Editorial review from Citysearch 12/4/2013

I feel like this location has went down hill fairly recent. The staff is not very friendly and the food quality hasn't been what it used to be. We came here last weekend and between our group, two of our steaks were so undercooked, while another one was burnt. The server seemed irritated when we sent back two super rare steaks (they wanted them medium and medium well). The others finished their meals by the time the steaks came out. \r \r We will not be back more

Nice place, but good food....not so much 11/29/2011

Just went to Elway's this past weekend for a special occasion. We were looking forward to a great meal, considering the prices, but were very disappointed with the food. Shrimp cocktail - biggest shrimp I've ever seen, but not much flavor Salmon - overdone Steak - Here's where the real story begins.... I ordered the large Fillet, expecting a decent tenderloin. I'm a steak lover and have eaten fillets all over the world at some very high end restaurants, so I'm pretty knowledgeable about steaks. When the steak came it was relatively thin and flat and looked like a NY strip. I cut into it and was surprised by the amount of fat and the consistency of the meat....nothing like a tenderloin. I enjoy a good NY Strip, but not when I am paying for a high end fillet. In all my dining years I've only ever sent a steak back once before. When I mentioned that the cut did not seem like a Fillet they were very apologetic and took the steak back without questions. When they brought me another one it was the same thing, thin, fatty and not at all like a good Fillet. So, not sure if they had a new cook on that night who didn't know the difference, or what was going on, but don't go there if you are looking for a good steak! For what it's worth, the service was very good and the wine list was good, but also on the expensive side. more

It's Not Elway's, but he eats here for free! 8/4/2011

First off, I used to patronize this restaurant 2-3 times per week @ $50-$120 a hit for about 1 year. The more I frequented the place the worse and ruder the bar tenders became toward me. Yes, you know the two I'm talking about. I once tipped a waiter in San Francisco $150 for a two hundred dollar meal because the service was so personalized, so I think I know how to tip. But, the more I came in the sicker I got of watching other customers treated better than me, so I quit going there. At first I just started tipping according to service (15%, 10%, 5%, 0%), and then once the bar tenders hated me enough on my low tips I just quit going. Keep up the good business Elways - stay loyal to your staff. more

Elways - won't be back! 5/14/2011

Nice ambiance for dinner but.... hostesses were unfriendly and waitstaff was aloof and condescending. The level of service and quality of food is not comensurate with the high prices. I ordered a glass of wine, enjoyed it and when finished the waiter asked ""Do you wanna another one of these""? I was taked aback. I ordered the same menu item as the person sitting across from me, who ordered first, and the waiter asked ""Do you want it just like him""? Just like him??? Did he mean on a plate? I answered that I would like it ""medium"" The macaroni was dry,the asparagus plain, and the creamed corn tasted like it just came out of a can. Won't be back as the prices are high and the service not good and the food is mediocre There are much better restaurants in Denver and you don't loose your wallet. It was an unpleasant experience. more

Nasty foood, mixed service, pretty place 10/10/2010

Thank goodness they had biscuits so we could tide ourselves over until we could get home and eat. The ""Hollaindaise"" wasn't hollondaise it was some disgusting mustard mayo sauce (neither mayo or mustard are ingredients in Hollaindaise). The onlettes were crusty, dried out and overcooked, even the fruit wasn't ripe. The breakfast potaoes were ok. more

Amazing place for lunch 7/29/2010

Up until this point, I had only been to Elways on the bar side. This time we had a big table of people for lunch and I was impressed. The food was excellent. The lobster club was just right (although more lobster would have been good - it seemed like it had more bread than necessary) but it was still very tasty. The service was very friendly and accommodating. The dessert Ding Dong is AMAZING. I wish the lunch prices were a bit lower but I do recommend this place for sure. Pros: Excellent food, friendly and quick service Cons: A bit pricy for lunch more

