Flo Cafe

Just ate dinner at this place in Astoria where everyone thinks they are someone. First off 75% of the people IN the place think wearing sunglasses indoors after the sun has gone down makes them cool...it doesn't. We were ignored by the cliquey wait staff that ""forgot"" to put our order in and made us wait 2 hours! Not only did the manager not apologize but he didn't ask to refill our empty wine glasses during this long wait. We ordered refills from 3 different waiters and finally got our second rounds of wine but still no food. Finally we get our food which was very good but still no apologies from the staff. Actually one waitress said sorry, but then she disappeared and ignored us for what felt like another hour. One of the owners was sitting next to us canoodling with his girl and paid no mind to us - an absolute turn off. We didn't complain, we were just patiently starved. We asked for the bill and after 10 min of waiting she apologized for forgetting and brought it to us. $101.53 and 2.5 hours later we left angry and needless to say the only tip they got was to have a nice day. We will NOT be back any time soon. By the way the place wasn't even half full and they blamed the poor service on a ""new waiter's first day."" What was the managers excuse?? These people are too busy looking at their reflections in the glass windows instead of providing good service. My advice, go across the street to Grand Cafe instead. I like flo.I haven't been there since they rennovated it, but I've always been a fan. It looks even better now that it's renovated, so I'll make sure to go. I've been there many times, and never had a real complaint about the food, or the drinks. It does get a little chilly there at certain point. The staff is mostly nice- sometimes we've had bad service, other times we've had an amazing service, so that differs. Good service, great food, great drinks, I love it. more

My friend and I went to this place last night. It said something about allergies on the menu and she's allergic to gluten so she wanted to eat there and it looked nice enough so I didn't really object. We sat down and waited a while just to get menus. We started to order and my friend just asked that her shrimp not touch anything with wheat. That turned into a big production and the waitress disappeared for 5 min then came back and we finished our order. I got an iced tea. Simple enough or one would think so. The tea took about 20 min to get to me. I understand a wait if it's busy but at the time, we were one of the few tables there. We both ordered salad with shrimp. They took an hour and 15 min to just bring us salads. About halfway through the wait I asked for bread because people around us were getting bread and I was starving. The bread didn't even arrive until our salads got there and it was cold and hard. The salads were mediocre. I probably could have gotten one just as good at mcdonalds for $5...which happens to be what my 3 little shrimp cost. The only real reason I ate my entire salad was because I was starving after waiting so long. I've never complained to a manager in my life but everything was just so awful. So the manager tells my friend that he'll comp the food which isn't what I expected at all. It was a really nice gesture except he didn't. He took off $10. I wasn't trying to get a free meal but if you say you're going to do something, do it. To top it all off, we both got sick later that night. Needless to say we won't be back more

found this place accidentally after our dead din at nearby Amore Cafe. Drinks were fine. I had the $13 sake, which normally would have sting for the price, but the waiter-dude gave me two generous taste samples of different sales which took away amy sting. the place was jammed and the DJ rolled with some enjoyable vining lounge tunes. My wife thought the caparinha a bit sweet, but she hates amy taste of sugar. Warning: the molten chocolate cake is really nothing special and none of their desserts are homemade more

I went to Flo last night and had a very pleasant time. It wasn't crowded or overly loud and the music selection was good. The waiter was also very friendly. I ordered the cheese ravioli w/ roasted red pepper sauce - VERY good and the lava cake which was also VERY good - the only negative is that it was a bit over cooked so the center wasn't as soft as it should have been - but I still recommend it and because it's so rich you can share one. more

I came across Flo by accident one day when my friends and I were looking for a place to chill. We loved this cafe-lounge!! In terms of atmosphere, I think it's the best one in Astoria!! I love the back part of it- it's got a great feel to it, great crowd, good music...and the drinks are amazing! Flo's become my hang out for my friends and I - we're there every week! what is up with the music ? Such a nice place but the music is horrible guys change it up a little!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! house can give you a headache and that elevator music has to go. more

Flo is a great place for drinks and lite eats. Service has always been consistant, staff a delight, owners are present and very nice. I have recommend flo to friends and will continue to do so. The new part is freaking hot too great retractable roof, Great lighting and the music ain't bad either. Best Damn Chicken Ceasar Salad on 30th Ave and Good Coffee too!! more

I liked Flo because, not only was the food delicious, but the atmosphere made me feel as though I'd left the hustle and bustle of NYC for a bit. The interior is dark and romantic and almost made me feel secluded. There is also an outdoor dining area that faces the less busy street rather than the always busy 30 Ave. Pros: Food Quality and Ambience Cons: Having to ask for the Check more
