Ann Freeman, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in psychotherapy with teen and adult individuals. She maintains a private practice in Chapel Hill, NC. With over 25 years experience as a clinician, she is currently working with a broad spectrum of clients. Among her areas of expertise are the healing of trauma, the resolution of depression and anxiety, support for successful weight loss and weight loss maintenance, parent coaching, support for adoptive parents and adoptees, freeing the artistic process, and support for life transitions. Dr. Freeman is a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner in training. She has also received training in EMDR. Dr. Freeman has come to the practice of psychology from a varied background. Before receiving her PhD in Clinical Psychology, she received an undergraduate degree in English Literature and a Masters in Dance. She was the assistant editor for a book on primitive American art. She taught, choreographed and performed dance at the University of Richmond, Virginia. She then studied and performed dance in New York City until deciding to pursue psychology in her early thirties. In her practice of psychology she draws upon what she learned of the human mind and heart through her studies of literature and what she learned about the creative self through her studies of dance.