Disappointment 5/18/2010

Daughters graduation celebration. Ordered 3 steaks out of 4 people, sent all 3 back. All 3 steaks were sitting in a pool of blood. 2 steaks were ordered Med-Well and 1 was Med. Sent 2 of the steaks back, they came back bloody, again. We gave up at that point. Pros: clean, service was prompt Cons: Food more

Steak okay, ambiance amazing 3/10/2010

This was one of the three restaurants my wife and I visited during 5280. We went to Elways, the Melting Pot and Vista dipping grill. Pros: Good side dishes Cons: Servers lack personality more

Impressive 2/3/2010

Our waiter Tim was very personable the moment we sat down. His knowledge on helping me pick out wine was fantastic. I'm always on the look out for a place that serves buffalo which Elway's did!! The side dishes were spectacular especially the cream corn. I loved everything about this place from start to finish. The next time I'm in CO I will definitely come back to this place :) more

Great service, great food! 12/1/2009

My girlfriend and went to the Elways in CC to celebrate our two year anniversary. Our server spent a lot of time talking to us helping us to pick out a great bottle of wine. She was one of the best servers that I have ever had. Our meal was great from start to finish. The coconut shrimp our huge and were cooked perfectly. We both went for the bone in ribeye. It was delicious. For dessert they presented us with a house made ding dong that had happy anniversary written in icing. We could not have asked for a better experience. more

Terrible Experience 8/17/2009

A colleaugue and I traveling in town for business went to the highly recommended steakhouse in CC for dinner and were met with absolutely horrible service. We met our waitoy and ordered appetizers, entrees and drinks at the same time. That was the last time he provided service until it was time for desert. The staff failed to bus the table after eating our apetizer and the plates sat on the table while we ate the entrees. Unfortunately, my entree (roasted chicken) was served to me overcooked and I had to flag down an alternate waitor for assistance. He failed to apologize and was very rude and unprofessional sfter I explained my concern. Outraged, I called over a manager and discussed my experience and she was very empathetic and comped the bill. and Needless to say, I would not recommend Elway's, unless the manager waited the tables. She made a intollerable experience better at the end of the night. more

DO NOT GO TO ELWAY'S -- BIG DISAPPOINTMENT 5/17/2009

I took my sister and her family to Elway's Cherry Creek to celebrate her 50th birthday. When we arrived the table looked very nice and had candies on it. Pros: Convenient parking (best I can come up with) Cons: Service (including customer service) more

jock food 4/6/2009

For the location price and name I may have been expecting too much. The food is good. the service is good. The ambiance is like the mirage in Vegas. Nice but boring. Needless to say I won't be going back. Pros: Example: best croissants in town Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

Beautiful restaurant, wonderful service, most food good however needs tweaking. 12/2/2008

Elways is a stunning restaurant with excellent service and an upbeat vibe that just can't be beat. Our only complaint is that they seem to drown many of the side dishes with some sort of seasoning salt that takes away the flavor of the vegetables. Also, the wedge salad has been reduced to half the size as when they originally opened and the price has remained the same. If iceberg lettuce has increased that much in price (which I haven't noticed at our local grocer), then increase the price 25 cents. Everything else on the menu is superb -- meats, poultry, fish, and oh yes, their wonderful desserts Pros: Ambience, parking, courteous staff, food. Cons: Wines a bit steep (could offer a few more reasonably priced wines.) Overly seasoned vegetables, wedge salad shrinking weekly.. more

