Amazing desserts 4/27/2009

All of the pastries are great. Let me repeat that: all of the pastries are great. You haven't lived until you have had their morning buns, or three. Best croissants ever, especially the chocolate ones. Ready-made cakes are great too. For lunch so far I've only had their paninis which were delicious. Not a place for dieters, keep out! Never ordered a formal cake so can't say much. Flower store part adds so much to the atmosphere and blends in so well you forget you're in a part flower store while you nibble away in a cozy indoor garden. Small place but it's never been packed so always managed to grab a seat and casually eat breakfast with my daughter. Pros: Charming place, pastries are great Cons: Nada more

Nothing like I'd asked for 10/6/2008

I had Flower Flour do my cake and flowers for my recent wedding. I admit that I had a few changes to my flower requests but on my last meeting with the owner, I thought with all the written down notes, that we had the same game plan. I had asked for mostly ""Pale"" pink and maybe a few white flowers in my centerpieces and bouquets. For the cake I had shown her some handmade cake jewelry branches I wanted to use. She told me they'd look better in my hair and she didn't want to put them on the cake because they'd look terrible without the flowers and I just gave in. When I showed up the day before to drop them off she was very excited to show me the start of my bouquets that were purple, fushia, white, dark green and purple filler flowers and a few giant wilted looking pinkish roses. I asked that she not put the purple or green flowers in there and I'd ignore the fushia ones. She called later to make sure she could still use the purple in the centerpieces. I told her no and her response was that she was going to have to scrounge up pink flowers to replace them. She still ended up putting the green filler flowers in the centerpieces anyway. The bouteniers and corsages were huge, heavy and very outdated. I had to adjust my own bouquet due to the odd wide shape of it. I'm confused at how the communication was so badly misunderstood. Even with all my flower changes I still had always wanted mostly or all pale pink flowers with a little bit of white. I even specifically said no fushia. I was extremely dissappointed with the flowers and the owners lack of listening skills. My cake ended up looking overgown with giant wilty flowers all over it with just a little bit of my cake jewelry showing underneath them and a huge split in the icing on the front of the bottom layer. Pros: Cake tasted great Cons: Terrible communication and errogant owner more

  • Located off the beaten path from the downtown strip, Flower Flour takes its name from its twin professions: The store is both a flower shop and a bakery. In this sensory space, the scent of fresh-baked turnovers and sticky buns is enhanced by the smell of exotic hyacinths. Flower flour is that kind of place where everything is real. From the April 3-9, 2003 issue of Metro, Silicon Valley's Weekly Newspaper

    Tickles the Senses:
Flower Flour owner Mimi Brown opened her new flower shop and patisserie at the end of February. She has a unique approach selling flower arrangements and homemade desserts and fresh breads.

The smell of sweets permeates the small Flower Flour patisserie. Painted on the exterior of the building is a hint of what's inside. Cherub-like children enjoy delectable sweets, too-pretty-to-eat cakes are lined up on shelves, and that's just what's on the walls. Inside, customers find themselves in a kind of English garden where they can muse over what kind of dessert they will try this time with their hot drinks.

For something new, the Cinderella cake, made of pumpkin mousse, is recommended: An old favorite is the pear cake. The patisserie carries a variety of French mousses as well.

Owner Mimi Brown offers decadent sweets for both dessert connoisseurs as well as those who simply have a sweet tooth. Along with morsels to taste, Brown also has the perfect drink. Espresso, coffee and teas are some of the drinks she sells along with her sweets.
