007

The Old Mill Cafe is one of those restaurants that you always want to visit! We live 20 miles away but every single time we go, we have an excellent meal and get tremendous service. We LOVE the owners! They have clearly poured their heart and soul into the food, the environment and wish nothing more than to please their customers. The breads are all from scratch; the sandwiches fresh and big and the talented Chef can make the most delicious and sophisticated meals! The wait staff remembers our preferences, our favorites and us. I challenge anyone to find that type of atmosphere in a chain restaurant! I agree wholeheartedly that if you want a generic mass-produced dining experience, skip this gem. If you're looking for great food with a personal touch check out the Old Mill. more

Great Customer Service 5/25/2007

I came to this site to write a review on one of the best eating experiences my family I has had in a long time. I brought my extended family (12 of us) to the Old Mill for a birthday party for my mother. We not only had incredible meals (try the gladiator plate) but the owner (Debbie) was as gracious to us as she could possibly be. We have eaten here often and would have never considered a different place for this affair. All the kids received special treats as they always do when they go in there. They ask for Debbie each time we go. After reading the previous reviews I can only say they are written by those who do not want this restaurant to succeed as much as it has ? the owners come by to make sure everything is perfect - and it always is. You can listen to those reviews of people who are threatened by the Old Mill?s success or you can try this great place. By the way, they have had the same wonderful servers and restaurant staff for over a year so I truly doubt they are mistreated. Pros: Food, Owners, Service more

Great Experience 5/14/2007

Do you often wish for that memory of that great small town restaurant the - one you found ?off the beaten track? on one of your travels ? the one that had the best homemade food, freshest bread, and the friendliest service. Well we have that here ? right in Clackamas on Sunnyside Road. For those that visit often like myself and my family -we truly appreciate the great sandwiches, homemade soups, homemade breads, and even Gourmet dinners. We love the smiling and friendly staff, owners, and Chef. Forget being anonymous at those chain restaurants? It ?s like Cheers here ? where everybody wants to know your name and truly cares that you have had a great experience. Pros: Warm, enjoyable atmosphere, great food Cons: occasionally parking can be a problem more

Best Dinner Ever 2/19/2007

My husband and I had dinner on Valentines Day at the Old Mill Cafe and it was wonderful. I had the Nut Encrusted Salmon, my husband the Filet Mignon and both were fabulous, as was the appetizer, soup and the dessert. Prices were reasonable. They had an awesome singer ( who apparently will be comming back regularly) and the ambience and service were also great. We will be spending many a Saturday night here as well as every Valentine's Day. Keep up the good work OLD MILL!! Pros: All more

Hidden Secret of Clackamas 11/9/2006

I just went to the Old Mill cafe for the first time since the new owners took over ( about 1 year ago). Many people had recommended it to me but it took me some time to try it. I couldn't believe how it had changed and couldn't believe the quality and quantity of food. Their fish and chips are the freshest and best I have ever eaten and my friend tried their Manhattan sandwich which was served on a homemade roll and had probably 2 lbs of meat on it. We saw their dinner specials that came out and were impressed with the presentation of the food and we overheard the reviews of the taste which were great!! We noticed the homemade cinnamon rolls and had to have one for dessert - it was fresh, delicious and the best we had ever tasted. Don't hesitate like I did...we will go back often and will try their nightly special next time. Pros: Food the Quantity & Quality, and ambience Cons: Don't realize the beautiful restaurant inside from the look of the outside. more

get rid of the TV 11/3/2006

We really like the Red Barn bistro but its spendy, so we went to the pub side of the establishment and its ok--but for the tvs. Pros: Cool location especially in summer when you can sit under the big oak tree! Cons: too much tv, hard to understand which place is which, bad parking more

excellent food, friendly and helpful staff, overall great place to eat i recommend it! 9/18/2006

Recently I went to the old mill cafe and they have a incredible new menu!! I ordered a blackened prime rib dinner and it was amazing!!! The spices where not like anything i have ever tasted. It was acompanied by red potatoes and roasted vegetables. The server was extremely knowlegable and very friendly. My food arrived very quickly and everything was fresh and delicious. I highly recommend this resteraunt. I could not have asked for a better experience. And i also ordered a few drinks from the bar and they were absoulutly perfect. Overall i was very impressed I give them two thumbs up!!!! more

Amazing!! 9/12/2006

Imagine a family restaurant where the Chef will take the time to make you a one of a kind meal. That's what happened at the Old Mill! I asked some questions of the waitress and the next thing I knew the Chef was there - asking me how and what I felt like having - I had a meal of my very own that catered to my preferences and avoided my many food allergies. It was amazing and picture perfect as well. My friend had their coconut shrimp and stated it was the best she ever had. The couple sitting next to us state they eat here at least twice a week and most weeks even more.. They already have a following of fans and we have joined the crowd. Pros: They cater to your needs Cons: None that I could see more
