My boyfriend and I just went to Chicago and did the ferris wheel at Navy Pier at night. It was kind of hard to see because the windows were foggy but it was a pretty view when yo...

OVerrated 12/5/2009

Navy pier is good for the IMAX but it is VERY dirty and crowded. The Imax is very dirty as well. There are lots of kids running around and there is no very to move. Yuck. Pros: imax, scenic Cons: dirty, expensive, crowded, more

Navy Pier 5/12/2009

Navy Pier is the quintessential summer tourist destination in Chicago. It has countless restaurant and entertainment options for all ages and interests. PLUS it hosts Cirque Shanghai every year, which is a can't miss event! You can literally fill an entire day with great activities at Navy Pier. If you're looking for something fun to do for little cost, it's the perfect location to spend a fair weather afternoon. more

Ferris Wheel Navy Pier 9/29/2008

Last June I was on vacation in Chicago for the first time and off course me and my friends were going to visit the Navy Pier. The first thing I saw was the Ferris Wheel, and one friend told me to go in there so I could see the whole skyline of Chicago and a view on Michigan Lake. Now you must know that I'm afraid of heights so there was NO WAY I would go in that Ferris Wheel. Then my friend Derrick said he would join me, not to worry, it would be beautiful. And it was beautiful, I was so afraid but I went into that Wheel and I saw the whole overview of the Skyline and the Lake, it was awesome and I will never forget the experience. Maybe I will get in the Ferris Wheel next time I'm going to visit Chicago cause I will be back one day. Anja Pietersen, the Netherlands Pros: ambience, service Cons: not always allowed to walk the whole Navy Pier more

nice tourist attraction 2/20/2008

i love chicago. We've lived here for almost 3 years now and it is one great city. Navy pier is really a nice place to see the lake, eat some great food (specially the hot dogs) and to do some touristy shopping. I've been here for all 4 seasons, and would recomend to avoid the summer. It is way too crowded to enjoy yourself. Still fun though. i'd say check it out if you are a first timer in the city. =) Pros: fun Cons: parking is a bit pricy more

Beautiful from afar 11/24/2007

The Navy Pier is best enjoyed from afar. From the giant ferris wheel, to the arched main atrium, and the fireworks in the summers, it's a thing of beauty. Up close, it's a bit too crowded. It's great for a stroll, but the shops and dining options aren't all that impressive. The one exception is if you're up for a good old Chicago-style hotdog. The ballroom is fun but can be too large for some events (been there for company outings mostly). more

A must see for visitors 8/28/2005

Particularly if you have children and are visiting in warmer weather, be sure to visit the Navy Pier. They have an onsite Children's Museum as well as a small miniature gold course, a very large slow moving ferris wheel offering great views of the surrounding area, and other games. Lots of food options including many food stands and a few sit down places. more

Navy Pier 5/2/2004

This is a great place to bring the kids! we brought our 3 and 1 1/2 year old down last year and the 3 year old who is now 4 has been asking ever since if we can go again. We went on everything and they loved the end of the pier. Our plans are to head downtown again very soon. Pros: unique to Chicago, family friendly, lots to do Cons: , summer is crowded more

tourist TRAP 1/8/2003

This place is like a giant tourist trap and robs you of your money! Pros: nice facilities, IMAX Cons: expensive, touristy, low quality more

So much more to offer! 10/31/2002

Chicago's Navy Pier has to be number one; there is a little bit of everything for everyone no matter what their age is! Pros: variety/diversity, ample parking Cons: occasional long lines more

Fun 8/17/2002

navy Pier is a treat for your kids, going as a family is great fun but very expensive. They do have a lot for the family to do, but eveything cost $$$. They should have a family package available. Pay one family price and participate in most of the acitivities the Pier offers. Even though it was expensive, me and my friends took our kids from 2:00-11:00pm and had a blast!!! Pros: alot of activities, food choices, parking Cons: expensive, need more bathrooms, crowded more

good times! 8/9/2002

navy pier's beer garden is a great place to relax and hang out with friends! there are plenty of restaurant options, little browsing shops and live music... and the view of the city is beautiful!! more

Amazing! 8/9/2002

The childish, festive atmosphere at Navy Pier is to DIE for. Half the fun of the place is simply browsing the shops: they have stores that sell NOTHING but keychains, NOTHING but backpacks, NOTHING but magnets...it's so awesome. My only complaint is that when I was there, the place was PACKED with people...and I was there on a WEEKDAY. I shudder to think what Navy Pier would be like on a weekend. But all in all, this is an awesome experience. Just don't forget to ride the Ferris Wheel. :) Pros: Amazing atmosphere, Original, fun shops, Awesome ferris wheel Cons: Crowds, High prices more

Lake Front Seating Available. 8/8/2002

Where else can you go to shop, have a drink or just sit and view the beautiful CHicago skyline. Navy Pier has blossomed into a place where my friends and I can escape to. We can go there for a good dinner and then walk down to the end to listen to a band play and enjoy a few drinks. The weather and atmosphere makes this a place where I can escape to. more

Something for EVERYONE!! 8/1/2002

It doesn't matter if it's January or July, there's always exciting things to do and see at Navy Pier!! Being along the outside looking in on the city is breath taking, inside you can dine (RIVA) or just grab a casual meal. Shop in all kinds of little gifty shops, your sure to find alot of Holiday gifts at this time. Don't miss WIZARD OF OZ at Shakespear theatre. The best show going on in the city. One would think, I've seen this all my life...again? Yes! Amazing modern-day productions. Entertains everyone of all ages!!! Pros: VIEW, Shops, RIVA Cons: Too toursisty, Busy busy BUSY!! more

I give Navy Pier 5 Stars 7/29/2002

Navy Pier IS Chicago!!! There is something there for the whole family. Navy Pier is in an ideal location and there are all types of transportation available to and from Navy Pier. My grandchildren really enjoy the childrens activities and special events and exhibits. My husband and I enjoyed the stained glass exhibit, not only was it beautiful, but its history enlightened us. Pros: excellent food, good parking, friendly atmosphere Cons: a little expensive, restrooms, amusements long lines more

  • In Short
Chicago was home to the world's first Ferris wheel at the 1893 World Colombian Exposition. It stands 150 feet tall, with Lake Michigan and the lakefront spread out below. In the evening, thousands of lights illuminate the Ferris wheel's 40 long spokes, creating a nighttime spectacle. The 40 gondola cars each hold as many as six people. If you take the ride, bring a camera and your sweetie--for a little top-of-the-world smooch.
