After walking around Lakeview looking for a place to eat, we came to Genesee Depot. It's easy to miss, and my partner didn't believe there was a restaurant there. It's a good thing I was persistant, otherwise we would have missed out on the best prime rib in town. Sure the menu is limited. And yes, the decor isn't all that exciting. But the food is excellent and the service is outstanding. Add on the fact that there's no cork fee, and you've got yourself a great night out. Don't walk on by 5/21/2003

How easy it is to walk by this Lake View establishment and not go in. For three years I was guilty, but no more. Good, unobtrusive service and meals like your Mom made at her best. Except your Mom didn't use capers or dried cherries. Ignore the decor and treat yourself to simple, good cooking. BYOB! Pros: Good value, Simplicity, Good Service Cons: Weird decor more

Pleasant Depot Surprise 2/6/2003

This is great place to dine! The atmosphere is above casual but below formal and very charming. The menu offers great items but the Prime Rib steals the show -always tender and at a great price, you can't go wrong with this. Plus bringing my own bottle of wine and no corkage fee adds up to the best value in the area. The staff is great and our waitress, who happened to serve us 3 consecutive times, is extremely hospitable and funny. Charming dining experience and a spot I frequent monthly now. Pros: No Corkage fee BYOB, charming, friendly staff Cons: No Soda or Pop more

I thought the service was ok, and I didn't think it was terribly expensive considering the area, but for the price, I should've gotten more. Break was just break, the salad was so/so, the menu was limited, and the food was ok. But that's it. Just ok. For $20 per plate the food should be damn good. Portions were too small. For the money, you should go to Sabatino's on Irving Park. This place wasn't worth the effort. Pros: No cockroaches, Bathroom clean, ??? Cons: No Parking, Small portions, Food so/so for price more

nice neighborhood restaurant... I can always count on getting a good meal here... some may say that the menu is limited... but what they do, they do very well... I like the comfortable atmosphere... and I like the BYOB... Pros: comfy atmosphere, dependable good food, BYOB Cons: could use update more

A Night Out that Won't Break the Bank! 10/15/2002

You can't go wrong at Genesee Depot. The food is tasty and reasonably priced, and you save $$$ by bringing your own wine. It's a night out that the pocketbook agrees with. more
