A fantastic Sunday morning activity 5/28/2010

Eastern Market is one of my favorite ways to spend a Saturday or Sunday morning. First off, just browsing all of the shopping stands is a good time; you don't even have to buy anything. Second, if you like unique handmade jewelry and accessories, or have an appreciation for second-hand decor or local photography, then this is an excellent destination. The indoor part of the market has a plethora of fresh veggies, pastries, meat, and fish to choose from that are exclusive to Eastern Market. For example, the seafood stand sells soft-shell crabs, octopus, and even blowfish. At the pastry stand, you can't go wrong with an apple turnover or carrot cake cupcake, all fresh and fantastic. Pros: Great shopping, high-quality meats and seafood Cons: Can get crowded, not much parking more

DC's outdoor shopping experience 4/29/2010

Colorful food, colorful people, community atmosphere: D.C. just wouldn't be D.C. without Eastern Market. It is unpretentious and unapologetic and one of the best people-watching places in town on a Saturday morning. Love the ""blues,"" of course, at Market Lunch (if I arrive early enough to miss the crazy lines) but I also love the crepe man who makes some of the best Parisian savory crepes on the planet (I mean, what's not to love about Gruyere, tomatoes, fresh basil wrapped in sublime deliciousness). Pros: Everything Cons: Parking (so dont drive) more