Go here for Brunch! 9/19/2008

I first went to Elway's a few years ago when it first opened. I remember the scene very well - very ""see and be seen"" with our favorite Cherry Creek cougars getting sloshed on $15 martinis at the over-polished bar. I can't say I cared for it. The entrees were slightly above-average with unnecessarily large portions and the side items cost a fortune. It all lead up to an annoyingly pretentious experience. I tried again about 3 weeks after this experience and had the same result - so I decided to write Elway's off my list. I'm glad a friend talked me into going back - this time for Brunch. We're some of those people who ""brunch"" nearly every weekend. We try new places each time - and have a few favorite standbys (Le Central for $2 mimosa Saturdays - Vita for their fab french toast - Lucile's for the beignets). This particular week, we were doing some shopping and decided to go to Elway?s. It was pouring, and the valet was extremely attentive, and even managed to keep my shoes dry. The brunch entrees were extremely reasonable in price - and the portions were perfect (if not a little big!) When I say reasonable - I mean $7 for a full meal. Yes...$7. Some entrees also include crab or steak (worth it!) for a reasonable $15-20. No crazy side item upcharges, just great food in a quiet atmosphere (the cougars were asleep, I surmised). Pros: Affordable brunch! Cons: If you stay past 3pm...watch out for the bar crowd. more

Great dining experience 6/23/2008

My husband and I recently ate at Elway's for our wedding anniversary. We had made a reservation through Opentable and were seated immediately upon our arrival, at exactly our reservation time. This was on a Saturday night and it was very busy so I was impressed that there was not a wait as some other reviewers have mentioned. We had 2 servers and both were excellent, well informed and yet non obtrusive. Our drinks were kept refilled and they were very informed about the menu. The food was excellent as well, the steaks prepared just exactly as we ordered them and the sides were yummy as well. The manager came to our table at one point to inquire how our meal was going. I felt the service all around was excellent. I don't understand the negative reviews except to say either someone came in on an off night or the management has stepped up to correct any problems. I would highly recommend Elway's for a nice dinner out. Pros: Great food, service and ambiance Cons: Can't think of any, it was great all the way around more

Don't Bother with a Reservation - You'll Wait & Wait 5/19/2008

We had an 815 reservation and were not sat for over an hour. Our drink glasses were dirty with lipstick marks, no cocktail service in the bar/lounge area, table was off center and my husband was sat under a harsh spotlight, food was delivered to the wrong table, and water glasses were NEVER refilled. Food was good but not worth the price. Overall experience was HORRIBLE. NOT WORTH THE MONEY. Pros: good food Cons: poor service, lazy staff, cleanliness more

Perfect filet 4/3/2008

Elways?s is one of our favorite places to go for filet. We?ve been there on multiple occasions for both dinner and Sunday brunch. Every time we?ve gone we?ve made reservations and our table has always been ready as promised. The wait staff is always wonderful and although they know a lot about the menu I would overall describe them as ?fun, welcoming, & friendly? (in a good way, and we know most of them now). One of the managers, Lucy Allen, typically makes rounds at all the guest tables and asks for feedback and makes recommendations. Pros: The filet and service Cons: Can be busy, be sure to make reservations more

We were impressed 3/30/2008

After reading some reviews on Elways (Cherry Creek location) I was really nervous about taking my husband and friends there for my Husbands birthday. I decided to make reservation and give it a chance though. I am so happy that I did. We heard that people had to wait regardless of reservations. We went expecting to wait at the bar, but were seated right away. We had two wonderful waiters (one in training I assume) who were both extremely eager to please, as was the manager of the restaurant who checked in with us to make sure we were happy with our meal. Our water and drinks were always filled, and we always had food at the table. Our waiter gave us suggestions as well as answered any questions we had as to the food or the way something was cooked. We all got different meals and they were all amazing, Halibut was fabulous, as was the Filet, porterhouse, cauiliflour, asperagus, shrimp cocktail, and the salads. The restaurant was a little loud, we sat near the front close to the bar so it might be a little more quiet further into the restaurant, but we didn't mind since we were with a small group. It was quite expensive for a group of four, but I knew that going into it so it wasn't so bad, not ot mention we had drinks which add up quickly. I don't think we would dine there regularly because of the cost, but it was a great place for a special occasion and my husband was very happy with my choice in restaurant. It was a great restaurant although I WOULD NOT recommend it as somewhere to take the kiddos (which thank goodness we didn't), but great for a night away, Pros: food, atmosphere Cons: cost more
