If you can stand the cold, you'll like 10/14/2002

I've been to First Night twice. I loved the vibe you get from being there, being around all of the people and the seeing the different things going on. But I also remember it being so cold that I left early the first time and the second time I drank so much coffee to keep warm, that I was constantly looking for a bathroom (which is practically impossible). My advice would be wait until about 11/11:30pm, stay for the show at midnight, then go warm up in a nearby bar before trying to fight the crowds on the T. Pros: exciting Cons: freezing, crowded more

Happy New Year 7/25/2002

  • In Short
Included on Boston's list of claims to fame, First Night ranks up there; it's the country's oldest and largest New Year's Eve party. Locals and tourists flood the city to enjoy an extensive program of entertainment, most of it family-friendly (revelers need only purchase a First Night button to gain access to the indoor events). Elaborate ice sculptures fill Boston's parks, while the colorful Grand Procession parade and fireworks display round out the evening.
