In the Heart of PVille, a Breath of Ireland 6/12/2006

This beautiful house, reminiscent of a country chateau (on a much smaller scale), is buried in the heart of Painesville, and is so calming and relaxing. My husband and I spent two nights here in April, and let me say, it was something to remember. It is a little difficult to find if you are not familiar with the area, as Mentor Avenue splits when you get near Painesville town square. In short, it is on the brick road, with the sign on the lawn. A narrow, private drive takes you to the back of the house, where a private garden and brick garage enclose the lawn. The owners will meet you at the door and give you a brief tour of the house. It is beautiful inside, with a modern kitchen, lots of natural wood and plaster and gorgeous decorations from all over Ireland. After you are given your key to the house (you can come and go as you please, similar to a hotel), you are taken to your suite. Large, comfy beds and fluffy down comforters and heavy wooden furniture attired our particular room. It was a beautiful mahogany, if my woodlore is correct. The bathroom is large, and comes with two sinks, a large jacuzzi tub, and a shower. Bathrobes await, as well as a small cocktail fridge with refreshments. The particular package that was given to us included a welcome basket, which had a bottle of bubbly and various snack items. As well as a gift certificate to Epiq Bistro (see my other review). I know there are other overnight packages, which I really know nothing about. With ours, however, the innkeepers also called and made the reservations for our visit to Epiq. Each room also came equiped with satellite TV and a DVD player, as well as a pull-out LCD TV. Our DVD player in the room was on the fritz, but everything else was wonderful. The innkeepers, and I apologize, I cannot remember their names, were hospitable and made wonderful breakfasts! Lemon poppy scones, apple-stuffed french toast, fruit salads and coffee or tea, were served on Sunday morning in the formal dining room, where all the guests gathered. It was cozy and very welcoming. During our stay, a couple from northwest Ohio, Michigan, and even New Mexico were there to join us. After you eat, you can tour the house, and take pictures of the various trinkets and beautiful furnishings. The kitchen is a bit off limits, and the basement entirely (that is where the innkeepers live), but you may roam elsewhere. Overall, if you want a stay away from home that is cozy, your needs are attended, and you have the freedom to wander a home that is picturesque and beautiful, I recommend this B&B. You will not be disappointed, nor will you leave with an empty tummy. more
