Pathetic! 6/29/2011

Good: There was nothing to like If the sight would let me rate this business with NEGATIVE stars, I would give it a negative-10.. Bad: I took my 2 daughters for a pedicure and haircut as a special outing. The salon was late for the appointment. They kept trying to change the fact that I asked for us to be kept together. I was told "Ug...I hate doing pedicures" and "This is so gross". (My feet were clean and cared for). They took so long basically putting nail polish on our feet (no massage, no foot care at all)...that we had to skip the hair-cuts because we had somewhere else to go. It cost me $80!!!!!. Improvements: Don't let students work on clients unless they are actually trained to do a good job. Yes it is a school. But there are "no-name" schools where I live that do a MUCH better job at EVERYTHING. Gene Juarez should be ashamed to have his name on this school.. Other: The reason we picked Gene Juarez was because of the reputation of their salons. We fully expected these students to have at least SOME of the class that the regular salons do. They did NOT...nor did their "teachers". Sorry...but I have NOTHING good to say about my experience. And I plan on telling anyone who will listen!. more

Love it! 5/18/2010

My experiences at the South campus (Federal Way) have all been very positive. Everyone there was nice and professional. If you want a stylist who is professional and talented, I highly recommend Berlin. To date she has cut and colored my hair twice and given me a perm. They have all turned out top notch and I am especially impressed with the perm. I have very fine hair and have had probably 30+ perms in my life. The perm Berlin gave me was, hands down, the BEST perm I have ever had. The products she recommends for my hair actually work and she doesn't try to sell me stuff I don't need. My hair looks better now than it ever has. I will continue to get my hair done at Gene Juarez but will follow Berlin once she graduates (11/2010). more

Know before you go and get top service with "quality control" 5/12/2007

Expect that your service by students will take longer than at the Gene Juarez salons and that an instructor will probably go back over a haircut or closely monitor your service to make it perfect. You can also expect good results. I have the choice of going to regular salons for a $125.00 full foil hair color. I choose to go to Gene Juarez Beauty School (for almost half the price) because the quality control process will not allow bad outcomes. After experiencing ridiculously high prices for mediocre to shoddy service in high end salons, I prefer the Gene Juarez Beauty School. Sure, the decor is bargain basement. The enthusiasm and dedication of the students and instructors more than compensates for the simple setting. The smart consumer will discover and cultivate (this means encourage and tip them well!) the best and brightest students and ask for them by name. The school posts the names and photos of the top performers and achievers in the lobby. I've never had a bad experience there. I recommend this beauty school to anyone who is on a budget or anyone who prefers "quality control" as the means to quality service. more

Friendly and Inexpensive Service 6/28/2006

I had a great experience at the Gene Juarez Academy. Although I had nothing too complicated to do - I'm a guy who just wanted a trim - they did a really nice job. They aren't professionals ... yet ... but their instructors check up on your haircut each step of the way. The haircut cost me only $7.95 (student price) and included two shampoos. Definitely recommended to those of us with less complicated hair lives. more

Okay for a beauty school 9/27/2005

I guess you can't expect the very best if you go to a beauty school. I went to Gene Juarez to get my hair cut and highlights. Their hair cuts are cheap. Their highlights are reasonably priced. It took forever for them to get the highlights done. I told them what I wanted and they kept telling me they didn't think it would work, but it did. After my highlights the instructor just ended up cutting my hair. I don't know if this is because the student was incapable or maybe they felt sorry for me because I had been there all day. Anyway if you have time to spare and are extra patient, this may be the place for you if you want to save some money. more

So so 8/20/2005

I went here when I first moved to Fed. Way because I was broke. I have had my hair cut at a beauty school before, so I knew what to expect: the haircut takes a long time because they have to get approval from their instructors for everything, and the stylists are very inexperienced because they are students. Also, the student recommended a style that didn't really work for my hair type, which he would have known with more experience. I was so delirious from waiting so long that I actually said yes, but I really should have known better, having thirty years of experience with my own hair. I probably won't go back there unless I am really broke again, but it's not really their fault; they are students and you do get what you pay for. Ok for me more

Gene Juarez Academy 8/17/2005

If you're looking for a good hair cut/style, at a very discounted price, this is the place to go. Regular cuts only cost $9.95, and styles are not much more than that. The stylists are students at the academy, and they are supervised by instructors as they work. I have had some extremely good stylists and others that were just decent, but I've never had a bad experience there. It's definitely worth the visit. The Academy also offers manicures and pedicures, as well as deep conditioning treatments for the hair and more. They also have a great selection of hair products (typically similar products as what is offered at actual Gene Juarez salons). more
