I have been a Friendly's fan for sometime. Hey, the food is not five star cuisine, (although the ice cream is pretty good), but it is one of those places you taek the family to. Most restaurants do not cater sufficiently to children like Friendly's does.
However, my latest visit to the Friendly's in Tenafly was not up to par. Keep in mind, it is small (if you want a bigger Friendly's, go to the one in Elmwood Park on Rt.46). When my son and I were seated,we saw several black gnats on the wall, flying around. I kept thinking that I hope one of those black gnats didn't fall into my drink or meal. The restaurant did not look its cleanest either. A couple next to me complained to the waitress about their meal. The service time was so-so, at best, and for such a small restaurant, I thought it would be much quicker. I ordered the Fish and Chips, and it was good, except for the Cole Slaw. My son's Chicken Fingers were good, but neither of our meals was spectacular.
The ice cream treat my son got, the Clown Cone Head, was done a little sloppily, and my son got grossed out with the mixture of M & M's and ice cream, which has never occured before. I tasted it and thought the ice cream was a bit icey tasting myself.
All in all, I was a bit dissappointed. The people who work there need to brighten up the restaurant, steam the carpet, kill those gnats, and improve service. Otherwise I will schlep up to Route 46 and dine there.
